BumbleBee Nest In My Garden

I think the bees are Bombus Impatiens, one of America's most common bumblebees, but I'm British and our bumblebees look completely different.

Thank you for sharing your Bumble bee story! You're gracious to the bees to leave them there. You can place some wood or plywood on the planter to keep the rain off their nest. But do that at dusk or early morning before they are active. I have my first Bumble bee nest by my window well. A mole dug out a hole and now the Bumble are living in it. Good fortune.

They were active there for about another month, then moved on apparently. I have put a plant there but another animal, probably a chipmunk, has made a hole there. It's an active property, it seems.

You're lucky. Love them I have lots and as a result I have the best producing vegetable garden.

nice tradescantia - I used to have some, miss it. I found a bumblebee nest in the yard today where some chipmunks used to live - I wondered where they lived, they often are in my garden starting about mid morning when I am about done picking veggies and watering etc. They never bother me, I don't bother them. I try not to get them wet, that would be rude♥

Kim's Gardens Yes I found a few in my backyard as well because I allowed dandelions and Purple Dead Nettles to grow naturally and they pollinate them. Turns out I have a nest in my backyard also lol. I plan to leave them alone too and like you said, they really don't bother unless one swats them or they feel threatened 🐝🐝🐝

They very often use pre- owned vole and mouse burrows. In Europe and Britain, the Tree Bumblebee (B. Hypnorum) always nests above ground.

Your thumbnail shows a buff tailed bumblebee- Bombus Terrestris- Britain's most common species. This is not found in America, but in Chile and Argentina, Continental white tailed Terrestrisses were introduced many years ago for pollination. Their bee germs have killed off the impressive Patagonian Bumblebee, B. Dahlbomii, which could be extinct, or if not, it's very scarce. The world's biggest bumblebee species. When captive bred bumblebees are used in polytunnels in America for pollination, these will be B. Impatiens.
