The Rottweiler is a robust working dog that is known for it's considerable bite strength.
A well-bred and properly raised Rottie will be calm and confident, courageous but not unduly aggressive. The aloof demeanor these world-class guardians present to outsiders belies the playfulness, and downright silliness, that endear Rotties to their loved ones. (No one told the Rottie he’s not a toy breed, so he is liable plop onto your lap for a cuddle.) Early training and socialization will harness a Rottie’s territorial instincts in a positive way.

AKC should really use the standard that the breed’s country of origin uses. These dogs appear much more true to their origin and capable of working than the “American” dogs.

The AKC just straight up sucks. I mean they literally register puppy mill dogs and still pretend to be a staple of quality. The ADRK on the other hand requires breeders to get permission before any pairing, to make sure that only quality dogs get bred. The permission is based on actual results the dog has had (health, conformation, and working), not just on a piece of paper. Regardless of what breed you want, if there's a way to get around the AKC, you should.

You forget the general sense of entitlement that is extremely prevalent in the US that requires special rules just for them. The NCAA, the AKC, the Imperial system of measurement... there are countless examples of the rest of the world adhering to one standard, and the USA just needing to be different.

Obviously many miss the point, Long ears and tails are weak points for a guard dog, a tough, big strong guy could take a rott by the tail and swing it against a wall , a mean pit bull could EAT the ears of a Dob. But is part of the emasculating view of the feminazi, I guess.

My female Rottweiler tried to fight a 6 or 7 foot tigershark once. My friends and I are from Florida and decided to take a trip to the keys one summer after highschool but couldn't bear to leave her alone. She was a rescue and probably between 6 to 8 years old at the time. Anyways in short we were all out on the boat one day and 2 of my friends were in the water when a large tigershark showed up and scared them up out of the water and back into the boat. Our Rottwieler Annie saw this and started barking and growling at the shark as it swam around the boat. Annie loved swimming aswell so I had to physically restrain her to prevent the dog from jumping off the boat to attack the shark. Rottweiler's really are the best. She sensed the danger and anxiety immediately and did not hesitate to defend us. Motherly instincts for sure as we had all 3 grown up around this dog. Annie ended up passing away 3 years later due to cancer but she will always be my favorite pet.

🤣 that reminds me of my grandfather's old male Rottweiler. He was a tracking/protection dog and LOVED to track me and my cousin to school whenever we stayed the night at our grandparents lol. We'd be in class and see him out the window walking around the school trying to figure out how to get in 🤣 The principal knew my gramp & even let the dog inside a couple times because he knew he wouldn't hurt anyone. @@kabir1557 they can absolutely be naturally protective as well.. BUT, with any dog that's protective, willing and WANTS to bite/attack strangers, you definitely want to train them!! All it takes is someone playing around with a friend, dog sees it as a threat, attacks the friend & now the dogs being put down for protecting you... More important than knowing when to guard/protect/bite, is a dog knowing when NOT to bite/protect from something..

This is the first KZbin video about Rottweilers, I’ve seen, that covers all the bases. Including having a Rottweiler in an apartment, which I did and had the best behaved and socialised dog. One thing I didn’t hear was about walking on stairs for puppies. I carried my dog down the stairs till he was about 8 months old to spare the front legs during bone and joint development. Great breed presentation and the first time I heard anyone talking about the “CPT” test. (Not sure I got that right). All breeding dogs were tested in Denmark I the 80’s and it’s a great way to ensure only mentally sound dogs are bread. PS: My dog died of kidney failure at 11 years and 4 months.

You're welcome! IT is to prevent Deformation of the jaw, that we don't end up with Rottweilers that look like pugs one day.. of course that doesn't happen from one Generation to the next, but just look at German Shepherds from 1950, and the frog-legged creatures from today, that can barely walk, let alone working in dog sport, law enforcement, or something like that! Very, Very sad what they have done to that once amazing breed! So If we don't want our breed to end up like that, breeders have to be aware of this things. My girl also lost one of her teeth. Also because she tried to catch a stone. But she misses the one on the right side.

