BURNING WRENCHES

Hi everyone! Haven't seen in a while cause at the moment this is the most difficult series as it will contain a bunch of wires and electronics, as well as a bunch of burned elements and smoke behind the scenes! In this series I'm going to solder the automatic devices for the doors and also going to deal with the tuning and electronics adjustments. Quadra V-Tech in real life.

Always place the rack (toothed rod) on top of the pinion (gear). That way the gravity will drop any dirt and debris from it. Also for the limit switches you could alternatively use induction sensors. You could double the sensors as well for reliability. It would be super cool to program in some acceleration and deceleration for the door, since you’re using a stepper 🙂

Something that might probably help with the fluidity of the door opening is if you were to make the speed of the door opening slowly ramp up to full speed and then slowly ramp down at the end. This would ensure the door doesn't shake as much especially when coming to a stop at the end when fully extended. Just a suggestion! Keep up the great work :D. Edit: There is many ways to add a ramp in acceleration and deceleration. But a very simple and easy way of doing it is. Instead of writing potentially a static value of lets say 255 to a PWM pin for the motor drivers. You can make the variable slowly increase and decrease based on time. Here is a simple example that I drafted: door_actuator_pin = 3; // PWM pin for the actuator. door_actuator_acc_val = 15; // Beginning value for acceleration of the door actuator. You might have to increase starting value to get over stall current if the motor has trouble opening the door. door_open_full_power_time = 1000; // This value is how long you want the door to be opening at full power. void loop() { // Check if the button press was initiated. Might want to see if debouncing could be an issue and or this check is being called multiple time. if(door_open_btn == TRUE) { open_door(); } } // Simple function example of the door opening slowly and then allow full power of stepper motor and then decelerating slowly after a set time. void open_door() { // Here the door will accelerate slowly. while(door_actuator_acc_val < 150) { analogWrite(door_actuator_pin, door_actuator_acc_val); delay(50); // Lower this value for faster incrementation of acceleration over time. door_actuator_acc_val = door_actuator_acc_val + 1; // Or Increase this value for faster acceleration per tick. } // Here would be full power once the door opened slowly for the beginning. door_actuator_acc_val = 255; analogWrite(door_actuator_pin, door_actuator_acc_val); delay(door_open_full_power_time); // Edit this value so that it gives the door time to slow down. // Here the door will decelerate slowly after the delay of letting the door open full power. while(door_actuator_acc_val > 0) { door_actuator_acc_val = door_actuator_acc_val - 1; // Decrement with a higher number if you want faster deceleration per tick. analogWrite(door_actuator_pin, door_actuator_acc_val); delay(50); // Or lower this value for faster deceleration over time. } door_actuator_acc_val = 0; // To make sure the value is 0. analogWrite(door_actuator_pin, door_actuator_acc_val); // Make sure to slow motor to a complete stop. }

very cool to see that you're still working on this project, looking forward to future updates. personally I would try to find a way to get the door to run faster, but is still cool to see that detail just like the car in the game.

Nice suggestion however I think it would be better to laminate the glass itself since plexiglass fogs when exposed to sunlight. The maintenance of that would grow annoying quite quickly.

@@MetroShock yeah that makes sense. Him using raw glass is really sketchy. Laminating it would be a great idea. Pretty much he should try to imitate an actual car windshield that breaks in little square chunks or stays in place when broken cause it's less dangerous.

This is fantastic attention to detail, i hate that there may have been things lost in translation, because this is top notch engineering. In 1959 ford made a starliner with a electric folding hardtop, with all manual relays and switches, the relay box was 3 feet wide across the whole back of the car. This reminds me alot of that setup, but with more microchips

The only downside is the safety bar. Further down where the legs are at the bar needs to come down when the door opens. Having more space to get in and out is important. The alternative is to make the roof slide inward or open up to make standing more possible for getting in and out, making the safety bar less of an obstruction.

unfortunately it'll drive like an rx8 with excessive sprung, and unsprung weight. But it'll look damn cool while doing it. Due to public road restrictions, this couldn't be a 1-off tube chassis like it needs to be. Now if CDPR could strike a deal with McClaren, Koenigsegg, or someone who knows how to really build a CF chassis and use one of their powerplants to make a V-Tech, that would be amazing.
