If you are talking about the CG Captain that gave the intro speech, I agree. What I liked about it was that it clearly laid out the mission, but also left recruits of the understanding that the service and country "need them to complete their mission". So often people go there feeling like they have no reason to be there or not good enough. Letting them know day one that something bigger than themselves NEEDS them really changes thing. Sometimes it will be the first time that a young person will ever hear something like this.

Advice I got from someone who served was to get as much sleep as possible whilst on the bus, screw getting to know the person sitting next to you try and get whatever sleep you can, cause once you're off that bus you won't be getting sleep or much sleep at all during the time you arrive(BTW THIS IS MOSTLY FOR THOSE WHO WILL ARRIVE AT NIGHT TIME). He told me when he arrived there at the base camp location at close to 9:30pm it took them to 3:00 am to get into bed and guess what happened? they were woken up at 0500 2 hours after falling asleep and he straight up said it was hell.

If you are able to sleep on the bus headed toward basic training, you have balls of steel. After some time in training, you'll be able to sleep anywhere, at any time. There was a person at the front taking the money and gave you a phone code to unlock the phone, and when that shit cut off, it hung the F up done or not. $3.00. We had one pay phone in the barraks that they eventually took the padlock off of. My grandfather BEGGED me to run from any draft after he came back from WW2. He said "They'll do everything. They'll say you have to hate to be a man. They'll say you have to stab to be a good person, and butcher to be an American. It isn't true." On the one hand, I don't want to dismiss veterans who have experienced hell on earth. On the other, I don't want to encourage young people to go die painfully. To everyone in the comments talking about how “unnecessary” and “uncivilized” recruit training is: That’s the entire point. The instructors don’t just yell and scream for the hell of it, it’s by design. They need these recruits (especially those in the Marine Corps and Army) to be able to function in highly stressful and chaotic environments such as a combat zone. If they don’t learn how to operate in such environments, they will shut down and not be able to function and complete their mission when and if that time comes. Combat is ugly, and your leaders are not going to hold your hand and politely ask you to load your machine gun or grab the extra ammo when grenades are exploding and people are actively shooting at you.
@dumboi53694 ай бұрын
That and allowing soldiers to recount experiences of abuse and the resulting trauma, over a cup of coffee helps bond and improve cohesion, trust, loyalty to the fighting organization they’re a part of, and morale, mainly cause they did research, and found guys who bond through trauma have pretty good relationships. So yeah, it ain’t pointless, it’s the most cost effective and easy method for them to fill a need.

I might be planning to join the coast guard as a helicopter pilot when I’m old enough, and that last part, “they’re waiting for you to go out and join them in serving the American people” gave me SOO MUCH MOTIVATION!
@calebmills6051Ай бұрын
Don't do it. Look into what the actual military operations of this country are, I get that you want to help but joining the military isn't the way to do that. Our military currently are not taking any actions that serve to aid anyone in need, do your research into what our forces are actually being used for. If you join the military you would simply become another pawn for the government to use in it's oil tycoon. If you want to serve the american people look into other service jobs like firefighting, police work, etc.
@jeffbeck899320 күн бұрын
@Orion7204-m5b Don't worry about the above comment. Flying a helo in the Coast Guard is a solid way to serve your country and moreover, participate in a mission set that directly serves people, often in life and death moments of need like few other services get to do on a regular basis. CG was my first choice at 18 years old BTW, but couldn't make SAR Swimmer path work so I went into the Navy aviation field, then did other things until next thing I knew, 20 years had flown by. What a ride. 👍 Focus on where you are right now. Do well in school, don't get mixed up in drinking/drugs and keep your nose clean with the cops - or even better, get into the local police/sheriff's department Explorer/Cadet Program if there's one in your area and/or hang around a local air field and schmooz with pilots. I did JROTC my last 2 years of high school, that was helpful in a few ways. Keep yourself fit and trim, don't be an overweight video game couch potato teenager, if you know what I mean. Apply for grants and scholarships but if one doesn't pan out right away, start with affordable community college/Jr. College for the first 2 years to knock out requirements. Once you establish yourself with transcripts that show you're serious, that gives you some leverage for other programs to finish the 4-year degree with paths to commissioning flight school program. Talk to Coast Guard personnel. If none in your area, chat them up on social media. Don't be a fan girl, just be brief and ask succinct questions about their experience in the process, and solid courses of study/degrees to compliment what you want to do. It's all out in front of you. Good luck. JB, Master Chief, USN(Ret). ⚓

Definitely an experience you won’t forget. Also the key on the chain that locks and unlocks your AB Drawer. RDCs did not like seeing that chain, and the whole division felt the wraith of the LT in the PWay when he saw that damn chain. I dont know about the yelling. "Setting them up for High Stress enviroments" When they get shot at, just like any other person, they go into shock or they dont. You really cant prepare people for these kinds of situations, you just cant. How you react in those situations has nothing to do with if you were yelled at in Boot Camp. Countries with soldiers which dont get yelled at fight about the same, if not better in some regards. In the German Army they have a rough tone, but they never "yell" at you for no reason. They give you stressful situations to train stress handling, like timed tasks. Not useless yelling that wont help you in any situation. However i can see how its Tradition in most US Branches and its not like anyone forces these recruits to join.

It's the fastest way to get males hair into regulation while also taking away any sense of individuality.
