The engine "retarder" is essentially an engine brake. It cuts fuel to the engine and uses the heavy gearing to slow the vehicle. Commercial diesel engines typically always have some sort of engine brake to use instead of the air drum brakes. Really helps to save brake shoes.

There’s a game very similar to this that’s a lot of fun. It’s called “Grass Simulator.” It has some very immersive gameplay
