M&S Schmalberg is the last factory handcrafting custom fabric flowers in New York’s historic garment district. The family business has designed flowers for celebrities and designers since 1916. But competition from overseas flower manufacturers has made it difficult to stay afloat.

I've ordered from them before on Etsy! They took hours to sift through their flowers to find the smallest ones that I could use. So accommodating for even a small order. Amazing quality, I wear the flowers in my hair every day and they have held up wonderfully!

It's because 8 Billion people has resulted in expendable workers. You don't want to do it? Someone else will for half your salary. 80 People left my workplace last year. 40 From my department alone (We are only 11 now). Fire the managers? Pfft no they are "fantastic". @@ReclusiveEagle it’s not the 8 billion people, it’s the greed of a few. There’s a record number of vacant homes, 16 million in the US last time I checked. 40% of all food we produce is thrown out. So many people I know wish they could just do something they are proud of, that feels tangible. But learning trades like this would never support them financially enough to survive because of skyrocketing rent and food prices. If people can’t do this type of work and survive, this type of work will die. And they can’t survive because people artificially inflate food and shelter for greed. There were times where houses and land were given away for free to stimulate the economy in certain areas. I say we start fixing the problem by not letting vultures buy up 100’s of homes that could be used by working families.

Really? I would be pissed. It’s fine to move on, but don’t bring me into the relationship with your new wife. It’s gross. Edit: I guess a lot of people disagree with me, but some of that disagreement is getting a bit personal so…I’m doubling down 😘 More than any grand gestures or emotions, relationships hinge on mutual respect and good boundaries. I think this supposedly romantic gesture scores poorly in both those categories. Everyone makes bad decisions, so that doesn’t make them terrible people, just regular ones. That said, I think this is a bad thing that will come back to bite them-forget romantic! As for the people saying I shouldn’t judge them…take your own advice! Edit 2: “If the two people say it’s okay, then it’s fine and you should keep your nose out of it” is not true. It is an excuse. It’s a catch-22 flavor of irony that by advising me to mind my own business you are not taking your own advice. For best results, “like” comments of people who already insulted and disagreed with me.

I really enjoyed the story behind this family own business. It’s fascinating to me how they where able to out live there competition years down the line. This goes to show that the culture and story behind the brand is just as important as the product itself. Also, what I took away from this story of this business is to always believe that there is a way! His Grandfather was able to over come adversity by keeping up with trends and believing in his product and I’m pretty sure great customer service. I’m currently a new young business owner with a commercial cleaning company and I’m literally in the process of figuring out what I want the Culture and story of my business to be based around in a way that will speak to everyone in one way or another. Which is why I appreciate this video that has randomly been suggested to me😌

what a wonderful place to work - and in an 'old-fangled' way still. I'd love it - and I understand why the staff want to carry on working there. A wonderful family business. Glad to know you're in the world.

Thank you, to all the celebs, for helping keep this beautiful Flower Factory alive. May these fashions grant you special compensation and longevity to all involved. I love hearing heartwarming stories of American businesses fighting to keep their doors open. KZbin is running this ad for TEMU, where products are only pennies on the dollar to USA-made products, and that is how American industry died.

Fantastic story and wonderful to hear about a home grown business surviving and selling to the people in their own country. Too many of the things we buy these days are made elsewhere e.g. China. Personally I always try to buy goods made in my own country. They may be a little more costly but I prefer to support our businesses , & employees, as they all help to drive our economy forward.

Love this story! Love this business! Wish I lived closer or they had a location in Chicago. I’d totally sign up for a flower making course. My sister just did glass blowing and got a lovely paperweight from the experience. I’d just love to have a bouquet of flowers or a piece of flower jewelry that I made from a special material I brought in. Good luck to these guys. I hope beyond hope that we get some more manufacturing in this country.

I love seeing family traditions live and strive. My husband’s family was in the grocery business in the early 1920’s. Being immigrants from their mother land China.. Sadly my husband and his siblings shut the business down in 2016. He did keep his laundry mat till 2022 that he started when he was in college. I learned so much from his family… I wish that their kids would’ve kept the family businesses going but they can’t force it on to them. It’s something they’re not passionate about. My family are immigrants from Southeast Asia, and I’m 1st generation born in the states. We’re just getting started and paving the way for our future generations. All I can say is take everything that you can from what your family is made of and from. These days kids take everything for granted. These days they’re to worried about followers and materialistic reasons.

Great video you creat your own conditions, through your decision making ability. If you want good opportunities so you can make good decisions, make good decisions to create good opportunities. It's simple, Starting early is the best way of getting ahead to build wealth, investing remains a priority. I learnt from my last year's experience, i am able to build a suitable life because I invested early ahead this time. I pray that anyone who reads this will be successful in life 🙏🙏🙏
