That second PS5 turning off after a while, it seems to me like it has a faulty capacitor. Not a "shorted" capacitor, but a DEGRADED one related to the APU directly. The APU stops responding because the faulty capacitor is falling short of the capacitance it would need to stabilize the voltage going into the APU, so when there's a moment when the APU needs that energy and the capacitor is not delivering it in time, then there's only "dirty" energy going into the APU. So the APU becomes unstable and so the data inside gets corrupted. Causing a kernel panic. Also, the "unexpected power failure" can also be related to a capacitor because of the same reasons. I would look at the capacitors in the phases and/or replace the power supply for a known good one for testing.
@EDOD_EseDelOtroDia8 ай бұрын
It could also be the MOSFETs driver now that I think about it. That would take into account that only some phases seem to be talking all the load. That uneven heat could be the key to that
@Barteks2x3 ай бұрын
My first thought when seeing that error was "replace the capacitors", next try a different power supply. This sort of intermittent issue under load with various power related error almost screams unstable power source somewhere.

That second PS5 was quite odd with those bottom two MOSFETs seemingly working some and then not at all. I wonder if there could be a drive problem between the phase control IC and the DrMOS. Those six should be working in parallel to supply the massive current needed by the APU. I wonder if the APU core voltage is sagging because those MOSFETs are not helping. I wonder a lot. Great job!

@PeterFalconII8 ай бұрын
Misfits will pulse heat if there's some low resistance on another part of the board down from the mosfet. tvs that pulse normally have a bad diode or resistor on the output side. This can cause intermittent faults shutting the system down randomly.

I hope Joey takes another look at the 2nd one. It's infuriating that the seller of first one knew it was that bad and didn't disclose it. So dishonest.

@@MyRegardsToTheDodo Joey obviously didn't know there had been a small fire so that wasn't disclosed unless he just bought it without reading the description, which he's done LoL
@thadofalltrades8 ай бұрын
@@MyRegardsToTheDodo that's the thing though, on eBay there's not a "faulty" category. It's just "for parts, not working" even if it's fixable. So they technically don't have to disclose anything. I find that dishonest personally if they know what's wrong with it. It's like the ones that sell heavily water damaged units and don't disclose it, knowing it's water damaged. Now, you're right, the lower cost shows they are least weren't trying to rip someone off.

I started using the Better way Electronics UART reader and it seems a little more detailed then googling the codes. I am also curious if the Ram has an issues. I watched a video of Toltecmerc where his PS5 was stuttering and not running smoothly and replacing the 8 RAM chips did the trick. Worth a shot

I agree with a lot of comments: check the power supply. I had a pc that turned on fine, would load games and then randomly shit off (especially under stress). After checking every component it turns out my PSU was dying and would shut off under stress..new PSU and problems went away

what are the chances the second PS5 had a faulty PSU?
@brando123438 ай бұрын
that’s my guess too, in my experience faulty power supplies will sometimes work fine to boot and do basic tasks but the second you try and do anything intensive it shuts off
@meszarosmate46298 ай бұрын
It can definitely be the problem, my PC was booting up but no output to the monitor. I tried to change cables, use the VGA ports instead of the DVI, tried without graphics card, using the motherboard outputs, nothing. The pc was running perfectly tho. Turns out my PSU crapped out and didnt deliver enough power for the gpu(its an old 1050, no powerhouse needing 300W) or the apu, replaced it, been working fine ever since. I guess my point is that if you dont give a system enough power it will act up and obviously different systems have different priorities for power, thats the nature of physics. Its definitely a possibility that APU starts draining more power when launching fortnite and the system cuts off.

The flashing of the second mosfet suggests to me that something in that area is failing. I would strongly suggest replacing all the caps on the 2 bottom mosfets to rule it out. Apart from that as others have suggested could be power suppl,y especially considering the randomness of the errors in uart. 2 things to check.

I would definitely try that second ps5 with a different PSU, could easily be a power dropout on the 12v supply, would also explain the lack or pulsing of power on the lower mosfets

In the case of the second ps5. I think that could be a psu problem as well. I hade it with my pc once that when I started a game my pc shut down because the power supply was damaged. When the comonents draw more power it could not handle it propery and shut down just like that ps5.

@justinc99918 ай бұрын
You’ll need an oscilloscope to measure the frequency on each coil and see which one is different…. the frequency is generated by the mosfet controller (phase controller). So you can try and swap the phase controller. Regarding the 2 bottom mosfets that doesn’t look they are getting hot, they might be “used on demand” when the apu needs more power phase controller will activate those mosfets also. This is why you see them glowing from time to time. In full load, apu will ask for power and they will be activated by phase controller. Good luck!
