BULLY - BETA UI (Analysis)

It's interesting how a lot of rare content has been resting in obscure artists sites for a decade without people knowing about their existence (Jared Fry, Andrew Woods, etc). I think Tyler Wilson (and to an extent Sota Yuyama, not really an artist) is the only guy who was aknowledge pretty early in Bully's lifespan. It's weird seeing how every UI had a kinda complex yet unique design just to be replaced by a generic one in the final version. It just looks like a generic gta menu tbh. About the Locker UI: I recall seeing the red hair girl in the rich clothing store wall as a wallpaper (or someone similar). The weapon at 7:00 seems to be a rocket crossbow. You were originally going to use a wrench to fight the bullies in defend bucky. The wrench is still in the game but only as a workshop class prop, doesn't really work on freeroam. About the 2 different combos, it's ironic because i found some stuff about that like 2 days ago, and this video just confirmed my theory. Jimmy was originally meant to learn more fighting moves from the hobbo but some were partially scrapped because the complete overhaul of the controls. Along with 2 different combos (a 3 hit (X) and a 5 hit (square) combo), he would also learn variations of some moves, semi charged and fully charged. They weren't completely removed, just disabled. I found a pretty shitty method to swap anims and some are still kinda functional.

@@TheBklah there's way too much evidence for it NOT to happen. With the yan2295 prediction, the casting calls, it all seems clear. I feel they're going to milk gta and red dead online for a few years, at least. What are they going to make in the meantime, max Payne 4, or manhunt 3? No chance. Bully has been begging for a sequel and with the rest of the Easter eggs in Rockstars recent games, it seems like Bully II will be Rockstars next game.

I would assume "Special" was meant to be a fighting mechanic in a VERY early stage of development. You'd probably build up some type of meter and unleash your special move on whoever you were locked onto during combat.

Um, you are wrong. The main reason why so many stuff were cut and/or not used was NEVER due to the ps2 hardware limitations. The main reason was because bully had to be rushed and/or some ideas were just not liked by the dev team. The best example for the game being rushed is the school interior and exterior. Hell, even the school's exterior was much different then vanilla.

Depth Jacks yeah they could’ve added a lot more detail to the interior of the academy, pretty sure there was a third floor originally, they could’ve finished the third floor and made it fit into the game somehow.

_knowing i watched this when it came out, ive come back_ i feel as if that lockers screen would be an alternative inventory storage maybe you could run out of inventory space and then you head to your locker to store specific items of your selections so you could get different weapons or items and store in your inventory then when your inventory gets full again, you'd go to the locker and have to swap items

I think special might stand for special attack. after you land a certain amount of attacks it charges up a special attack that does more damage than a normal attack

I'm going to go ahead and guess that the "Music Player" controls pretty much confirm a feature that was rumored in early versions of bully consisting of the ability to insert and play your own downloaded music in-game. The deleted shopkeeper, Nate, hinting this by having lines referencing Jimmy buying music from his store.

Speaking of Manhunt, it does use separate buttons for light and heavy attacks. It seems that Rockstar Vancouver wanted to implement this system in Bully but later scrapped this idea.

The controls for heavy attacks and light attacks are the same ones used in The Warriors,this makes me wonder if Bully had the same combo system as in the game mentioned before also speaking about bully borrowing The Warriors features,Johnny's beta move is probably borrowed from a rage variation of a power move

I honestly think the early Blue/Yellow designs are the best. I just... I dunno, I think they look so much cooler in my opinion, especially the old title menu at 11:16. I honestly think that was kept in the final version of the game. :)

I'm thinking the lockers, while very farfetched, could've been a place where Jimmy could store things. Every student on campus seems to have their own locker, except Jimmy. Even if this isn't true (it probly isn't anyway), that would be a cool feature to add. 13:14 I think Jimmys riding in Bullworth town, in that grass area in front of city hall.

Can you imagine what bully would look like if it was originally released on the PS3 and have some of the original beta content in it ...it would probably be awesome because some of the great beta features that were removed from the game were removed because of the PS2's limitations like the Nerd Battle Wagon it was removed because PS2 had limitations but if it was released on the PS3 the battle wagon could've been in the final version and the funny thing is that Bully was released an exact month before the PS3.

I think that "Special" thing was used maybe for when Jimmy humiliates his enemies. It is kinda a special move that you don't do usually. Maybe Rockstar decided to do it for a button while in the social menu after you beat your opponents up.

I think (and this is pure speculation) that the picture of the lockers with the rockstar logo on one of them might have been a screenshot of an early concept for the intro cinematic of the game showing the logo's of the exact rockstar team(s) that worked on the game. Like I said I have zero fucking evidence for this and thus it is pure speculation, but the amount of detail in the shadows and light seems too high rest to not be pre-rendered, so I kinda assume it is and thus is most likely a cut scene of some form, considering the logo it being an intro cinematic makes the most sense to me.
