Excellent breakdown once again sir 💯 I’ve been a fan of you for the last few years and I must say your videos are second to none. You have been instrumental in how I approach these techniques and concepts in training. If I may, I would like to request a breakdown of kawazu gake (grapevine throw in wrestling). It pairs well with a blocked uchi mata and I would be very curious to see how you breakdown the technique. Thanks again for all your hard work. You’re awesome man

Question does the judo gi help to teach these throws in wrestling?
@DPSBreakdowns
@DPSBreakdowns 3 жыл бұрын
Interesting question - I am not really sure. I think relying on the judo grips could actually make doing it in wrestling/no gi more difficult. You can generate a great deal of torque with certain gi grips that are just not available in a wrestling context. That being said, I think the mechanics would still be similar and could be carried over with certain adjustments.

@@DPSBreakdowns Thanks for your reply. I ask because I've heard before that in Chinese wrestling, Schuai Jiao, the jacket actually doubles for that purpose. Can't confirm this though.

Well done. The wrestling version takes considerable flexibility. In judo when hit perfect and deep, the uchimata is up the middle and under the center of gravity of your opponent. It is a pure hip throw and your leg never even touches your opponents leg. Ouchigarai is the excellent forward to back counter to their counter by shifting backward. And haraigoshi is another good technique to the far outside leg.
@JudoMateo
@JudoMateo 3 жыл бұрын
Uchi Mata is not a hip throw, it is classified as an Ashi Waza/Foot technique. Also many Judoka exhibit similar flexibility when performing Uchi Mata it’s not always necessary though because of the enhanced connection caused by the opponents gripping one another’s Gi’s affords much better torque than a whizzer and wrist control sometimes.
@ericcraig3875
@ericcraig3875 3 жыл бұрын
If an up the middle classic hip uchimata were hit with the explosiveness of Judo and the judaka brought their head to their own knee in an over-flexing follow-through reap, this over compensation could over rotate their opponent, landing them back on their own feet.
@JudoMateo

@@ericcraig3875 You seem quite attached to your mistaken belief regarding the original classic Uchi Mata being “up the middle” it isn’t and never was. By simply watching an expert perform the original you it can overcome your mistaken assumption, here I’ll enlighten youkzbin.info/www/bejne/n5qcZ6GtjJaafK8 The original Uchi Mata is not “up the middle”, possibly the one you first saw or experienced was but Judo has a very well defined curriculum and as I stated is and always has been an Ashi Waza/technique. Don’t take my word for it though check with a more accredited expert than myself “What Makes Uchi Mata Popular? Uchi Mata is quite popular for several reasons. Since it is an Ashi Waza, it can be used smoothly with other foot techniques. You can use foot sweeps to set the Uchi Mata. Though it looks beautiful when executed properly by a judoka in randori or actual competition, it isn’t a throw that can be used by everyone. For instance, it makes a lot of sense to use Uchi Mata if you are taller or larger than your opponent.” www.attacktheback.com/uchi-mata/
