This deck gets a whole lot stronger when you have dragoon in the list, red eyes fusion is a foolish for a dragon and sets up a negate to protect your lock. Red eyes insight sends a dragon to grave as cost too

If you go first before they place a mystic mine the buster dragon and deck daddy arent activated effects. They're conditioning effects like mystic mine. Therefore both players cant activate effects on field and opponent is fprced in defence position

I mean, this deck would be really cool... If Nadir Servant wasn’t 70 bucks a pop. That’s not the most horrific price I’ve seen in this game, but it’s hard to swallow with little to no official paper play. The Red-Eyes fusion package is “budget” (comparatively) and solid, but I don’t appreciate the negative synergy with Whelp being a starter. Back to the lab for me, but this deck definitely has some potential. I can see more builds crawling out of the woodwork when people get bored of playing VFD and hand loop mirrors. The key here is finding an engine that bins a dragon and trades well with the opponent’s card advantage, since the native Buster support can’t always play through an Ash on Whelp. All in all, it’s a nice tidy engine that can win you the game outright when resolved. Can you really ask for more from an archetype based on a card that came out in 2002?

you could buy the japanese version of cards if you find their tcg counterparts too expensive. the ocg doesn't have too bad of a short printing problem and usually cards are way cheaper even with the overseas shipping.

Apologize for the long comment, but as a Buster Blader fan, I do want to make some recommendations for the deck list. I’m aware that this is meant to be a skeleton that changes but I still want to mention this. Main Deck: Use at least three main deck Buster Blader monsters with most as the ORIGINAL. Unless your playing the Destruction Sword link, which can mill swordmaster, it is overall better to use the original. It’s more convenient when you run into that rare situation with a sitting Whelp that can use the hand. And having at least three makes the condition for prologue even more likely. I personally would take out one Nibru, the Upstart, and the Paleozoic traps, and replace them with Dinowrestler Prankatops, Dragon Buster Destruction Sword, and 2xDestruction Sword Flash traps respectively. Prankatops for being a level 7 that can special summon itself far easier and reliably, pop back row (one of BB many weaknesses) and potential synchro fodder, which I do think is a nice for this deck. Dragon Buster and Flash for more search, extender, and disruption options. (Pls don’t ban Dragon Buster! Union Carrier is the real culprit!) In place of five-head dragon I would actually have a third Buster Dragon just in case. Other options that aren’t quite good but still worth looking into are Where Arf Though? with Jester Confit/Tenyi Tuner to search whelp. Monster Reborn for various situations. And others like Verte Anaconda with Super Poly and Fusion Dragon. (Or Dragoon of Red Eyes if you’re one of those type.) Those are my recommendations to this specific deck list.

I remember Dinos being in a similar spot. I've been calling it tier 1/meta since ETCO came out, and it got more tops as their meta developed, but everyone just wrote it off in favor of Eldlich Synchro and Adamancipator (with block dragon), even though it can easily keep up with them. I feel the same is going to happen to this deck. Though I hate playing against this deck, I won't deny it has a very amazing niche in this meta. The cute dog will live on for Eternity!

Mbt, red eyes insight and the dragoon package in general is this decks most valuable asset. Even if they ash the red-eyes fusion, you have a dragon in grave, and if you get dragun you have an Omni-negate + skill drain.

Buster Blader can also work pretty well as an engine in Dragon Link, since you just need a combo starter + Prologue, used to be much better while Ib still was legal though

I like this! But why aren’t you playing the dragoon package? Red eyes wyvern and the og red eyes become dragon fodder for the buster combo. A con i came across buster blader a while ago was protecting the lock by card effects or something like imperm, you know? Dragoon’s negate to me felt like insurance that it’d stay overall this is really good Mbt! :}

100% agree. Not only that put dragon in GY for your fusion it also put Omni negates that hard to remove. And why the hell did he put 3 ecclisia & 2 knight? 1 ecclisia and 1 knight are more than enough (as nadir can recover them from GY). Honestly 2 REF, 1 REBD, 1 DM, 1 wyvern and 3 insight can be swap in for the 2 ecclisia, 1 Knight, 1 trap trick, 2 dinomiscious and the 3 pots(as the pot is not legal yet in TCG).
