What I really appreciate with this young lady besides her unquestionable talent is that she doesn’t do any theatrics. No twirling, no exaggerated movements, etc. Just locking herself to the music. That’s Yoyoka ‘Pocket’ Soma to you. Btw, if you’re impressed with her rolls, you should check out the other Deep Purple cover ‘Speed King’. I actually prefer that with this. Exquisite fills and rolls. Anyway, thank you for the reaction. You finally got to 1 of the 3 I’ve suggested before (Smoky, Steam and ✔️Burn). ✌🏼👍🏼🤘🏼

@iFoneVids I agree! In all the YOYOKA videos I have watched (pretty sure almost all) there was only one occasion I recall where a clumsy stick twirl of maybe 2 loops was attempted. When in a pause her entire body is keeping the beat.

@@Rob-Yule she’s a very mature and professional musician. She understands music and respect it. She’s a great example of having fun while making music without making a fool of yourself and keeping in time. It also shows that she respect and shows consideration to her fellow musicians. She knows if the timing is off, it can throw off the whole song. Kudos to her for that. Don’t get me wrong, I love it when she was being goofy, she’s just a kid after all. But she’s all business when she works. I totally appreciate her for that.

On the spectrum of awesome young drummers, Yoyoka is solidly in the middle in her kind of greatness. Senri is more technically sound, creating jazz fusions, but doesn't have Yoyoka's charisma or rock'n'roll energy. On the other side is Nandi. Not as good either, and seems to prefer showmanship to anything else. I've always thought of Yoyoka's cover here as telling Nandi "yeah, just keep twirling those sticks."

@@calnative4904 No, I've seen her covers of Onyx, including the "duel" with Senri. Senri is the better fusion drummer, as she uses the entire kit a lot. They're both easily in the top 500 of all time. Yoyoka is the better rock drummer. It's a little like comparing Gene Kopek and John Bonham.

Thank you for your good comments. There are many good drummers on KZbin but absolutely nothing that matches Yoyoka no matter how old they are. Mr Ian Paice was very moved to see this cover.

Those ghost notes she does at @7:33 in your video (5:21 of the original) give me goosebumps every time. I hope she does make it to the US to become the superstar she deserves to be, and I'm happy so many others like her, since my dumb friends don't get how amazing she is. It's like their ears are broken LUL. A month ago, she and some other kids in the US covered Led Zeppelin - The Ocean. You may wanna check that out ;)

Yoyoka had her application for an American Visa approved and should have it in her possession. Next are the visas for her mother, father and younger brother. It should be a breeze from here. They don't like to split up families so they are certain to get approval as well. Look for a video soon of the Soma family at the airport, on their way to LA!

I agree, Yoyoka is an excellent drummer. I’m looking forward to her evolution as she learns more and gets even better AND is performing live and in studio. She’s on her way to the US and I hope her time there is a great experience. Show them what you can do Yoyoka. By the way, check out her 12 Birthday Jam, she plays this song and several others. It’s the best.

If you have history with Yoyoka, when she did this cover, it kinds of came out of left field. People had been questioning her ability to play drums at a fast clip and she did this. Several things happened at the same time when her cover came out. She became the youngest drummer, ever, to get on the 500 drummer list. Ian Paice did a reaction of her. Then, he came up with this stupid idea of doing a 'project' with Sina and Yoyoka. He can do what he wants, but what I don't understand is when he does his reaction of Sina, he mentions on the front end of his reaction that she is not using the kick. She is missing notes and going in and out of the pocket, more out than in. Then Yoyoka was being compared to other drummers as well. Finally, that seems to have stopped. If you are going to compare one drummer to another, it should be one with a similar skillset. Yoyoka is a lot closer in skills to Miki Tsunoda or Senri Kawaguchi than some of the other drummers she has been compaerd with. Since Yoyoka's birthday, she has really ratcheted up her drum playing. Like our man says here, she can play with anyone. The other thing Yoyoka does that some of the drummers she gets compared to is to put out virtually ear perfect covers or ear perfect live performances.

If you follow her, you know about six or so months ago, she said she wanted to come to live in the US. Now, she is here. Lots of money to mzke her dream come true, but she got a gig with Final Fantasy which helped pave the way. Seems like she is capable of doing anything she wants to do. Very skilled professional musician.
