How should I reconcile the fact that I would not be a follower of Jesus Christ if not for my early encounters with him through my use of psychedelics, and the fact that all things were made by him, for him, and through him, including psychedelic molecules like the DMT endogenous in the human organism that was made in the image of God,,, How do I reconcile that with the demonization of his creation (psychedelics in this regard) by the Church? I very much enjoyed this episode BTW. Thank you and God bless you.

I saw a video of a guy who had gone there to minister, and afterward, he was talking with new age philosophies. He seemed very confused from the demonic influence. I think it's hard to discern who is going to see a freak show out of curiosity, who just wants to ogle naked people in the name of ministry, and who is there with pure motives. Anyone who goes has to be strong in their faith, the Word, discernment, and prayer. And also realize they can fall prey to the deception if they aren't guarding their heart.

Great discernment. No one comes to the good news without confronting the bad news. Sin has to be part of a true Gospel presentation. Otherwise, what are we being saved from? What do they need Jesus for?
@audreyrv325311 ай бұрын
Its not about being relaxed about sin. Its understanding that we live in the world and the world is condemned already. Jesus told us to go out, not sit in church pews waiting for the lost to come to us. They rarely will as they see the gospel as foolishness. Jesus never siloed himself into just hanging out with Christians. He sat with sinners, he talked to prostitutes, he went into their synagogues reasoning with them as he preached a message of salvation. He was gentle, kind and had grace and compassion while sharing the good news without condoning sin. A 2 hour podcast can never capture the entirety of someones calling or the environment we are in at that time. A 2 hour podcast can never capture all the stories of the conversations we've had, the connections made, the timing, the ah ha moments nor the sorrow we walk away with over situations we see. Not everyone is called to minister the same. We get many requests to join us, but few do as we have a rigorous screening process for the very reason of the issue of sin, temptation, intentions and mindset. If we didn't believe in the issue of sin and the salvation message, then we would never be motivated to go out and do this as a ministry. There would be no point. Mark 2:17 "When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

