So this year i finally bought some stuff there, with the 8% tax free + the 5% coupon i bought 160+ copics, copic papers, blank shikishi, some multiner etc, all of this would have cost me 1 240€ here in France, but it only cost me ~600€ there !!! When I went in Fall of 2023 (Oct) the price was up from 380 to 450¥ but this might have been that I went to a fancier store in Yokohama called Tools. However the exchange rate was fantastic so I still paid about the same. I think Tools is somehow affiliated with the company that makes Copic Markers so even if they cost slightly more I was OK with that.

@LeanneLandArt
@LeanneLandArt 4 жыл бұрын
They are quite cheaper in Japan, especially with the currency exchange. Added with the discount and tax rebate I received for not being a resident of Japan it was a good amount of savings. Our local craft store sells them in my town but they don't have all colours and they're more than double the JPN price without a coupon. I think online is the best way to buy them otherwise. 😊

Buying them individually in Japan worked best for me, because I already had quite a few in my collection so by getting them individually I was able to get exactly what I needed. I'm at the point now where I find if I buy a set I always seem to get some doubles. The discounts that Tokyo Hands had were also great - saving on tax + using their coupon! Although if you're starting out, the sets are commonly around the same price as buying the separately or sometimes with a small savings in price.

Hello Leanne, do you know if it’s possible to buy Copics online from this store in Japan and be delivered in the states? Of course I don’t know how much shipping would be. I found some information and followed the directions,but it didn’t work. I’m not sure if they actually would ship Copics at all. I thought maybe you know something about it. Thank you
@LeanneLandArt
@LeanneLandArt 5 жыл бұрын
I know they did offer international shipping, but when I went on their website to check it out the links they mentioned to connect to for the international shipping were broken. And the main website for the shipping is no longer in service. It feels like they don’t offer it anymore although you could try posting on their Facebook page to see if you get a reply there. If you wanted to order directly from Japan, you could also try the Japan Amazon website, it’s possible they’re available there as well. Good luck in your search!

Shop Leanne Thank you Leanne, I actually checked Amazon Japan, one Copic Sketch is 690 yens which comes to about $6.50, that’s not cheap and I’m sure the shipping is a lot. I found on Rakuten Global website to buy from Japan for $3.99 per marker, but the shipping is still a lot. Have you heard of a site Mercari? They sell everything there, I found Copics for very good deals, but I don’t think I trust that site to buy from. It’s similar to Wish, and I’m skeptical about that too. Of course Copics are expensive on ebay too, and mostly what I’m afraid on these sites is that even if the markers are brand new, who know where they are coming from and if they were sitting for long,the nibs could be dry. The best deal is at Blick, their price is $5.85 per marker, I can build up slowly, buying 3 in a same color family, actually if I spend $35 then it’s free shipping. I think that’s my best option, I just have to be patient :).

I forgot to say, I watched your tutorials, they are excellent, I know you started slow too, so your videos helped me a lot to decide how to go about this, because I’m starting from the beginning,I don’t have any Copics right now. 😊
@LeanneLandArt
@LeanneLandArt 5 жыл бұрын
That’s unfortunate about the price on Amazon Japan, I would’ve expected them to be cheaper there. I haven’t heard of the other site you mentioned and I would be skeptical too. I have bought from Blick before online and was satisfied with the markers I received. You could keep an eye out for sales there or discounted shipping deals. You make a good point about not knowing where the markers are coming from by buying at an unknown store, with the chance the markers could’ve been sitting for a while. Are you in the states? I do recall someone mentioning another site that was pretty affordable in California that they ordered from. I will see if I can find it for you.

Copic markers are the best of the best + the refils and the ability to make your own colors. But in Europe the cost arround 5$ for Ciao (the cheaperst price I could find) and arround 10 $ for the sketch, and refils arround 10$. This is extreme expensive, double the price from the best brands but many pros use them, and make the amateurs like myself to find similar colors. If I was able to do the same trip I could save easily 500$.

@@LeanneLandArt Thank you for your informative videos, for amateurs is extremely expensive. I am currently using Zig Kuretake and Winsor & Newton. The first are like ciao but 138 colors instread of 180 and no refills. W&N are very good but limited in their Brush variant of 72 and they whole range of 200ish. Copics are just the best. Let me re-calculate here. So she actually spent at least CAD 500 (on average/minimum) to fly from Canada to Japan and on top of that, she spent CAD 445 to buy just 85 Copic markers. Hmmm.. That adds up to around CAD 945 (excluding her cost of hotel and food, local travel, and leisure in Japan). So 975-780(her total) = CAD 165. So in order to save just CAD165, she spent almost CAD 1000+ (roughly including all expenses ). Now that is definitely a cheap way to get Copic markers if you close your eyes from all other expenses innit! ;)

Hi Blossom petal, if you order from "Craft on line" in Queensland the Sketch are around $8+ and Chao around $5+. At least last time I checked. I have never bought Copics but was lucky to have around 40 (Chao) colours given to me resently.

Do they also sell each set? A-E? (Sketch)
@LeanneLandArt
@LeanneLandArt 5 жыл бұрын
I can’t confirm every set, but I did notice a lot of sets when I was there, including the larger sets (like the 72 pack). Considering they had everything I’ve ever seen made from Copic (and more) I would bet they have them all. Not all Tokyo Hands carry every single colour, but the one we visited in Tokyo in Shibuya did have everything.

But Ohuhu are pretty much the same, just as vibrant, if not more. Only big difference is the color selection and the awful tops that don’t resemble the actual color of the marker.

did you pack them into the hand luggage?
@LeanneLandArt
@LeanneLandArt 5 жыл бұрын
That’s a really good question! I packed them in my checked luggage because I was concerned about the amount of liquid I would’ve been carrying on-board. Even though it’s in small containers, it would’ve been a large quantity and looked weird I suppose. :) They travelled fine in my checked luggage, with no issues of bleeding or the ink expanding. Everything was all good!

Where do you get Japan money
@LeanneLandArt
@LeanneLandArt 5 жыл бұрын
We have a local foreign exchange office where I live and they have great rates, so I switched my money before I went. The banks offer foreign exchange too, although sometimes it has to be ordered in advance. Japan is mostly a cash society though so it’s hard to use credit cards there unless it’s for big purchases. So I had to take more cash with me than I would typically travel with.

@@nehalsingh3094 That's too bad that there aren't many stationary shops near by where you are. I find I have to order online a lot for the colours I need. If your marker bleeds it might be because it's new and full of ink. Copic suggests taking the caps off both ends for the first little bit to alleviate the pressure and prevent the marker from blotting ink down on your paper. I've done this a bunch and it works. I used "Spectrum Noir" markers in the beginning and I really liked those. If you are near a Michael's store "Artist Loft" has a similar Copic-style marker set that could be worth checking out. I've been told they're decent as well.
