I'm only nitpicking because I know you appreciate technical terminology and jargon. With that being said, and as unbelievable as it may be, Geoff actually describes himself as a baritone with a bass range. From a technical perspective, he's correct
@johndeeregreen45923 жыл бұрын
Sort of. His natural speaking voice is mid-bass and he is quite comfortable singing in baritone, then blasting those low notes. But, technically, he is a natural bass, just because of his natural speaking voice being so low; he just learned to push into contrabass.

I enjoy your analysis every bit as much as the singers / vocalist redition of these songs. My son is a Autistic young man, he so loved music as a baby and young child I encourage him by taking him for piano lessons. The instructor was ex Russian Opera singer, this women loved music. ( Reminds me of your passion for music) On James third week of lessons she ask if she could have a word with me after James lesson, alone?. I returned after his lesson where she ask "how many years has James been taking lessons?" I said three weeks why do you ask? She said the first week she showed James on the piano notes and how they sound, she was shocked the next week as James got every note she played correct, in order to impress upon me how rare this she drove it home by explaining she had college age students who have been students thier whole life yet could not do what James did in one week! Reminding me the students she taught were 22/23 years old!. I didn't say anything about this conversation to James right away, I waited a couple days before asking him how he was able to memorize the notes? He said simply "I can see the note and they are all different colors, I just remembered what color each note is ! Mind blown...not yet? I asked "where do you see them?" Just a I little annoyed he answered, "when she plays a note the note is right there in front of me!" Where I asked? "In the air over the piano!" Mind blown for sure god does bestow talents where needed, I think you too love music so much and for me it is inspiring, keep up the good work...music is food for the soul and conscience!

Whether it's done in painting, or sculpture, or (in this case) singing, it's so impressive to experience such craftsmanship.

"Intervalic distance".........love that term, and I will use it to make (yet another, I know) recommendation to you of a video to review. Tomi P, another incredible bass singer, recently released a mulit-layer/multi-track (like this one from Mr. Castellucci) cover he did of Hellfire from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Several reviewers/commenters of that video have stated that on (at least) one point in the arrangement he is covering 6 OCTAVES across all of his recorded layers. I don't want to spoil it for you, but one of the reviewers places the lowest note he hits at a location not even on the standard piano keyboard. The guy is pretty amazing. I think what I like best about this piece is his resonance. In some other pieces (like My Mother Told Me) he gets very edgy in the bass. This one his tone is so much smoother. Yes, some of that is in post, but post can't take a very edgy sound and make it this smooth. So not only can he hit those crazy low notes, he can give them life and nuance.
