I agree with you seeking advice on the internet. The amount of conflicting accounts is troubling, but as you said common sense ( rare these days ) and working logically gets you there. Thanks again for a great video and taking us to the museum. Cheers from Geoff

Gary....I agree 100% concerning advice given on the forums! I have found KZbin to the most valuable because you can "see" if they know their "stuff"! The LEAST reliable source is those Facebook groups! Of course, your advice is ALWAYS 100% accurate! Looking forward to more videos this year! I appreciate you!

Always brings a smile to see a new Classic Obsession video! I love the video on here of Alain de Cadenet driving the XJ13 - the noise is fantastic! Should be compulsory viewing for any young lad! Nice work on the XJS - re the internet, you also have those guys on forums who can apparently whip out an engine in 25 minutes while welding in a new floor....!

Just been under there refurbishing the grill and the under tray to spoiler screws which has mostly left the party. I agree, once these have been simply removed, the oil cooler is very accessible. Really enjoyed the later museum walk and talk with the E type restorers. Good mix.

Happy New Year Gary...I'm restoring my BMW Z3 and I belong to a Z3 forum and the help I've been given is amazing, but you're right you have to weigh up the "experts" out there. The guy who said the oil cooler is the most difficult thing was probably a Jag mechanic touting for business 😂

I used to work at Silverstone and the guys from up north came down, with there racing jags and asked me to help them go the circuits fuel pit! That was the first time I had driven a real vintage jag and boy was it so smooth! That happened in the early nineties! If I could ever get one I would get one of those! Just beautiful!

Happy New Year Gary, another great video! I couldn’t agree more about some of the forums, many people just have no idea or go about it in an illogical way and others seem to get of on putting people down! Good to see the XJS back on the road, Gaydon has changed a bit since I last went, perhaps it’s time for another visit.

The XJSC is a cabriolet rather than a convertible but that one had rear seats added and the solid rear section as the standard was a canvass roof. It's news to me that the car once belonged to the queen mother and then the late queen.

Happy New Year Gary ! A nice episode to ease us in with !! We are looking at replacing the starter motor on my Dads XJ12 and if you look at some of the forums , it appears you have to remove the gearbox .... we are going to look at this in anger this year as the starter is very slow but going to upgrade the power feed first to see if this makes any difference as the existing power feed looks quite thin and gets very warm when cranking. Been some time since I went to Gaydon and looks like alot has changed - a boys day out with George and the old fella 🙂 keep up the great work !!!

@@classic.obsession By the way Gary, I grew up in the rural Midwest portion of America where the vast majority of vehicles were American-made at the time. I can still remember the first time I laid eyes on a Jaguar XJS as a kid back in the 1970s. That was among the most exotic cars I had ever seen up close back then and in a town of 3,000 people (where my grandmother lived) it truly stood out! I had previously only read about Jaguars in books and magazines. (I would learn more about British cars a bit later when I bought a used Spitfire for my first car.) Best of luck with your Jaguar and all of your cars going forward.

Gary you should get one of those self contained Chinese diesel heaters to warm up your garage. Only £87 on a very well known website. They give off loads of heat. Just needs some diesel and a 12v car battery to get it going.

As an alternative to the BLUE on the threads , Gary, you could have used PTFE tape. Loved the Alvis TD21 series cars, but always thought the wheels looked too small in diameter for the body size. Love the earlierXJS convertible with the targa type top , as it keeps better rigidity than the full convertible which appeared later. Princess Diana , lovely , much missed. Did you find out what was causing the leaks on the XJS in the floor area , Gary .? ( Some episodes ago)
@classic.obsession15 сағат бұрын
Yep. I was going to use order but would been a waste of life trying to wrap it around Mart!! Opted for the easier route. The XJS has really grown on me. Love the shape and design. No. Never found the cause of the leak and amazingly, it’s stayed dry. Regards.

I totally agree Gary. Owner forms are useful but you have to read them with caution. I use MB owners forums and what annoys me is that people feel they need to make a comment even though they don't have a clue what they're talking about. Why comment if you can't add value. It has cost me money and time in the past because I have stupidly believed the fist guy and followed his erroneous advice.

The biggest pain jobs on an XJS is replacing the rear discs and calipers, pulling the radiator or doing the water pump. We never pulled an engines out of them, the ones that came in needing an engine were typically junk cars not worth sticking any money into
