Once I realized that running my engine at under 1500 rpm would cause more regen cycles, I never run it below that point. When actually operating the tractor, I make sure to run it over 2000 rpm. I hardly ever notice the regen cycle anymore. It is certainly not frequent. I used to panic when the light came on, but now I see it and keep on doing what I'm doing. I was leery of the regen system when I bought the tractor, but it has become a non-factor. I certainly wouldn't be concerned about it if I was purchasing a new tractor. Thanks for the video, Brock. Lots of good information!

Right' you're better letting the Diesels run.. but remember most of your dealers have a limit in running hours for your warrantee. Really interested in a Delete for our Deere skid steers, would modify it as soon as its out of original warantee. Aside from that my neighbor has the same unit as I do that came out before the bs Gov regulations, it sounds MUCH better too.

One point they didn’t cover is the DPF has a service life just like any other filter. Yes it collects soot and then burns it off. However there is ash that remains. Over time the ash will accumulate and plug the filter. So at some point it will have to be removed and cleaned or replaced. Or it could be bypassed with these tractors. Other models bypassing is not an option.
@TheTractorYard

This is a good point. Ash can be cleaned from the filter as well, but the element would need to be removed.

I live in north eastern Nevada. I bought that TYM from the tractor yard back in June of 2023. It’s a great tractor. I did have a problem with the dealer not getting the paper work to me or the bank. I drove for two days to get there and pick it up. They were very rushed to get me out of there. I didn’t even get an owners manual until 3 months later.

We have had our Grand L 3560 for a year now with 130 hours and gone through 3 regen cycles. There have been NO problems with them or the performance of the tractor. To be sure, Kubota had some on some it's early systems on some models, but they Have appeared to solve the issues on their current line up. I'm sure the other brands have addressed rhe issues as well.

My thinking for buying a big frame 25 horse tractor was... I'm buying it mostly for the loader so no dpf or having a dpf the loader lifts the same, but less horsepower and no dpf means cheaper tractor with 1 less part to possibly fail. Also when I need to do pto work then it's good for a diesel to work once in a while because lifting firewood poles doesn't really tax the tractor enough. Just my 2 cents.

This was my thought for the loader lift capacity when I purchased my bad boy 4025 just 2 days ago. I was leaning toward a manufacturer who actually made their own tractor but the deal was hard to pass up. So hopefully I won’t regret my decision in a few years. I came from a JD750 2wd with not loader so definitely will be more beneficial around my property!

I have DPF on my JD 4052. I watch the soot level and let it run a Regen if I am not working it harder. When I am working it, I set it to at least 1500 and let it run. The real secret is to not keep killing the Regen cycle, and mine will go into a forced Regen if I don't let it run to completion.

I own a Kiote 3510 with regen. In five years and over 600 hours I’ve put it through the cycle five times. Three of those were in the first year because I didn’t know that operating the engine below 2200 rpm for long periods creates suet buildup in the exhaust system. It’s been pretty much smooth sailing since. Keep your rpms toward the upper end of the working range as much as possible. Regen won’t really be an issue.

Fortunately in Australia the government has not decided diesel powered tractors are going to destroy the world. A couple of years ago I bought a 52 HP Kubota tractor without any stupid cans under the bonnet nor any strange buttons and lights on the dash. Why didn’t Trump reverse the stupid law brought in for no real reason to handicap tractors? The law doesn’t make sense, tractors need to consume more diesel to keep going with the anti pollution systems.

You might point out that it is against Federal law to disconnect or delete emission controls systems on anything that is sold with emission controls. The EPA has been issuing some huge fines for deleting the systems, especially in the trucking industry and pickups. They are going as far as monitoring Facebook and other social media outlets looking at ads that state an engine has been deleted. I know one individual who advertised a pickup with diesel engine stating it had been deleted that was read by an EPA agent and ended up being fined several thousand dollars for deleting the system

DPF isn’t the issue. The EGR system is what kills the engines and shortens the life of the engine. I’d be totally fine with “clean” exhaust and having to clean the dpf. What I won’t take is dumping exhaust back into the air intake, compromising the oil. It’s not DPF, it’s the EGR to run away from.

OH Yes EGR= Pure "Clogalation ,oil contamination,Super-high heat,&"grinding-compound" in the Entire Engine. DPF's = Oky-doky, along with the High-pressure Common-rail fuel Injection systems = super low fuel consumption & LOTS of POWER.

