Burt Reynolds is the greatest. Smokey And The Bandit, Hooper, Deliverance, Gator, White Lightning, Boogie Nights, and on and on. I too love the Trans Am he made so famous, but I'm convinced that Burt Reynolds could have made a Ford Pinto cool.
@ComputerLearning07 жыл бұрын
Just watched *Hooper* the other day (for the 37th time) and it's funny how he used another Trans Am for the end scenes - this time a RED one. It's so sad knowing how his co-star, Jan Michael Vincent, ended up. He looks SO terrible now and doesn't really remember much. If we could only go back and fix the things we messed up in our lives . . .
@dannyr29764 жыл бұрын
Though Boogie nights was somewhat of a resurgence for his career, as well as award nominations, Burt Reynolds hated the film.

Time has gone by SOOO fast and when I see guys like Burt Reynolds, who will be 82 in two weeks, it really illustrates how fast life goes by. It seems like it was a mere decade ago Smokey & the Bandit premiered when it was actually *41 YEARS ago!* Most of the cast are now DECEASED and that blows my mind because it doesn't feel like it was THAT long ago. Before long Burt will be gone too and that's gonna be the saddest day of all. Long live Burt Reynolds :>\

I remember when I was 4 or 5 years old I went with my mother to northern Ireland to visit my dad where he was working. One night in the hotel we stayed at, I rang down to the reception desk at 3am and asked them if they could put a movie on the TV in our room. Which I heard my Dad say to someone they done. Smokie and the bandit was that movie I wanted for all the same reasons we all love it. A memory I'll never forget. RIP BURT, GERRY AND JACKIE. 🤠

@jerrythomas3767 жыл бұрын
I remember fondly the making of Smokey and the Bandit because most of it was made in my community in Clayton county Georgia. I was at the scene of the Trans Am jumping the Flint River. Remarkably the remains of the broken down bridge are still visible some 42 years later. Quite often I would see Jerry Reed's truck passing through my county. I could have taken opportunity to meet the cast but I never did, I had a girl friend who was my main focus in life at that time. Almost every location of filming was familiar to me. So many buildings in the movie have been lost to time but some locations have changed very little. I was sixteen years old then and now fifty seven years old. where have all the years gone? For reasons I'm unaware of Burt Reynolds has a love Georgia and Florida. He made The longest Yard at our infamous Georgia State prison in Reidsville.He was very kind and polite to the real inmates at the prison for which I admire him for.The lives of those prisoners are no less a tragedy than the lives of those they affected in my opinion. Burt Reynolds will soon pass into eternity but his films will be around long after he's gone. He never won a Academy award or even taken seriously by some as an actor. That's okay. Burt made me laugh a lot and was a part of my life I hold dear. GOD bless you Burt.

Jerry Thomas Yes, I was in N.C. mountains last July for summer vacation with my 2 young boys, both of them love the movie. We were driving back to south Florida and out of curiosity I looked up where the bridge jump scene was filmed to find it not far off 75 in Jonesboro off Flint River Road so I decided to cruise by,,,, sure enough, the old bridge pillings are still there along with some old bridge construction. We trecked through the woods there past the no trespassing signs to get up close to it. Hiking through those trees a Big Buck came running out of the trees towards us because we inadvertently cornered him in. Was quite a surprise. Anyway we walked all the way up to the bridge. The road leading to the bridge jump is all grown over with trees and shrubs but you can still barely make the path out visually. On the jump landing side there is a self storage facility about 80 or so feet. But the old bridge piling are still there, I was very pleasantly surprised. Took some photos and got tore up by mosquitos.

Jerry Thomas Also, regarding your comment about his connection to south Florida. When he was a kid, his father was chief of police here where I live in Riviera Beach, which is an area of west palm beach.
@jerrythomas3766 жыл бұрын
Mr. B Thank you for responding to my comment on Burt Reynolds. The side of the bridge the Trans Am landed had a large amount of sand placed there to lesson the force of impact. One morning my best friend and I went to the sight to see what was happening. A old man who was part of the production crew asked us if we would shovel the sand and spread it out. He offered us cigars as payment but we declined. Anyway thanks for your story, I appreciate it more than you could possibly know. May God's blessings be upon your sons and you and entire family.

In about 2002 I was working for a NASCAR driving school. We were hired to do a TV Commercial at Atlanta motor speedway for a DSL Internet Connection. The film crew doing the commercial were the film crew who shot the Smokey and the Bandit movie. The night before we did our shot we went to dinner with them. After eating we all invaded the bar and they got to telling stories and reminiscing about making the movie there in Griffin GA; this was at the LongHorn Steakhouse there on Hwy 41. Can't say I remember much as it was more movie talk and outside of my wheelhouse, but they obviously had so much fun making that movie there in the Area. I do remember we all stayed up way too long and drank way too much. I will also say, this crew was really good and they brought all their toys. They had a generator inside a 53 foot tractor trailer that so well insulated you could not hear it running outside the trailer. None of use knew the Actor they had brought to do the commercial, but you could tell he knew his craft. It was fun being a part of a commercial with a bunch of real professional; we were all fill-in's and in awe watching them do their craft. At my time at the driving school we did a total of 3 commercial shoots. The other two were for internal use by a Corporation - and we did some other things outside of that with the race cars. But that crew at Atlanta was by far an above the best I have ever seen.

Burt is a living legend. I know when you think of Burt Reynolds you think of Smokey And The Bandit or Deliverance or The Longest Yard. But those movies were over 40 years ago so of course he is going to age. I think he looks and remembers pretty good for an 80 year old man. He said he had a lot of fun making Smokey and The Bandit but I think he had the most fun working on The Cannonball Run :-) Just watch the outtakes from that film and you'll see what I mean :-)

"While filming City Heat, Reynolds was struck in the face with a metal chair and had temporomandibular joint dysfunction. He lost thirty pounds from not eating. The painkillers he was prescribed led to addiction, which took several years to break. Reynolds underwent back surgery in 2009 and a quintuple heart bypass in February 2010." That (and being 80) is what you've got, for those making the observations.
