I cannot say enough thanks for this video. The American medical industry tends to still perpetuate these myths. Thankfully, my OBGYN stays very current and is absolutely fine with putting me in her this week. I wish I had found her earlier. I’ve been dealing with peri menopausal symptoms for ten years and in the last five have absolutely nearly lost my sanity and my own sense of oneness with my own body! It’s been as if I’ve been waging war against my body and I’m losing! I cannot wait to start my hrt this week!

Oh my gosh…thank you. I’m sharing this with my doctor here in Portugal. I’m 67 and do NOT ever wish to stop. Yet, they are so far behind the science here. I’ve had two doctors tell me they are not “comfortable” prescribing for me any longer. It’s not their comfort I’m concerned with and fighting for.

Glad to hear that you don't discourage older women from HRT. I went through menopause at 38, refused Premarin on ethical grounds, and never heard a word about natural body-identical estrogen on the market in subsequent years. I'm now 74 and realize that everything that's wrong with me could be related to estrogen deficit, and the hardest part of this journey is going to be finding someone who will prescribe it for me.

Thank you. I'm 62 and I've been on HRT for 10 years and my new gynaecologist is insisting that I must stop and that if I don't there is a big risk of breast cancer. I tried to quit for 2 months and took homeopathic pills to help with the hot flashes. I have severe hot flashes. I was miserable. Absolutely miserable. I told her I want HRT again. She's agreed to 6 more months but insists that I must quit after that. I want to have control of my life.

When asking to see a doctor about menopause symptoms, I made sure I saw a female doc over 50, no young male doc is going to understand anything, even if he has read med books - I can read the same med books myself. So, by asking to see a menopausal doctor, I thought I’ll get a better response and yes, she got me on HRT quickly and referred me to a menopause clinic on NHS (I’m in London UK)

@@lilacview667 The better doc to see about menopause, is a doctor who’s in menopause herself. Or at least female. Asking a young or old male doc about menopause is like asking me what testicle pain is like - as in, absolutely 100% clueless, cos I’m a woman. As soon as you get dismissed by a clueless doc about menopause symptoms, get the hell out. There are many helpful docs now, just have to search and listen on here.

Hi Jacki, Dr Newson has created a fact sheet on this topic that you may find interesting - you could even take it with you to show your GP. Here is the link: www.menopausedoctor.co.uk/media/files/Fact-Sheets/Starting-or-continuing-HRT-after-the-menopause.pdf Best wishes.

If it protects the heart why have two GP's refused me it?I am so desperate for help now.I rarely leave the house.

What I find interesting is the term 'post' menopause, it somehow suggests that there is an end to the menopause, that we go through it for a few years and then come out of it. Menopause (note the word 'pause) suggests that is just a passing phase, once we are in it it is with us for the rest of our lives. The confusion arises because when women enter postpartum it is generally a phase they go through after giving birth and then return to normal. This does not happen with menopause. There is never a 'post' phase!

I'm 50 and just started using hrt one day ago.

What concerns me at the moment is the shortage of Utrogestan, a body identical progesterone, and the replacement of it with synthetic types of progesterone.. what is the increased risk of getting cancer, and WHY do we allow such shortages in production to put women at any increased risk? If men were affected these shortages wouldn't even happen, and if they did, would be dealt with swiftly.

Hi Gina, it is quite common for doctors to prescribe antidepressants as menopause treatment - changes to mood is often the primary reason menopausal women first go to see their doctor or nurse.
