Cool. They’re trying their own thing and doing it in a way that is reasonably priced for the consumer. I like the originality of these, even if some of them are bit messy, but I think this one is on the right track. I think gradually the designs will be honed and refined.

Really helpful review, Ben. You're right about the finishing. It will show a lot of wear in no time. I just got this watch today for $120. I watched your review before deciding and to be honest, I was really worried about the size so, I went to the store to try it on. Surprisingly it fits my wrist, we're pretty much the same wrist size. A little more bulky and it won't fit. My only complaint about the watch is the clasp. It's quite sharp on the sides.

Ben, check out the Accurist 7172 or 7173. 38mm minimalist watch with domed mineral glass, applied indices, multi level face and a thin case. And get this... It's fully titanium, even the strap and catch. Can be found for around £40-50 at the moment.

The Spinnaker is uncool in my book. Size and feature wise it's not particularly special, and what it does differently is more oddball than innovative.

It's cool. The downside is the lug connection (can't use other straps) and lug-to-lug distance (>50mm).

I like the look, but the unbalanced dials on the complications is indeed a problem - if they wanted to make one bigger, it should be the center one so the face as a whole is balanced, although I can live with it. The bead-blasted look of all the metal is nice and goes well with the white dial. It looks reasonably well constructed and I like the water resistance and the sapphire crystal. While I would prefer a mechanical movement and for that price in fact a good chinese mechanical chronograph can be purchased the meca-quartz is a very good compromise. My feeling about it is that it would be very cool if it wasn't for the price. At about $260 to $300 USD, it's a bit pricey for what it is. My measure for any watch price is, if it's not Swiss (I don't worry a lot about Swiss watches but I recognize that they do command a price premium), how does it compare to a Chinese watch? I'm confident I could get an equivalent Chinese watch (maybe with the same movement) for $100 USD or less. So, it's a very cool watch (in terms of design and features) with an uncool price, which means I think that overall it's middle-of-the-zone Cool.

I have the Spinnaker Fleuss which shares the same DNA as this one, and as a bigger dude I love it. I think Spinnaker is on the right track, just has to release some models that are smaller. Oddly enough, the Fleuss doesn't have a proprietary bracelet so I'm curious on why they changed it.

This is a very interesting piece that as you mentioned has a rather different design! The dial for me is quite an interesting look and I think I may have to pick this watch up in the future! The wave design is reminiscent of the Omega diver, but perhaps a little overdone. I'd think if they spaced it out a bit more and engraved it a bit shallower, it would be great. Add a regular date window, fix the subdial sizing, maybe add some metal polishing, and you'd have a damn good design

I haven't pulled the trigger on a Spinnaker yet but I do like thier designs in general. This one looks good to me, especially considering my old age, failing eye sight, I like the larger watches these days

I appreciate them trying to do something a little bit unique. The movement is definitely a plus but the size feels just a bit big and the overall design of the wave on the dial is not my favorite. I agree with you that trying to do something different than just "another diver" and this was world's better than that other dumpster fire. I appreciate the honest straightforward reviews without over gushing or making puking sounds! I'd put this between uncool and cool.

Cool. It's good to see fresher designs. The Hydrofoil isn't too outlandish. I'm a fan of the matte finish. Seeing the whole case and bracelet in matte though... Yeah, I'm not so sure I like it. Overall, nice watch. Excellent review as always.

What I like about Spinnaker is that they do have a lot of confidence in their products and they let reviewers shit on them and still send reviewers new watches, and a lot of them are pretty cool. I'd buy one if they used movements I like. The new Spinnaker logo is okay, but yes, it looks like Zelos. I feel like they used to have a cool sailboat or something. I prefer that.

Ice cold. The larger subdial on the right works well-balanced by the two dials on the left. They make the left dial look small, because that left dial size is intended. It adds toward making the dial dynamic.

If i was a bigger dude, this watch would be great. I like its design and its boldness. Spinnaker gets props for doing some things a bit different design wise, and i really like their cali dial and have their hull diver on the way. Prices are very reasonable as well.

I think the logo is masts and sails. The rounded sail is the spinnaker and the triangle is the mainsail. There are 2 sets opposite each other.

