This makes me so emotional 🥹. You are amazing for making the conscious decision to make a change for your children. It’s so easy to remain bitter about the past but it takes so much strength to decide to move forward with positivity for the future.

I thought I was the only one that did not have a mother anywhere near Sonya growing up. My mother never cooked, shopped or cleaned. She felt if she worked outside of the home, she did not have to do anything in the house. My father worked, got up at 3 am for work, came home and napped for two hours and then made us dinner.

Thank you Sonya, you read my mind this morning... Woke up today out of a very tough emotional dream, and I just wanted something to comfort me and make me feel better, so I thought "I'll watch some of Sonya's videos". I got up, opened up KZbin, and there you were, smiling at the very top of my feed with a new video. Can't say thank you enough. Your videos are so precious to me, just seeing you do normal everyday things around your house, taking care of your family, and listening to your quiet voice just soothes my spirit, and makes me feel like there are still small happy nice things in this world. Plus, you actually managed to motivate a totally non cooking loving girl to make something in the kitchen today. You're just awesome, and thank you so much for being here. 💗

Though I am Jewish, I am married to an Italian man. I can share a bit of wisdom I’ve learned about sauce with you from my MIL, who was born and raised near Rome, Italy… Start with EVOO and some minced garlic on low until the garlic is lightly browned (to infuse the oil with the garlic). _Crushed garlic can also work, but you’d want to remove those cloves before proceeding._ Once you’ve browned the garlic a little, it’s time to add your crushed tomatoes. Add a couple 28 oz. cans of crushed tomatoes, and then 2 cans of tomato paste to the pot. Fill that little 6 oz can of tomato paste with water twice and add it to the tomato/evoo/garlic blend and mix well. With cleaned and inspected basil, oregano and Italian parsley - you can add them as you please, along with salt and pepper. This is also the time to add any other seasonings you enjoy (I.E.: garlic powder, onion powder, etc.) Then, to cut the acid, add a little sugar or a few shreds of carrots (because they’ll release their natural sugar to quell the acidity a bit) and let the sauce simmer. If you want a meat sauce, make sure you add a marrow bone and homemade meatballs (or seasoned, cooked and drained ground beef) to the sauce and let it simmer along with it. Periodically stir it, but let it simmer on low. If it starts to reduce too much, just add a little more water and allow it to keep going until the flavor develops where you like it (and the meatballs are cooked, and the bone has given all of its goodness to the sauce). Now… if you’re planning on using the sauce for pizza, you’ll want vegan mozzarella shred for the pizza if you’ve added meat to the sauce, obviously. It’s entirely up to you! 😊 But this is how Italians make their sauce (but they only use the fresh herbs and not the garlic powder, etc.). I just noticed you added some to yours, so I figured you’d want to add it to the above sauce mix and that’s perfectly fine. Your food looks amazing, as always! Thanks for sharing your time with us. 😃 Edit: I forgot to add that it will take 1.5 to 2 hours for the sauce to simmer.

I love how you talk about making things for your family and focus on the enjoyment and satisfaction of working with your hands. You can hear your love for your family, which is my goal as a mother too. When people I meet realize that my family enjoys sabbath’s and feasts and showing love for our creator, our families and neighbors in all of the ways, they often seem shocked and sounds as if I’m obeying rules that are oppressive when in fact it is a joy to do all things with joy and love. Nicely done! I pray our families feel the love mre and more with each passing day as we become wiser women. Shalom!

Yes please on a new sourdough update, as to how you are doing things now... (And maybe a separate one on how you manage your starter too? Tho if that is too boring/minimal content, maybe intersperse it with day-in-the-life? Always such a pleasure...) And yes, I could watch a good baker work ANYTIME, and in fact one of the best things recently was seeing your mommy's hands doing that astounding long skinny rollout for wraps, I forget what it was called... I showed my father because he a baker/cook and he wrote "Brava!!!" :) xoxoxo