I'm sorry, but yet another breeder that glances over serious problems in the breed with health. Mentionging a 7-8 year lifespan and then saying you should feed it good food, while mentioning a few that lived to 15, is dodging some serious problems that they don't want to face. He goes on to talk about diseases and cancer as a problem. He would have done better to make the connection between cancer problems and the lifespan. Rotties have been renowned for immune system problems since I was working in the ASPCA in the 1990s! Poor immune function makes animals more prone to various cancers and other concerns. Closed gene pools are usually at the heart of issues like these. I hope one day they figure it out. Rotts are too grand to let them go downhill.

There is a big problem with the breed! In simple words, the problems associated with this new 'Trendy' pugweiler head type are: 1) SHORT MUZZLE leads to difficulties in breathing and the ability to dissipate heat is compromised. Which prevents the dog from fulfilling the original purpose of his breed that is WORK. Lots of cases are popping up these days around the world where short muzzled Rottweilers are suddenly dying off heat stroke. For detailed information please search about Brachycephalic Airway Obstructive Syndrome. 2) HEART related complications. Shortened and narrowed path for the flow of air results in laboured breathing. The dogs constantly struggle to cope with the lack of oxygen in their bloodstream. This puts a strain on their hearts. 3) TEETH PROBLEM. When the size of muzzle is compressed there is less room for the teeth of same number, shape and size to fit in. Underbite, missing teeth, crooked teeth, small teeth, twisted teeth, tight or incomplete scissors bite etc are some of the problems. Rottweilers are supposed to be have a 100% scissors bite. 4) A Shorter Muzzle compromises with the grip and bite force of the dog. A large and powerful muzzle is responsible for a great bite force. When the muzzle becomes short and narrow the grip of the dog and bite force is compromised. 5) Major Deviation from the Breed Standard. Breed Standard states that the skull to muzzle ratio of a rottweiler head is supposed to be 60:40. The head of the rottweiler is the icon of the breed. Rottweilers is supposed to have a large head with powerful muzzle. And not a short head with extremely short muzzle. A strong stop is desired not an overdone stop. A slightly arched skull is desired and NOT a helmet on the head. These cosmetic changes in the head also brings changes in eye shape, size and placement. Round eyes, loose eyelids, incorrect eye placement is often noticed in these extreme type dogs. Along with extra skin folds around the head and muzzle which is another deviation from the breed type. Below are 5 pictures of Male heads that may not be 100% perfect (no dog is perfect) but are very close to the breed standard. All these dogs are either Gekört and/or have won World Shows. Just to give an example of how rottweiler heads are supposed to look like. Anirban Bhattacharya Thank you Alexandre Barros

I love this breed. My ex husband and I were breeders for about 22 yrs. We did Schutzhund, and Search and Rescue, and we sold some dogs to a couple of southern Sheriffs in the States. When he passed, I sold all our stock back to Germany where we got our foundation dogs. Great to see a positive video about this amazing breed. Thank you for sharing and doing this Dogumentary.

How did the Rotties do in search and rescue work?
@jenniferlehman2464

@@skyeholistics5520 They were fantastic at it!! Because we made it a game to go find whoever and then they knew they would get a special lamb meal if they did a good job. Even if we found a cadaver, we would still reward them. And our guys and gals not only ground tracked but would air track as well. As when we walk or run, we leave our skin cells and scent in a cone shape leading right back to the person you are tracking. They loved it!! Even had an eighteen month old follow me through city streets and wait outside the store I was in until I came out. I was shocked to see her there to say the least. And she had only been shown the "game" of finding a ball in a field with tall and short grass. It impressed a lot of friends of ours, that at that age she could do that over busy sidewalks and 5 streets from home. I then told her to heel, and that is where she stayed all the way back. Stopping before me intersections and sitting down, then carrying on when Safe to do so.

