I've caught smallmouth and large mouth mixed in with schooling stripers on top water baits in lower then 50 degree water temps. I won't running any pattern with it or anything, but when the time is right, they'll run shad up to top and bust on em. That's why I keep some kind of topwater walking bait on 365 days a year. On a 7'3 medium heavy duckett Silverado with a lews lfs spooled with 20 pound power pro, and a 12 to 18" Berkley big game 17 pound mono leader. Never changes. Stays on left side of my feet, closest rod to me ready to go don't even keep it hooked to keeper, I can pick it up and fire it on schooling fish in seconds. Normally it's a cotton cordell pencil popper, or a shower blows. Depending on if I'm thinking it'll be bass busting or stripers its helped me fill out a bag in tournament and helped bring home striper fillets to my little girl. She loves striper. Sometimes you gotta be ready to fire on em. When I'm striper fishing only, I got a heavy bucktail tied on, light one, a rig, and a rapala f18, or one of those big long striper bomber lures, and a top water. Some times I'll have a glide bait, or a big paddle tail. Depending on time of year. Those rubber skirted swamp monkey jigs guys use for striper on my lake are becoming more and more a favorite too. I love chasing them striper just about as much as I do bass. Especially when there hitting top water. You talk about fun. Take a lunker punker, or that new mega dawg by strike king, makes for some vicious blow ups and fun fights.

@ronaldshank75893 жыл бұрын
Amen! I see that you're from Georgia, and I know that we don't know each other, but it's pretty cool to run into someone else from Georgia. The reason that I say that is that I have a Preacher Friend of mine that lives up here in Staunton, Virginia, but that's from your State! This ol' boy's a Georgian, through and through. He Pastors a Church here in Staunton called Faith Baptist Church, and he's a real old-timey kind of a Preacher, too. He's a regular FIREBALL when he Preaches, and I love it! He tells us that he's from a small place called Tunnel Hill, Georgia. Ever hear of it? Just curious... anyway-have a great evening!
