This is the definitive end-all explanation on getting the rolling credits to roll smoothly. You can't just slap on a scrolling credits title and get this level of smooooooth.

Paul = you are a legend. The jitter is a give-away for ppl who dont test on different screens and this shows an easy way to achieve smooth scrolling using a simple example. Appreciate that the example was simple too, as I have been avoiding Fusion but your instructions were clear and to the point.

Thank you so much, Paul!!!! This is THE tutorial I've been searching for!! I'm relatively new to DaVinci Resolve (former Premiere Pro user) and while I love DR, I was finding the default scrolling text effect to be so limiting (and not smooth). Your tutorial is EXACTLY what I needed to understand the causes of stutter and create a better way to title in DR. Subscribed!!!

thanks! I've been doing this for years in After Effects with expressions, and I hate it! This is a really good way to do it. I did it importing the graphics used for the scroll, and as a hint, you should manually enter the resolution of the file, instead of using auto resolution, for the motion to be precise at 1:1 pixel

This is excellent Paul, thank you. Very interesting to finally understand the issue behind the stuttering effect in credit rolls, and the solution is elegant and simple. Is there a way to incorporate logos in the credit roll and match the timing of the movement? I guess it would be a case of animating them separately and making sure they are keyframed at the same rate?

Hello Paul, I wanna thank you for this very nice and helpful tutorial. In your tutorial you are having the lines between frames jump by 3, 4 or 5 lines per frame. But for my rather long credits roll 1 line/frame was too slow and 2 lines/frame was too fast. I experimented with 1.5 lines/frame and even 1.25 lines/frame. Before exporting my whole documentary, which is more than 50 minutes, I just embedded the fusion composition in a new test project, just for the credits and exported it. And it scrolls very smooth when played. So, even with 0.50000 or 0.25000 lines/frame you can extend or shorten your credits and make them fit the 'credits music'.

Great tutorial and thanks for sharing knowledge, this is very useful. Looks like no solution for TV formatted programmes. TV credits are very specific in duration and although this method works very well for film, it doesn't work for TV. I am still having to use After Effects to get a decent smooth roll.

I am struggling to use the spline tool as you've described. Not really clear to me. I have a huge credit roll compared to yours and I am working with 4K, so when I am trying to normalize the lines the text travels e, my numbers are very different. My Y coordinates are inconsistent. Sometimes its 0.370351. other times it was -8500 when the text is below the screen.

Hi Paul, thank you very much for this usefull tutorial. Every step you explain and demonstrate are clear to me but there's one thing I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. When I want to adjust the font for for example the left column, I can't select the left column only. It keeps on selecting parts of the right column as well, even though the left column has a different adjusted tab spacing and I do not touch the right column at all when selecting the left column content. It's annoying since it is now a hell of a job to adjust the fonts manually row by row. I hope you can help me. Regards, Peter
@paulsaccone481
@paulsaccone481 3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, you have to select them one at a time. I've requested that they provide tab level style in addition to character level styling. You would get the same result if you tried selecting the left column in the word processor document that I demonstrated too. :-(

Like everything in Davinci one has to reinvent the WHEEL. Premier and most Video editors one simply types the text on the screen, drags it into positron, Picks a font, sizes it ,Clicks on left, center, or right justify. Then click if it's to be stationary, scroll left or scroll right, or Vertically from the bottom up or top down. Then the tough one to start on screen or not then end on screen or scroll off screen. Will even do the STAR WARS like intro/credits. But to get all that ease it used to cost me $500+ per year. This way it was $295 and the gave me a free SPEED EDITOR that's still NIB unopened.

Thanks a lot. I created a scrolling title with 15 lines per frame, they look better than the Scrolling Title tool, but they still look a little jumpy, not 100% smooth. I guess fast titles will be impossible to make totally smooth? I need that speed to pass all my credits through on 4o seconds.
@shotgunsounds
@shotgunsounds 2 жыл бұрын
It's a really well-explained video, simple to get to grips with (even as someone like me who's a bit scared of Fusion). BUT the logic of achieving smooth text rolls is missing a further factor, which is the resolution of the screen on which you're watching. The principal here works fine assuming you're watching on a 1080p monitor (i.e. same resolution as the video timeline / file), but unfortunately that's not controllable. If I follow these steps on my macbook pro (1920 pixel high display) I still get the stutter... sadly! Judicious use of motion blur in Fusion seems to help, but doesn't 100% solve the problem.

Paul, this method is great. But at the length of a typical feature length credit scroll, it's rendering about roughly 1 frame per second, even on a beefy 2019 Mac Pro. Given how often clients like to make little changes to the credits, it's an issue. Is there any way to use this method, but improve the render time?

Hmmm, when the TEXT1 box is active, I can drag the text up, down, left, or right. But with the TRANSFORM1 box active, I cannot drag the text. However, I can drag the green outline around the frame up or down. I can't tell from your video if you are dragging the text when you have the TRANSFORM1 box active, or the TEXT1 box is active.
@paulsaccone481
@paulsaccone481 3 жыл бұрын
Animation for position should definitely be done in the transform node, not the text node. Make sure you select the transform node and that it has the little white dot at the bottom left, indicating you are viewing it in the viewer. Press 1 or 2 to load it in the left or right viewer. Once it’s loaded in both the inspector and the viewer, the onscreen controls should work.
