I watched this video series probably 10 times while rebuilding an injection pump off my inherited MF 3165 that wouldn't get fuel to the injectors. Thank you so much for doing this and going into so much detail! You saved me a ton of money and got my tractor running again.

What a talented mechanic ( technician) you are Lance. I completely dismantled the CAV. DPA Injection pump on my old MF 30 (French horror horror) Tractor and rebuilt it with a kit from Queensland Tractor Spares. I followed the instructions from your MF video No. 14 & 15. I found it so easy to do although I did at times have a few nervous moments. In particular when the governor weighs fell out of the basket. I did think “What a bastard.” But I got them back, bleed the system and away it went. I must admit I was relieved when fired up. Thanks to your instruction I saved myself a lot of money.

It's been 50 years since I have taken an injector pump apart. Loaned a friend my book on doing this and never got it back. My 285 MF started getting fuel into the sump. Changed the lift pump and still leaking. Dealer was to busy to do it so I have taken it off. Going to a shop for repair. I know it will cost but know it will be checked out. Thumbs up Lance

Lance, 5 years ago I followed you resealing another CAV and was able to get my JD 5300 back in service. My issue was the pump head had seized and sheared off the rotor. It took me a while to find a new pump head, but was then able to get it back together and working ..It runs great and I wanted to send my thanks! Regards from Pennsylvania!

Hi Lance - I have a fascinating "feature" with my 35x that has been there for 24 years (so not a major issue!) She starts and runs perfectly. However, just occasionally, if I have been running her at lowish revs (below 800 rpm) for a while she will hesitate in picking up when the throttle is opened (even running off load). She sits at about 800 rpm, sometimes for 10 seconds or so - no smoke and no sign of labouring. Its as if I have only slightly opened the throttle rather than opening it fully. After the hesitation she runs up to full rpm just fine and can then, usually, be throttled back and opened up just fine. She will run all day at 1500 rpm or over without missing a beat. I have over time serviced the lift pump, cleaned the tank and replaced the tank strainer, renewed both fuel filters and replaced the vanes in the high pressure pump (and stoned the slight marks out of the vane pump end-plate) and made sure the valve on the input to the pump fell under its own weight as you showed. None of this has made the slightest difference. Bleeding the system also seems to make no difference. Given that she works fine most of the time I'm slightly reluctant to pull the pump apart completely as I can obviously make things worse! Any thought would be welcome. Thanks.
@BundyBearsShed4 ай бұрын
G Day Colin, I think you may have a sticky metering valve, when the governor opens up it sticks for a little bit. You can pull the top ott and remove it without a full stripdown of the pump and polish it up and see how you go.

@@BundyBearsShed Many thanks indeed for the reply. I'm gradually overcoming my fear of delving into the pump - a fear that comes from having spent a week in the fuel injection repair shop at Ministry of Works in Nairobi when I was about 10 years old (a very long time ago now!) This left me with the impression that pumps and injectors could only be worked on by gods in immaculate white coats working at spotless stainless benches in a room that would shame an operating theatre and with a huge green Hartridge pump tester at its centre around which they would periodically gather and nod sagely as it clattered away.

Thanks for the great videos you put out there for us to help us on our projects. I have a question for you Sir. On a 1988 545 3 cylinder tractor loader, is it necessary to set engine at # 1 cyl. TDC before removal of the injection pump? I think not but, since you are a genius on this subject I thought I consulted with you. Thank You Sir Best Regards

I have a 1962 Ferguson 35 with a 4-cylinder diesel engine. It stalled at a stop sign. The engine cut out and won’t restart. I removed the injectors, and nothing is coming out of them. Then, I took off the hoses leading to the injectors. There, I have diesel coming through, but with very low pressure. The pressure isn’t high enough to open the injectors. Which part of the pump could be faulty? Please help me. Thank you."
@BundyBearsShedАй бұрын
It could be rubbish in the tank blocking the tap, fuel lift pump not working correctly or even the little screen under the inlet pipe on the injection pump. all worth a look.
@andreaferrecchia5237Ай бұрын
@@BundyBearsShed thank's! I checked the fuel system from the tank to the injection pump inlet, and it flows freely. After the injection pump, we don't know what’s happening. I will do the check you mentioned with the small filter under the inlet pipe on the injection pump.

Excellent tutorial. I watched your other video from 9 years ago ...and posted this question there. But since this a newer video I am going to post here as well. I have a Dresser Dozer with a no start/no fuel to the injectors situation with the Lucas CAV. pump. It does not leak at all, so I am feeling that pulling and rebuilding the pump may not be necessary. I have pulled the governor lid and checked it (which I put a new gasket etc. on a couple of years ago). All seems well there, so my thinking is something could be wrong in the whole inlet assembly. My question is ...what is your opinion of taking the approach of pulling that off and examining everything there as opposed to pulling the whole pump? From your video I get the impression that a no start/no fuel pumping issue is primarily at that inlet assembly or the governor. I have verified that fuel is getting to the pump from fuel the tank through the fuel filters. Thank you in advance.

I’m getting a lot of diesel in my oil after my tractor sets (Ford 3600) Is that from the main seal at the 35:00 point in this video? If so can that be replaced without tearing into the other parts of the pump? I guess I can just buy that seal instead of the whole rebuild kit?
@BundyBearsShed3 ай бұрын
Yes it can be replaced on its own

Lance, We have a Massey 1105 with the turbo 354. The pump has a pulsation damper on the front of it which is letting fuel out of the equalisation hole in the front of the damper and making a big mess. From my internet research it appears there are two different ones depending on the pump serial number. I will get that number later. Does QLD Tractor spares have these dampers and is there anything I should know about replacing it? Thanking you, Jeff.
