Great to have an original spec crank after a lifetime of hard work.

I was a mechanic on the local council for 12 years, I used to strip & repair these same engines, maybe 2 a year, they never needed much really, but local councils being what they are, these engines got the full treatment, pistons, liners, crank grind, then maybe they'd be sold a few months later for new tractors, the same make and size. All good memories. All these tractors had a dedicated driver who stayed with his tractor, this driver helped (or hindered) with the strip & rebuild 🙁❓

Hi lance, maybe you are right and the crankshaft and bearings had been replaced and looking at the spec probably not that long ago. If it was running a pump for hours on end with low oil pressure i think it would of been a bit more worn. As you say a good look at the oil pump is in order, there again it might be that the wrong oil was in there and not up to spec for higher temps. Which ever way you'll save a few bob not having to regrind the crankshaft. cheers, Derek

G Day Derek, Yes I was expecting more wear but a quick polish and it will be good to use for sure. New oil pump regardless Im thinking.

A very well narrated informative show 😂 Mr Lance If the Crank shaft mains has humps & you grind it, are you going to maintain the same bearing ?

my main bearings have a label of 050, and 31131172, and a letter "d" surrounded by a square. I'm not sure if anyone had ground the crank or not. does the 050 mean they are oversize or is that another name for standard maybe? i cant seem to find 050 main bearings..looks like the rod bearings say 050 as well
@BundyBearsShed Жыл бұрын
usually that is max oversize.

G Day Wayneo, No I think it is part of the crank balancing no matter what the use.

If you gring the crank you will need undersize bearings which are readliy available in 0.010" increments up to 0.040" in some cases.
