Honestly no idea haha, but i would imagine that the back of the motherboard was sitting on the case and that shorted it out which is why we had a dead motherboard

Yeah it can be abit scarey but hopefully by watching a couple of youtube building tutorials you will know how to put it back together. You can even use abit of tape to lable the cables to help you out qbit

The last owner bolted the mobo to the case. Might have buggered the board doing that. Might try setting up and testing the board outside the case before discarding it.

No. The CPU Would bottleneck the gpu, the motherboards pci express has not enough lanes. The microstuttering would be all over the place

Quicker way to clean that motherboard, just remove the CMOS battery and shove it in the dishwasher. Obviously requires longer drying time, but will leave it sparkling clean.

Since the power button cables were broken and needed to be re-soldered, I wonder if the original motherboard was actually fine and just never got signals to power on?

I don't believe that I saw you reseat the CPU. That would have been an easy troubleshooting technique to show that the motherboard is bricked. You didn't look at the socket either to see if there were any bent pins either. Just some thoughts.

When I saw no standoffs I was like "gee I'm surprised the motherboard survived"... well it didn't haha. Probably like $1 worth of standoffs is the cause for the dead motherboard or at least logic dictates that. Hopefully any future new builders that see this video have this in mind. Btw I noticed that only the matching RAM was used. What's up with the other 2 modules. Busted? Would've been nice to know that.
