Hints for welding Stainless Steel first use an aluminum backer plate to clamp your edges together for your seam weld. Then push your weld to help keep the carbon build up to a minimum. A better option would have been to TIG weld the stainless. Also 304 or 409 stainless is the alloy typically used for exhaust.

so for welding anything thin i recommend using a scrap pc of flat material (sqaure, flat stock, channel etc.. but it cant be the same material if your welding stainless like this i would use a non-ferrous metal(aluminum, brass etc..) but if your welding aluminum do the opposite like steel) but clamp it so the seam is down the center of your scrap pc and that can help keep it from distorting as much maybe even at all if you clamp it good. itll also help from melting through. just a tip

@HanSolo__ Жыл бұрын
One of the things his shop lacks is heating. So that would improve things a lot. The next piece would be a frame of sorts for measuring but I guess he does not care much. I had a garage which could accommodate three Mini Morris cars. The first place was for the car body. The second was for the rolling cage with all of the Mini parts and Audi TT engine and drive aded (and a racing suspension, wheels, brakes etc.) The third place was for the second Mini but with the original body. The engine was "replaced" with the one out of the Yamaha FZR 1000, located in the place of the rear seats. A similar shop to his. No tools, no ventilation, no heating. We did not even have shelves for grinders, spanners and all the car parts. The cars we used daily were "living" outside.
