Discovering music in that era (as a teenager in the 90s) was like being born in a pot of gold. The list of awesome bands was very long. Every dollar I had went towards a new CD. Looking back on it I see how lucky I was. Awesome.

And then in 1999 Napster came to be and all this stuff exploded into the wide world. It was magical time, I would run Audiogalaxy overnight and listen to 10-12 songs uploaded by people into genre channels before school finding new cool bands non-stop. It was magical time. 90's were best decade.

Speaking of thats also when MTV was really transitioning out of (or at that point already had) music videos and into TRL and Reality TV thus it had less air play and remember shortly after this came out, brittney spears came out and we went from moody music into precanned pop

"The 90s were once in a Lifetime". They really were. So many great bands but not just that, brand new movements and genres being created. Truly creative artists breaking through and leaving a lasting legacy. IMO the 90's was the last great decade for music. There's been good music since then, but nothing of such cultural significance, or anything that's felt like such a leap forward or a defining sound(s) of a generation.

"The first time I felt this magical pull towards music was with this band called Bush, and they had this song called 'Swallowed,'" he said. "It was about a lot of things that I wasn't allowed to do - drugs and stuff that was on the other side of the tracks for me and where I grew up. I was listening to a lot of fakey, happy, life will get better, cheer up music and this just ripped the cover off that and really forced me to deal with my own life and what I wanted my life to look like. I remember early on feeling that pull towards music through that song." Isaac - The Fray

90's The period with the best balance between individual freedom and social sharing. Creativity from below, sensitivity and passion ... the taste of being young waiting to grow and dreaming of changing the world. Trust in others, music, festivals without bodyguards, occupied social centers, squats. Living in the streets with the right amount of internet.....i miss you

When I was in high school and this came out, I remember ragging on Bush hard. At the time, they seemed like phonies compared to the stalwarts of the Seattle sound. Like they were a prettier, safer version of Nirvana/Soundgarden/Pearl Jam, etc. I hated that I liked this song and video. In 2021, I give up. Even though it's a highly stylized version of the 90s, It's a good song and it takes me back to a time I miss and would give a lot to go back to. Fix mistakes. Live and love bigger and better. That's a beautiful, sad feeling. Thanks, Bush.

I was playing this song in my headphones a few days ago and I was walking minding my business when an older man asked if I was listening to bush mind you I’m only 20 and he told me I had a great taste in music and that I should play it out loud for the next block we were walking down together, you would think it would be awkward but we sang this song together and I will forever love that recent but special memory

One of the other songs in 1998/9 just before my eye was busted while I was trying to escape the Philippines before it was too late but it was too late. But for me it was “Swallowed, hollowed (out)” (not “Swallowed, followed”) “Just want to be myself…Got to get away from here…”
