@@GirlOutdoors Hi, KZbin gave me a suggest to watch you so I tuned in! Cool stuff! I did make a joke earlier on with the word "teepee" that hopefully you won't mind & will get a chuckle out of. I also mentioned an area that, if you find yourself in the Western MA. area,you should check out for maybe an overnighter. Not sure what's allowed for bushcraft building but you could probably get away with a debri shelter, a hammock or tent set up. This's out in Royalston MA. which's about 30 to 40 minutes from Orange MA. center. If any of the locale seems familiar, Stephen King filmed his Netflix series "Castle Rock"up there about 2 or so years ago. If you have a kayak or canoe, you can pull up on the 7 islands out there & explore. I gave some jokey names to some because of various things either seen, or that happened when I was dating a woman who got me into kayaking & we went there a bunch of times. One I put as a thing when you started cooking around 6:11 so, if you see this, BE CAREFUL @ the top of the tallest peaked island due to biting ants. Before you get there, if you follow RTE. 2 East, you'll go into Erving MA.& You have a State Forset up there with a beautiful lake called Laurel Lake. That's pay per camping but not expensive. Not sure what's going on with the place due to CV, but a cool place if they re open. Another one past Lake Tulley is Lake Dennison which has pay per camping. The lake o er there is sort of overgrown with Lily pads in one area towards the road going past it a bit, but the rest is pretty clear. There's other places I could suggest but I don't want to make this a novel. Again, cool stuff & I learn a lot from watching folks like you make things from natural resources.

Hi Becky , I am in the process of building a two person Bush craft shelter for my wife Brenda . My wife had mentioned watching your channel as well as Survival Lily's channel and how she would love to spend a night or two with me in the woods , now that our 7 sons are all in their 30s and no longer live at home we have time to enjoy some peace and quiet together. Lol. I will attempt to make a video series of the build and our time together at the shelter to share on KZbin, thank you for inspiring my wife to do this with me . Best regards from Lloyd way over here in Ontario Canada.

Raising them helped in keeping me in good shape and I'm still the same weight as I was as a teenager. Lol. I'll be 60 next summer . Once again best regards from Lloyd way across the pond .

That is a nice teepee you are building and I hope you are able to complete it and have it looking like the ones built by the Native Americans. I got to see some years ago while stationed at an airbase in North Dakota and they looked great. It is nice that you have your best buddy, Buster with you and he is watching your 6 for you to alert you of anyone approaching your area.

I believe the native Americans that built Teepees used buffalo hides sewn together for the covering. Please be sure to have enough ventilation and oxygen for the fire. But I’m sure you’ve already researched that :)

traditional native american (only used by certain tribes of the great plains and canadian prairies) teepees are 13 poles around 15 to 18 foot high 10 feet in diameter normally wrapped in buffalo hide yes modern tipis are canvas wrapped its very similar to the lavvu she has though the lavvu was used by the sami people of europe so was obviously made using different materials

This'll end up as the possibly silliest comment of all, but, with all the mentions if the word "Teepee", I find myself wondering if anyone @ 1st thought she meant TP as in toilet paper? Now, there's those of us ( quite a bunch) who realize what a Teepee is, however, with how the CV crisis started & all the MSM reports about folks buying large quantities of TP ( paper towels too) you never know? Somebody may've been slightly confused?? - lol

Around 6:11 when she started cooking I was thinking to myself that She can be thankful she didn't try this at the top of the tallest island over at Lake Tulley in Royalston MA. Me & an ex GF, while we were still dating, went & well, it turns out the top is one GINORMOuS biting ant mound from Hell! We were sort of having a lunch up there & within seconds these things came out & basically screwed us on food & started biting us too. They were black except for a white stripe in the middle & about as big as carpenter ants! ( For those familiar with the old movie "Panic at Lakewood Manor", it was like this except no toxic spill making the ants go crazy & bigger ants involved!) Needless to say, we didn't stay there that long. My gf who later on became an ex lost a pair of Ray Bans up there that we still jokingly believe are being used for solar tech by the ants living up there! This took place about 9 years or so ago. Other than the ants, the rest was fun.

Hello to the Lovely Wood Wacker :) The Native Americans would space the diameter and slope angle of the teepee depending upon the land and location. In a wet environment a steep slope meant that water would run inside. Most opted for a 35 to 40 degree wall angle. Your selection of the Dakota Fire pit is PERFECT! When you are digging it, I would suggest that you make a Feature post about it as many do not know what that particular fire lay is. A "Keyhole pit" is a good choice with mostly similar features.