I like this one actually, the wavy dial, like my Omega Seamaster Professional, the bigger subdial is a design cue from the Longines big eye, I like the color scheme and the blasted case. It's not ice cold, but definitely cool.

Spinnaker makes some decent stuff. I don’t know why they didn’t send a more straightforward watch. Not a fan of the combing of diver and chrono features on any watch. Seems like kitchen sink design. I really don’t like integrated bracelets.

Completely agree with the date window, perhaps polarising in opinion. The dull titanium look to the finish does not suite this kind of watch; It's best suited for field watches. The Spinnaker trade mark is too large as well. Personally, I think they need to improve on these points. It's a shame, I have to say uncool!

I actually quite like it the company are obviously open to input ,,even criticism and seem prepared to act on it ,,the bezel seems solid enough and the colour options are nice I personally like the date at the three or six o’clock positions but that’s not a criticism so yes well worth buying especially for that price point,,,

Edith Flood I don’t think asymmetry is necessarily bad. In fact my watch face is asymmetric. But in my opinion, I would like symmetrical sub dials on this watch if I did own it

It looks all wrong to me too, but not so much so that it'd a deal killer - A watch goes on a wrist, not the neck, so it's inherently on a side of the body, and unless you wear an identical watch on each wrist the look is inherently unbalanced and that's okay (I've been known to wear asymmetric clothing and people love it), so either it will be "the dials get smaller as they go away from you" or "the dials get larger as they go away from you".

I Like the basic look of this timepiece. I have a small wrist so a little large for me. However, with the screw lock Crown and Pushers, the Seiko Movement, for the price I think they have a nice looking, quality, time piece. The brushed finish looks like Titanium and I Like the look. They have selection of various pieces that I like. TheBlue grey version I liked!

Everyone needs a mecha quartz chrono in their collection. I use mine to set the time on my mechanical watches when they die. I like this oddity, however they dropped the ball on the narrow lugs/proprietary bracelet.

I think that most of the Dartmouth brands watches actually fit their inspiration I.E yachting for spinnaker quite well rather than filipo lorreti who stick a cathedral on the case back to say its influenced by Italy

A lot of Spinnaker's offering is way oversized for me (my fav is 38-40 mm), and this one is no different. It looks o.k, but nothing to write home about, so, this is between cool and uncool. Great review.

I find the hands are similar color with the dial making at a glance reading somewhat difficult. You can't stare at your watch for too long when someone is talking at you - if you want to be polite. I vote uncool

The watch is really beautiful, movment is great, but there are some downsides. I 100% do like the design, especially the matt effect, and the VK63 is a drawcard for me. Yet, the bracelet seems easily scratchable, it is unchangeable , we don't know if it's sapphire or mineral glass and last but not least, 250£ seems too much for me, especially for such an unknown brand. I wouldn't spend much more than 150, maybe 180£ on it. That said, I'd still indicate it as cool, as the dicey design is really a success imo

I'd go for a "cool minus". It's a bit too large and chunky for my taste, plus it's a bit too expensive for a Mecha-Quartz equipped watch. And while the design is fine, it's not that special, either. If it was my money and I really wanted an "upscale" Mecha-Quartz chrono, I'd probably go for one of the Dan Henry models.

Why on earth would the watch be so big and thick when the movement inside is just a VK quartz chronograph? When you consider Pagani is offering same quartz chronograph for less than $100, anything more than that just seem to be a rip off, this include most micro brands out there. The only brand that has an identity and at least tried to offer something unique is AV-8.

I don’t understand and never will, why watch designers don’t create contrast between the hands and dial. If your forced to gaze at a watch to eventually establish the time, it seems pointless. Don’t care how cheap or expensive. Principle is the same. Should be able to glance at your watch and quickly identify the time and not get lost in a sea of waves, colours, dots, gizmos, extra dials etc etc. Isn’t that the reason for wearing a watch?

It's not just the Chinese that make garbage watches, I would go further and say that the best Chinese watches offer unrivalled quality at their price point. That said this Spinnaker isn't for me, I despise watches that require new batteries, whatever the interval. Why they don't just fit quartz watches with solar powered movements I really don't get. That said I think the meca quartz at least looks a little better even if it is of the despicable battery flavour 🤣 My advice? Buy a real watch with springs, whirrly bits and soul.
