I am so grateful to doctors like you who are bringing this knowledge to the public. It's shocking how little education is provided on this...I can't help thinking that if men suddenly lost all their testosterone when they turned 50, the medical community (and society in general) would have taken the topic seriously a long time ago! Thank you both again...

I agree and we shouldn’t have to seek to be able to find this information, it should be actively promoted and available on the NHS. This is vital information to enable us to live our lives with health and knowledge that taking HRT is safe and the health benefits outweigh the risks. I will be writing to the health secretary as this needs to be on their health agenda!

Testosterone and Estrogen have both been traditionally demonized due to their association with analogous compounds that have been used for cheating in sports and some debunked but popular studies. I'm on feminizing HRT and my endocrinologist has me on estradiol patches and cyproterone; the standard of care requires that I have to take a liver toxic testosterone blocker to mitigate the risk of blood clotting due to Estradiol 17 Beta absorbed slowly through my skin. And I'm not sure if crushing my testosterone into the ground this way is necessarily healthy either.

Doctors are so worried about risks yet not at all worried about the risk of living with NO QUALITY OF LIFE. It's so difficult to carry on when the impacts are so devastating on life. I told my endocrinologist the other day that "what I have right now is WORSE than cancer, because it is almost killing me every single month when, I am at my worst." It is a disgrace that you had to bully your doctor as NICE guidelines are that if you request HRT from your doctor that it should be prescribed that benefit outweigh the risk. I cannot stop HRT as each time I do my symptoms comeback with a huge whoosh. The first time I stopped my young female dr pushed me into stopping, I tried to stay off but my symptoms did not stop after almost a year and I was almost 60. I heard about NIce guidelines and of course requested and quoted NICE guidelines, she reluctantly prescribed them My equilibrium returned. I am almost 70 now still working for necessity but do wonder will my symptoms of sweeping boiling hot flushes from my stomach and then almost immediately temperature dropping feeling freezing cold that would then leave me feeling faint, ever stop.

Great talk! I know it’s been said before BUT, ALL physicians/gynecologists MUST be trained on this topic in order to get their licenses, or at the very least make it MANDATORY for them to do proper training in order to retain their licenses if they’re already practicing. It should NOT be an uphill battle for women to fight for our health! It’s ridiculous really.

No more joy is the perfect description of how I feel. I had no idea you could get HRT before the ‘official’ menopause starts when periods stop. That could have prevented me suffering all these symptoms for years. I wish you were my NHS drs! Have been back and forth reporting to my GP and even a Dr with menopause specialism at a local gynae clinic for past few years, but still have learned more from this one video and having watching Davina McCall’s Channel 4 documentary on menopause that I watched in May this year. Highly recommended viewing btw. Thanks so much to you both and Davina for bringing this into the light and helping so many women to understand and improve their health 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Most people cannot afford their services so you’re stuck fighting with your GP or regular gynecologist who are covered under our Healthcare insurance for visits, not the actual hormone prescription.

Omg, ive had every single symptom mentioned for well over ten years and not one doctor has ever mentioned being perimenopausal. Ive gone from perimenopausal to menopuasal in 7 years and suffered alone. I spoke to a gp after I watched the programme on menopause by Davina McCall a few months ago and after 2 lots of blood tests I proved to be estrogen deficient and so ive now been advised to go on HRT patches, which im now started this week. Im hoping to be feeling a lot better. Sadly gps in general for decades have been so uncaring and unsupportive to womens well-being and so very quickly dismissed. Thankfully there's more information out there but to honest so much more should be done. Men being informed and educated in this matter is seriously important. Such a useful and conclusive video, thank-you! Testosterone does seem to be the missing piece of the jigsaw, but so difficult to get (I hope this changes) Not that easy to get HRT, my advice to anyone is to go to your Dr with a shopping list of what you would like to try and a long list of every single symptom - then prepare for battle and do not be fobbed off until you get to try HRT. Once on HRT you will need to experiment with doses, until you find what works for you. Good luck all and don't give up 👍