I think you should get some canvas (or else a tarp) and stick under now before you cover it with brush etc. It's almost impossible to keep the water out else and come the winter you will need to make sure that water can't get in. I guess you already know about: carlisle195 YT channel? If not have a look he has build a LOT of shelters. Best of luck with it!

saw you in another video where you found a geocache. as you were talking about it you started to abbreviate to 'cache' (pr. 'cash') but were pronouncing it 'cachet' (pr. 'cash-ay'). a cache is a secret horde, cachet means prestige. ive seen ancient hut archaeology and the base of the hut is a pit maybe a metre deep dug into the ground with a roof over the top. i dont understand this. if it rains you wd think the bottom of the hut wd get flooded. in WW2 people made bomb shelters in their gardens - corrugated steel sheets made into an 'n' shape for the roof and a sunken floor. they used to flood. so when you are digging yor teepee floor lowere than the ground around it i am thinking this is not good. traditional tee pees in N. America were covered in buffalo skins. this is not a 'canvas like material' as you described it. it is animal hide. the people that did this were nomads, following the buffalo herds. their descendents prefer to be known as 'native peoples' or 'native americans' (tho they wre there long before anyone had heard of anything called america) and wd not like the word 'indian'. i very much doubt you can waterproof yr tee pee with just leaves and sticks. a dense layer of fir branches may work - like thatch but there doesnt seem to be much of that near where you are. maybe you cd thatch it with sth else. people use straw and river reeds. big job but you dont want to have rain coming in. of course you cd cheat and wrap it in tarps. you use a lighter to start fires so you already have cheating issues. dropping a large log on a few small burning sticks doesnt seem very practical. yr fire cd burn out that way. instead suggest you go from tinder - tiny sticks / bark - small sticks - medium sticks - logs. have them ready in piles by the place you are making the fire have seen some good female bushcrafting from survival lilly and wild woman bushcraft. unfortunately all 3 of you are meat eaters. it is completely possible to survive in a C21st western society with no animal products in yr diet and participating in the slaughter of animals - either in the wild or via the supermarket - is totally unnecessary. if you eat meat or other animal products you are cruel. simple.

Becky, please be very very careful about fires inside - check on Stephanie Morpeth's channel on just what the result can be of insufficiatly ventillated fires. The traditional pole and hide Native American tipi used by the nomadic tribes has to have the top vanes each side of the chimney hole adjusted so that the space at the top always faces away from the wind, to suck the smoke out, but you always need to make sure that air to feed the fire can get IN, and digging a small trench from right outside the tipi into the firepit and covering it with flat stones is probably the most authentic method af doing that without just allowing the inside to be draughty. Check every single time you use it that it isn't blocked (no fire means no draught, so they make attractive nesting sites when not in use), by taking a smoking stick from the fire and holding it by the outside of the air feed - the smoke should be sucked in. Stay safe.
@alfheib

To help you in your shelter build . Survival Lilly built a shelter where she built an air tunnel underground to provide fresh air to her fire pit .. It also aid in exhausting the smoke out of the shelter .. Also some of the other bush crafter I watch use a co2 detector in any enclosed shelter they are in with a fire in. .. Also do not forget your folding shovel as you keep building the shelter you may never know when it will come in handy ..

And finally, it was the shelter of several north American tribes. Truly a winner of a shelter.

The Tipi construction looks pretty interesting, it will be exciting to follow how it will turn out, may well see that there is a lot of work to be done. Just have to comment on the food, see it's just the kind of food that suits my taste, that steak made me fly up off the couch and I'm not quite landed yet. At time stamp 17.24 there is something passing by in the background, is it cars on a road or ??? So now my patience is again stressed for the wait for the next video episode. 😁

Its amazing how you grew from a cute girl, learning some skills from her dad and trying to start her own channel to a gorgeous woman that shows and teachers all of us good bushcraft skills with an ever improving presentation.😄😉.

Your followers should be aware to note that your use of the knife and hatchet/axe are perfect. You keep your thighs well away so that you cannot damage those arteries that will allow you to bleed to death within minutes. Folks should pay CLOSE attention to your posture while you are using those tools :)
