Buying a used sailboat, Jeanneau 349

I think these are great boats, there are a lot of people that would love to sail away in either boat. It’s amazing how much these builder’s really have listened to sailors and what we are looking for in a great boat!!! I still am going to buy a 45 ft to a 50ft boat just because of the space they provide, the smaller boats are just a little smaller have the same characteristics as the other boats. I kept rolling out of my berth in rough seas...Lee cloths did no good. Then I started taking Viagra and now I no longer roll out of my bunk! You will never learn tips like this on any other sailing channel!

the 349 is a pretty nice boat, we chartered it a few times. I don't like the 3 cabin layout, due to the small head, that we had all the time, but the deck and cockpit are awesome.

We (single couple) chartered the 349 for a week in the BVI’s. The boat is great, but did not like the main sheet arrangement at all. With a single main sheet and no traveler, it was impossible to get the boom to centerline. Aft cabin was claustrophobic. V-birth was doable, but not ideal. Stand-alone shower was the best feature!

I really was looking at some Hunter sail boats but ever since you pointed out I would be paying for deck space vs water line livable space at a dock they have lost a bit of their luster. Do you still think the Hunters are still a good bang for the buck?

I'm planning on retiring in about 5 years and want to start looking for a good live aboard 35 to 40 ft at a cost of under $50k. I dont think I'll be able to find one near me to fit the bill. If I buy one from the Bahamas or thereabouts, and hire someone to sail it to me would that cost more than it's worth? Are there companies that offer that service and is it expensive? I would really like to be able to talk with you on the subject so when the time is right I'll subscribe and support your channel financially. Thanks in advance for any input.

@@ChasingLatitudes I live just south of Detroit, on the Detroit river. I want to have the boat for 2 years before I retire to make sure I'm properly outfitted, then sail it to the Atlantic ocean and head south towards the Bahamas.

Best thing I've done as far as sailboats was sell my '86 boat and buy one from '06. I can just sail and not have to work on it or worry about it yet.