I have to say, I really appreciate their hearts all three of them, I’m sure that the Lord has used them, but where I felt things went off a was with the woman’s (forgot her name, sorry) insistence that relationship evangelism is the only good way to evangelize, that boldly preaching the word in public is “Bible thumping”, which she consistently spoke of it in a negative light, and said basically that you should only evangelize if you’ve formed a relationship and the topic comes up. That’s not what scripture teaches. I feel like the host here really went too soft on her in that regard and that was unfortunate. I understand just letting them tell their story, which I enjoyed, but what I didn’t appreciate was her blatantly promoting her unbiblical view on evangelism, and that there was no counter to it. Love you guys, appreciate you, but I just felt like that needed to be said. 🙏❤
@melaniehart883211 ай бұрын
I too felt some discomfort (or a lot!) when she spoke at that time. Do we believe in God’s Word as a means of grace for the power of God by His Spirit to point people to Christ and convict and save and call people to repentance and faith or not!? We preach Christ and Christ crucified. We don’t need to immerse ourselves in satanism or witchcraft or Mormonism etc to share the Gospel with someone for the Holy Spirit to quicken their hearts and save them! To downplay scripture in Salvation is concerning to say the least.
@Courtney8511 ай бұрын
@@melaniehart8832 exactly 100% correct! To say relationship evangelism is the only way is putting the philosophies of men over God‘s word, which is the only thing that has the power to save. Jesus said go into all the world and share the gospel. He didn’t say oh but first you have to become their friend and you can’t share the gospel with them unless they bring it up first. SMH.
@ForcingChange11 ай бұрын
I would like to add some clarity (I’m Carl, the guy sitting next to Audrey in the video). First, I understand your sentiment, but you’re missing the context, and to be fair, it’s not fleshed out in the interview but implied by those of us going to Burning Man. That is, one of the types of criticisms we receive - and we receive a lot from arm-chair commentators and keyboard warriors - is that we need to “go set them straight,” to “hit them with the Gospel,” to “thump ‘em with God’s word.” In other words, unless we’re taking a hard-nosed, confrontational approach - to go in “Bible thumping,” and that has been the meaning - then we’re not doing it right, and we’ve watered down the Gospel. However, using a hard confrontational approach, especially in the context of this environment, is realistically less about the Gospel than about proving a point, often becoming a graceless exercise. Indeed, we’ve had people affiliated with our group who tried that via street-preaching in the surrounding communities during Burn week. It was a good lesson on what not to do. So that is the context re: “Bible thumping.” We’re not there to “beat people up,” but to share the Gospel seasoned with truth and grace. Keep in mind, there are three primary New Testament models when it comes to outreach, four if you count the last one I’ll list, although its abstract nature isn’t something we’re used to: 1) Confrontational - Jesus uses this with the religious rulers of the day, because they claim Scripture to be their authority, and hence they should know better. Jesus calls them out, and does so in a way that’s straight-to-the-point and sometimes very brash. But note, this approach is employed with a specific class of people; religious rulers. 2) Relational/personal - Jesus spending time with sinners, tax collectors, the cast-offs. The woman-at-the-well is a good example as Jesus breaks cultural barriers to spend time one-on-one, and they talk and engage. He exhibits grace and truth, including her sin, and does so in a way that’s salvific and not condemning (she’s condemned already). How did Jesus spend time with prostitutes and others of a similar standing? We know He met with them, He dined with them, He defended them (the stoning of the adulterer is a case in point); He intentionally went to be with them in a personal/relational way. Now, regarding the relational approach, which Audrey touched upon. It is this; we will go to them, we will listen to them (I can’t stress how important this is; hear them and be respectful, otherwise you’re just a resounding gong that no one wants to listen to), and we’ll empathize because we too face struggles and pains and failures. In this manner we will certainly “befriend” them, even though we will probably never see them again. In doing this, they will likewise listen as we hope to plant seeds and share the good news - including the problem of sin (Psalm 51 is a good place to go, as it is a powerful model of true repentance). So even though some have turned away when they discover we’re Christians, most don’t. And if friendships form alongside - and they have - that’s a blessing, and I thank God for this too. 3) Ambassador/intellectual approach - Paul demonstrated this in Lystra and Athens, where by being there he has purposely walked into a pagan context, and thus he first had to explain the character of God in contrast to their pagan worldview. In these scenarios, sin and salvation cannot be explained until there is an understanding of who the true God is - that He is not the same as your nature deities. Paul understood this, and knew the culture sufficiently that he used their own pagan setting as intellectual/spiritual leverage. Contrary to the second comment in this thread, you should know your audience, and must if you’re focusing on a particular group; If you’re ministering to Mormons, you would be wise to understand Mormonism and its mindset. This principle applies across the board when it comes to being an ambassador for Christ in other religious/cultural contexts, including Burning Man. If you’re going to be a missionary in a foreign spiritual setting, you and your team would be wise to “immerse ourselves” in understanding that culture and mind-frame. Indeed, if you're part of a mission organization, you'll be educated and trained with this in mind. And if you don’t take this task seriously before setting foot, you will after you’re there. 4) Parables - This is the fourth (actually the first) model of outreach, but it’s difficult for us to grasp in our instant Western culture where we expect everything now, including people’s salvation (another point of criticism we receive, where is the harvest?… while forgetting that seeds need to be planted first). Jesus’ public ministry was one of parables; the telling of stories and abstract narratives meant to communicate in such a manner that it would provoke deeper thought and analysis, that it created questions and opened conversations, that it concealed insofar that as the person earnestly wrestled with what was said, the truth would be revealed. Note that He is not presenting the Gospel in the way we expect within our evangelical culture - no Romans road, no sinner’s prayer; rather, He is planting truth seeds that will result in a harvest. He makes that very point in Mark 4. So our little group who goes to Burning Man, as a team of individuals, tries to employ the lessons and principles of models 2, 3 and 4. And we will refrain from model #1, for it has a purpose that’s not typically found at Burning Man - to shake up those who, piously claiming to stand on Scripture, are hypocritically religious.