Absolutely fantastic information. Why are GPs not taught about menopause to this level. It would save so much money on the NHS . Woman would be feeling so much healthier and able to do so much more. I wonder what the Statistics are of woman having to have given up work in their 50s when deep down they didn’t want to. Due to menopause they became so Inconsistent with energy levels and suffering so bad with health issues. . Yet there wasn’t any need for that to have happened at all. yes I was also one who thought HRT would increase cancer. Doctors ended up giving any old thing without knowing what they were doing. So I Had to take my self of to a sexual health clic to get help which was many years down a line, I he was someone who understands menopause. Yet his hands were tied. He wasn’t able to give me full treatment because it was a sexual health clic not menopause help. Never had I been so along. I so wish I could visit you guys.

I did my own research as I often do, and discovered so much more, but those experiences with GPs was incredibly demoralising and disappointing, treating me as if I was imagining things. Interesting as soon as I mention I’m a psychotherapist their approach changes... and I really don’t think it should be this way. It would be helpful if GPs listened to their patients more whilst using their own discretion to work with the patient.

I’m watching this on behalf of my mother. We need more channels and platforms like this to challenge the narrative about the ‘risks’ of HRT. If you look at the ‘studies’ reviewed in the NICE technical appraisal on HRT you’ll see that an overwhelming amount are so poorly designed, poorly powered, lack control, decent tenure, are retrospective studies and we must absolutely be aware that ‘association’ can not inform on ‘risk’. HRT for women and Testosterone for men should be made available for those who need it and the dose should be based on symptom resolution, not numbers from a one-off blood test. Thanks for this video.

This has to be one of the most informative videos I’ve seen on perimenopause and menopause. I’m in the US and wish I could find doctors like you. I’m going to start searching. My mom passed away from dementia in May this year, and a few years ago she fell and broke her wrist. I think prevention is the key. I now realize how flawed that HRT study was in 2002. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

Thank you so very much for this amazing video. I'm 43 and I'm really suffering. I've been having symptoms for over 2 years and have been pleading with my doctors for help. Thankfully a new wonderful doctor said straight away that she is going to start me on HRT. I start it next week. I absolutely can't wait as I'm scraping the barrel and just cannot go on for much longer. The information you give is life saving and I don't feel so alone and so abnormal anymore. Thank you so much again x

Extremely useful as I am currently taking HRT and my symptoms became worse and I was unaware of the increase in treatment until I contacted my GP who has prescribed an uplift in my treatment. Most women don’t realise that their menopause will change and my GP initially never mentioned symptoms getting worse or stated that there would be a review of my treatment. I only went back to my GP after speaking to other women so this is very hit and miss.

Very informative conversation. I just started on HRT and am on the lowest dose of Estrodiol. I'm also on a capsule of Progesterone daily. I'm feeling so much better but my Naturopath when she put me on the HRT she said that I would not be on in for the remainder of my life, only 5 years maximum. I'm 63 years old, so do you also advise only a 5 year term on HRT? Theres no medical concerns for me to have to stop, I believe it is just my Naturopaths belief.

Thank you for the thorough information! I've bene suffering for 2 years (thanks to a doctor who didn't know how to properly read my FSH level on my bloodwork!). Doctors here in the States always mention breast cancer when I suggest HRT for myself. It's very disheartening. We women have to be our own advocates.

I think I should write a Book on this subject, perimenopause started when I was 39, I started sweating excessively which isn’t nice at all, I was having 3 to 4 showers a day. As the years went on I was still having regular periods, they didn’t change at all. Through a period of time I‘d had a Mirena coil, which I thought was heavenly not having periods, however I started having flushes, in time I had the coil removed. My periods continued until I was 50 then I did go through the real menopause, 1 year and a day! Unfortunately I still have flushes and feeling uncomfortable, but I’m on HRT, it helps but at 57 that’s almost 20 years I‘ve had all this, and I‘ve no sex drive at all, thank goodness I‘ve got an understanding Husband.