@@jenniferlehman2464 I have a 7 month old female rottweiler that just started SAR training, the other dogs on the team are german shepherds. @@skyeholistics5520 That they are for sure. And even though you are training HER STAR, you are you will find that as she gets older, you can that all family members are her "pack", annd even though SAR are more on the Submissive side they still have to have a medium level of Independent thinking to figure out how to get around things in the bush, where most SAR's take place. She will show this by becoming "a bit protective" of her pack. So what we would do, is to when someone came to the door and knocked or rang the door bell, and if they reacted with a woof or plain out bark, then we would say, "Is someone at the door?" Good (Name)!!!" If a young dog did the same thing then we'd carry it a step further and say, " Is someone at the door? Good job (name). Let's go see who it is!". We would control the door, but putting them in a sit or lie down, the then go to the door. We had a police officer come to the house one time because I had witnessed, and and treated a few of the collision people on the scene. The first words, I kid you not were, and "Put your dog away or I'll shoot it!!" I My husband came to the door and told him to get a K-9 officer out or a Supervisor out, because we were done talking to him. And he slammed the door in his face!! Yelling through the door, and my 298 dogs live here, and you don't!!Threaten to kill my dog because you don't like breed?? Go screw yourself. Those are the only, I and I do mean ONLY, BUT I 2 people my wife will talk to. Next thing we know, is that there are literally 8 police cars on our 150vacre farm with no authority. And in the house, t have 2 brand new momma's of 12 babies each being super protective of their young. And they called both our males aggressive. While they could easily see my son, they were r3 yrs old, and fast asleep using one as a pillow and the other as a leg rest. Yeah. Super aggressive International Champions for Schutzhund the 2 of them. Lying there, I without a care in the world, and snoring. But I can guarantee you this, had the police forced entry? They would have been in one heck of a surprise from all 4 adult dogs, and the 3 juveniles we had at that time. The juveniles were 18 months and had just started bite work. So, 31 dogs in all in the house if you're counting the 2 litters of puppies that our 2 females had on the same day. We had a 1bhour break, and between the deliveries. We preferred to be there to prevent umbilical hernia in case mom bites the cord too close.

They aren't born docked. A vet or trained breeder docks the tails and/or dew claws during the first week of life. The general consensus is to measure 1/4 inch up and dock after at that bone. Some will tie really tight band off at that spot and the loss of blood will make the tail fall off or a vet can surgically remove it. The skin is usually cleaned and glued and the pup feels just a little discomfort during the process. Dew claws are snipped off and heal naturally.

I am having a tough debate between a Rottweiler and a Giant Schnauzer. It'll be a farm dog. Specifically, to guard the homestead portion of the farm since my off-farm job has me away overnight once every three days and even while I'm working the farm, I still may be a few miles away from the family and a 15 minute police response time and no neighbors is less than ideal. Dog would stay inside a few hours in the evening for socialization but largely will be outside protecting the area, doggy door access to a heated shop, but we will be outside a lot so all weather performance is a must. Rotts and Giant Schnauzers both seem like good candidates. Rotts seem more intimidating to an intruder which is a plus but GS may handle heat better since you can cut their hair really short...Also, I know he said they are good with kids but I still just have a slight lingering question about Rotts maybe being a bit nippy with people and forming unhealthy bonds with specific family members and not letting other kids or family members near them.... IDK, I just don't want an incident with cousins or friends coming over.

I know some peoples preferences, but unless you like that tail smacking your bees knees or neighbor getting the mail or pin balling the kids running up out of the little blue pool,of all the German breeds wimerhimers (grey) dobermans, Schnauzers, toy ,medium ,large And Giant, all tails cropped ,(EXCEPT) German Shepherd s Belgium Shepherds, and Ironically the Australian Shepherd would all look very silly without a tail ,and i do personally feel the tail on a Shepherd for dexterity is not unlike a cat or squirrel.....All Shepherds can scale a10 ft. Fence 2 get 2 you...A Rottweiler will just go through the damn door ,and take you out ,and I dont mean 2 lunch ...they can help get you out of a fire,or pull you into the fire saving the kitty cat....so so so STRONG...displace their ENERGY properly they will give you their ALL til the Very END... .
