Buying A New Mini Excavator - Sight Unseen. What Could Go Wrong?

Finally, I pulled the trigger and bought a mini excavator for Rolling Operations! We went with the 2022 Kubota KX-040-4. This kubota mini ex is an absolute beast, and we can't wait to tear into some projects with it!
Will we regret it? Hope not. We just need to turn around and make a profit!

Has to replace the glass in one of those last year. They also managed to bend the rod on the thumb. Great advice about selling before the warranty runs out, never rent an old machine, those are only good for occasional users like me, or farmers. Good job figuring it out and practicing!

in rabbit mode they move pretty quick. Its on the blade control. Also float is on it as well if you jam the blade all the way down.

Assuming no additional attachments loaded. 18,000 lbs, plus 8-10k lbs of a trailer itself. It would have to be a solid trailer for sure! Nearly 26-28k lbs behind the truck. The main truck could handle it no problem, it has the high output motor and higher gvwrc. Can haul a combined 40k+.

Make sure you adjust the hydraulics on the thumb to bush in with the bucket as to avoid machine damage.

Exactly what you said. Just couldn't justify getting one small enough to fit inside the dumpster. Needed something a little bigger

Good size machine too start with. You can always buy one bigger or smaller if that's what you find out you need after you get more experience. Out of all the different types of equipment I own a mini excavator is still on my list to get. I just have never found a good enough deal on one that has worked out. About 50% of the equipment I have bought has eather been a dealer owned demo machine or a used machine with very low hours usually a piece of equipment that a guy bought brand new and thought he was going to get Into the business but never really got into it and his wife is tired of seeing it sitting in the side yard or driveway and that's the deals I look for.

congrats! does that machine have a switch on it that will allow it to be backhoe style controls? i know there is a bit of difference between how a backhoe and ex operates ive ran both before. ran the backhoe more than a ex and got decent with a backhoe. where i work has a Deere 60g it has a switch to swap control styles

I believe there is! There are different control settings you can swap between. Along with sensitivity levels

damn gooseneck must add a lot of weight. My 16’ 14k dump trailer has 9500lb payload. (bumper pull) Use it to move my 5519 telehandler that weighs 10300 with a little tongue weight