Thank you so much for such an informative video. I have many of the symptoms you mention, brain fog and memory has got so bad that I’ve actually missed work meetings 3 times recently even though I’m sat at my computer with the reminder coming up! I’m 47 and have an under active thyroid, the GP reduced my thyroxine last year as he said I needed iron tablets and once that was boosted I wouldn’t need the same level of thyroxine. I had Covid in December and haven’t felt well since so put my symptoms down to reduced thyroxine and Covid effects but now I don’t know if I’m peri menopausal. Haven’t got the strength to have a GP appointment yet as they always say it’s stress or depression 😢

If you want to try HRT the easiest way is to tell your GP you're having hot flushes (even if you aren't) as that seems to be the only symptom some doctors recognise. Sometime you just gotta do what you gotta do!

These two GP’s put most other GP’s to shame. I had a Gp who flatly refused me HRT several times. Even though I was super suffering. How many other women suffered at the hands of these doctors. All doctors should be forced to do a crash online course to bring them up to speed on this subject matter. That how serious I take the menopause. My EX GP prescribed a beta blocker for hot flushes. It did nothing to improve menopause symptoms. Thankfully I am now on HRT but I still think it needs tweaking. And I do not feel like I am dying any longer.👍❤️👍🇬🇧

You need to go to a menopause specialist or another gp, one who really cares and listens and allows you to choose what's best for you.
@TheoriginalANGEK4393 жыл бұрын
@@kristenbuckland2041 Yes thank you, I am currently sorted. However, I bet that other woman going to these GP’s are probably suffering and getting the same treatment that I did. I was point blankly refused HRT. No GP should say no you can’t have HRT because of their beliefs. And because they are not educated in the subject matter. That could push a woman suffering really badly over the edge. Because menopause can also take a toll on one’s mental health. Thanks for your reply. I was just telling people of my experience. And to help spread awareness. 👍♥️👍🇬🇧

The information has helped me not only daring to take HRT as I had been scared off, due to the breast cancer scare but it also helped me ask my GP for the best solutions and in genera know more about and understand all the various symptoms. I have been on HRT just over 2 months and sleep has dramatically improved. I have also used the Balance app to track my symptoms and it seems. I m listening again to this after a Hysteropathy and am upping my dose of oestrogen gel again with vaginal utrogestran as I got my symptoms back. I was crying suddenly, not sleeping again and felt terribly anxiety. I need my hormones to live independently and work on in this world of equality it is essential for me to remain self supporting. Without my hormones I can’t. I would not want to be disabled in later life by lack of hormones. And the fact that 75% of menopausal women are obese and suffer osteoporosis and dementia which can be prevented is criminal. This is a huge failing on the part of UK gov that they raised the retirement and state pension age for women and have not expanded healthcare provision for women. We can’t work with the debilitating symptoms of the menopause. If I didn t have hormones then I would be useless

I had started having hot flushes back in 2014 at the age of 34. At that time i also suffered with anxiety, mood swings and insomnia. I was diagnosed with severe pms, but now I’m not so sure that’s what it has been at all. As I got older, more symptoms appeared. I just put it down to severe pms as that’s what I was told it was. 2019 my periods started becoming irregular. Fast forward to this year and they became lighter and even more irregular. Skipping a couple of months at a time. I started with fast heart rate/palpitations. All the bloods and other tests at hospital came back clear. a&e consultant told me he believes it’s Perimenopause and to ask GP to start on HRT straight away as there is no reason that I can’t. My GP has refused 3 times because I’m 42. Told I need to FSH blood test and when that comes back normal I still won’t get HRT. In other words they want me to wait until I’m 45! I don’t leave the house because I’m struggling to cope with the symptoms
