Clay is our issue as well.... It's been 5 yrs since we've had running water 🤪 but the warmer months ( about 3-4 lol ) works really well but not gonna lie would really like running water esp since my heart attack last yr. 😝

A family bought 160 acres of bush up the road from the farm I was born to. There was a spring making about 150 GPH about 200 yards from the end of the road to the property. They built the cabin right over the spring so it was positioned right under the kitchen sink. A hand pump just like yours pumped water into the sink and drew water from about 18" below the kitchen floor. Dig a small reservoir, build a small box to keep out critters and it's just like a dream come true!

I haven't helped drive a well in YEARS but... I was taught never to twist the pipe or it will gum up the point down below and it won't work.... That's just the knowledge my dad handed down, not sure if it's right or not lol. Good video, keep it up!

That’s what i thought at first but without twisting the pipe no matter how tight you wrench them down they come loose from all the hammering. And then breaks at the threads. We have been struggling to drive a point down at camp. Typically we can push them in down home with the Kubota bucket. At camp, we put a driver bit on the end of a jackhammer. Rubber bandended the trigger of jackhammer running off the little Honda generator then held it with pressure from the Kubota bucket. We must have hit a big Boulder about 9' down...could not gain 1" after that with trying ALL day long. One of the locals told us that's why they drill them. I'm surprised I have any hair left on top of my head after that fiasco. 👨‍🦲

Been doing a bit of thinking about your water situation. And found something that might help you out if you and your family decide to stay out in your off grid location. Do a search for ground penetrating radar rentals near you. They are a couple hundred dollars a day (expensive yes.) but maybe someone will give you a discount for some advertising on your channel. From what it looks like it can show you what your ground looks like. (it says that clay like you have can decrease the effectiveness of the GPR, so that would show you places to avoid drilling at. But it also shows you solids (rocks), voids, and metal in the ground.

We ended up pulling it out and the screen was completely plugged and packed with clay I’m not sure it would be able to even draw water. We did hit water and it was about a foot over the point section but it wouldn’t draw it.

Wishing I had some trees and water 💦 LOL 😆. Everyone out here has to haul water from town or drill down 800' and hope you hit water. So far I'm loving the quiet time, no noisy or nosey neighbors. I was thinking about doing a KZbin channel and call it "How to live off grid in the desert on $1100 a month." Growing up I used to enjoy going to grandma and grandpa's farm house in the country. They were the first off grider's you know. They had no electricity, no propane, or running water. They grew and raised their own food. I miss those days. It's funny I could tell you a thousand stories about those days. Farm life or off grid life gives you a real love for what God created. Not to mention the lifetime of memories, experiences, and challenges you can't get in city life. Everyday is an adventure and challenges us to solve problems, and learn from mistakes. You and your family inspire me so keep up the great videos.

You get to know a lot of like minded people as well in the comments and hear some wonderful stories. That’s kind of a long KZbin name. It would be a better title to a video IMO. Maybe “Off Grid in the Texas Desert?” 😆 Back in the day my brother and I lived with our grandparents for times here and there and we had to use the outhouse most of the time. 😆 We also did a lot of gardening and cutting and hauling firewood.
