Could you guys maybe make a video about how a good pair of stays is supposed to sit? I am extremely high-waisted and i am puzzled on whether i should cut my tabs all the way to my waist, or make them shorter so my stays rest more on my hips.

They should be cut to rest on your hips, the weight of the garment and your breasts is supported at least partially by your hips, they would be quite uncomfortable if they were cut up to your waist

@@Blackbeltkitten2D thank you! all the advice i read said to cut the tabs just below the waist, i guess that works if you aren't terribly high waisted but for me it just didn't really work haha

@@pay1370 tabs below the artificial waist created by the stays which is about 1-2 in above your belly button. The tabs rest on your upper hip.

Hello! What is the purpose of the white laces wrapped through the center back eyelets before doing the spiral lacing? Thanks!
@BurnleyandTrowbridge
@BurnleyandTrowbridge 4 жыл бұрын
Megan Rogers these are actually strips of very thin leather. You find them often in a original stays. They are used to protect the edge of the eyelet that gets the most friction from wear and pulling.

@@BurnleyandTrowbridge Thanks, I was wondering about that myself - thought perhaps they were decorative!

What are you using to help get the lace through the eyelet holes? Thank you so much for all the work put into these videos!

A Stuart we are using a Bodkin. 18thc stay laces would have an attached metal aglet or were laced using a bodkin. In a pinch a Bobby pin will do the trick!

When I’m mocking up stays, I will use a piece of tape folded over the end and cut it into a triangle

Would it be okay to include a link to your lacing tutorials with dresses and corsets I sell? I'm going to make my own written instructions to include either way, but your video is very good and easy to follow.