When he bought his best in the world Mahindra he and the dealer thought that a DPF system was the kiss of death for a tractor. THEY both said that when regen time came you would have to stop working till it finished. YES go look him up. How can you trust someone like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think many people who buy these tractors are older (I'm 71) and are in no hurry. I just idle around. My JD 1023E idles at 1550 which seems fast to me. Of course mine has no DPF so no problem. People will get a tractor for the biggest job they have but most of the time it will not be stressed. Best thing to do is when the tractor calls for a regen is do one of those big jobs.

Great topic, Brock. What data or criteria did the EPA use to decide a cutoff hp rating to require emissions scrubbing? Why 25hp? Was it about volume of sales, like what size tractor will be most prevalent in use in the years ahead? Or how much political haranguing was done behind closed doors with lobbyists? We all know this is about more than saving the planet. See, by creating a threshold of hp rating application of these regs, it has created a wave of buyers seeking to avoid the add-on tech and higher costs. I don't believe all those buyers are just old school tech haters...there's a reason we buyers want simplicity, especially in equipment of great cost. But it has created a forced purchase if someone wants more power...we have no choice. Another related question is just how much carbon and nitrogen oxides do a relatively small number of low horsepower diesel engines really put into the atmosphere, to what detriment...really? If it had ANYTHING to do with planet saving, then the WHO would step in and lockdown India, China, SE Asia, Africa for all their unchecked contributions. Ahhh...politics comes up again...hmmm
@LdHrothgar
@LdHrothgar Жыл бұрын
Good news, since the EPA is a Government agency, all that information is available. DPFs reduce emissions of particulate matter by 85-90% or more, and CO (Carbon Monoxide) by 70-90%, DPF systems have been on off-road machines since the 80's and on-road since 1985... 38+ years. But hey, if you want lung cancer, delete your DPF system and huff all the "coal" you want.

So these passive DPF filters are very effective at collecting and burning Particulates. The primary function of these passive filters is to utilize the normal operating temperature of exhaust to keep up with the accumulation of particulates in the filter. As they react with the filter material and burn, the product gases become less harmful. The regeneration process just helps burn off particulates by increasing temperature and pressure within the filter when the filter becomes clogged. I know a lot about these systems but I don’t necessarily like having them on equipment. The fact is they are here to stay so we have to learn how to live with them or work around them.

My Kioti CX 2510 HST (about 25 HP) uses less than a half gallon diesel fuel per hour of work, with some at 2400 RPM using PTO, some between 1800 to 2200 RPM for loader work or pulling, and some idling. It doesnt really matter the RPM in the working range...same fuel usage. This is my data for about the first couple hundred hours. No use in putting wear on the starter, stopping circulation of fluids, etc, just to shut off the tractor to get off for a few minutes of hand work. Saves nothing to shut off the tractor

Whatever you're gaining in efficiency you will lose in reliability. DPF/Regen machines NEVER see the number of hours that an emissions free diesel will. That means you are replacing your tractor more often. Just look at Diesel pickup trucks, emissions free diesels from the 90s are still on the road with a half million miles meanwhile 2006 and later diesels with that mileage are absolute unicorns.

Just bought a brand new LX 4020 to move snow in mountain resort. dealership put howes diesel treatment in it and sold me a bottle to treat diesel because the temp is around 0 degrees F at 10000 feet elevation. I have 17.2 hours on the tractor and the thing won’t start. tried for 3 days finally put 911 in fuel filter and added a little to the tank as per specs. still won’t start. had to tow it through 4 feet of snow 150 yards as the kubota dealership in my area wanted to charge me 8 hours of labor just to drive out to and from my location because i didn’t buy it from them. took it to a kubota dealership in a different state but only 1.5 hours from me. They told me the DPF is completely clogged due to the fuel. SOOO no warranty and no insurance coverage. $12000.00 to fix. the tractor was only $39000.00 WTF! Kubota service and insurance and Sales all suck. They blame it on the other dealerships, no one is taking responsibility for taking care of tractor. Read your manual and warranty and insurance form. If it is fuel related. NO COVERAGE. DONT BUY Kubota! LIARS and Fraudsters. Does anyone have any insight or help here ? Just lost over $20000 on contracts for snow removal. and looks like i wont be getting this tractor back for at least 3 to 4 weeks, even if i pay the extortion money to fix it. and then im sure it will just gel up again and and wont start and will have to go through this all again in another 17 hours. only about 15 total gallons of fuel have gone through this engine 8 of which was put in by the dealer and i only put 12 oz. of howes in the 10 gallons of ulsd i bout from costco. tier one diesel.

Mechnical injection provides less opeertuny failures with you seek out engines that has 8+ years of production and has stood as a lone engine provided. Please don't buy lower horsepower anything unless you willingly wish to upgrade within the next couple of years.
