Hello folks, a commenter noted that in the video I said that rhubarb and burdock “are both edible and you can verify which is which by doing a taste test of the stems.” To clarify, ONLY the stems of rhubarb are edible, and not the leaves. The leaves of rhubarb should never be eaten as they can be toxic in large enough amounts, so be careful that you have properly ID’d and researched any plant before consuming. Thanks and enjoy the video!

I request you to give a video about the benefits of arugula
@theacadiangarden7 ай бұрын
I don’t have any arugula growing on my property or know of any wild arugula near me so I don’t have much experience with it. (I had some a previous year but we replaced the bed with grapes). But if I grow it again I’ll definitely consider it! Thank you for the request.

If there are not any plants that look similar then i have a lot around here, lol i always called it poison rhubarb and avoided it, thanks another plant i'll look more into😊💕🌱🌱

Mullein and lesser burdock are the most common look-alikes that come to mind in Northern climates. Both are safe to consume as well. The hooked burrs are the best indication. 🙂

As kids we used to have dandylion and burdock - the drink was popular and you got some money back on the bottle (UK) the Velcro-plant - we also cooked a trout in the leaves - lovely

Okay, i traced you back to your video and that dish you made I'm curious about. Looked delicious!

It was fantastic. As much as I love trying new wild foods I’m always a little surprised when it actually comes out tasting well. Maybe it’s the conditioning I received growing up… “if it’s not in the grocery store it’s gross and you can’t eat it.” I’m still working on the proportions but it’s burdock and carrot julian sliced and soaked in cold water until ready to cook. I simmered using olive oil, a little brown sugar, soy sauce, and a touch of apple cider to get that sweet and sour taste. On a bed of wild rice and buckwheat with some sesame sprinkled on top. Hope this helps!

I thought rhubarb leaves are toxic
@theacadiangarden6 ай бұрын
Yes you should avoid the leaves which are toxic in large amounts. I am referring to comparing the taste of the stems, which are both edible. Great point to mention, thank you.

Thank you 😊. I am open to ideas. I can’t always say when I’ll make a video, (nature usually decides for me), but I take requests into consideration.
