Try sourcing those roof bar keys through Thule. My OEM VW roof bars for my MK4 didn't come with keys so I ordered pre-cut keys with the same numbers on them as the lock cylinder and it worked out perfect!

Stumbled on this video because I recently found '06 Touareg for sale here, feels very, very solid (only driven 60 k milies) when I drive it, but I have heard about the running cost. I am annoyed of how much I want it, but at the same time it ticks all the boxes of what I want in an SUV. I will be looking forward to seeing upcoming videos of the Touareg :)

I had a glove box door latch problem on my 2004 Touareg...had to peel apart the door as it is glued together...re-secured one of the two springs and re-glued the door together... getting the two release mechanisms to release the glove box door was a chore, though...bought decals for the steering wheel & AC unit...they look great too! I love my Treg! Between this channel and TFL (and others), my Touareg might be increasing in value! Thanks guys!

I sold my V8 Touareg and the door pulls are plastic and breaks off fairly easy. The rear hatch switch will develop a short in the switch no matter what you do. We could never fix the leaky sunroof drains. And last but not least. An electrical issue with the brakes. Still stopped 99% of the time. Overall never got stuck and would get another one.

Aloha Mike! (Yeah, I'm in Hawaii!) My neighbor brought over a friend's 2004 Touareg last September, she knew I was looking for some cheap transpo to flip-I had no clue what the heck this Touareg thing with the V-Dub logo on it really was at all! It had 110,000 miles on her, but everything worked on it, well kept (one owner) new rubber all around, so I bought it for $2500! Only after I did some research, did I learn Learn that I had a real 4x4 (center & rear Diff lock)!!! NO WAY! All those You Tube vids of this beast outperforming land Rover and Wranglers...Well, I had to see for myself! My Treg low-crawled up & down anything I put in front of it...after picking up the pieces of my brain that were blown from that experience, I couldn't part with her... and what's funny is that I have not seen another Treg on the road here EVER...that really brings home the idea that this vehicle is special & unique...so happy with my Treg after one year of ownership! ALso, my car is a Wednesday car-made on a Wednesday...I really think that is why she's still low-crawling today! Best car experience ever! With the help of Bentley Publishing, I got all the tech support possible to maintain this very wrenchable beast...F%$# the dealerships, am I right? Damn-skippy! Aloha, bro!

We did an entire shade tree engine/transmission swap in one and it's still a bit of work in progress but it's coming along, the Treg was in such poor shape. On my other Treg we also redid all the interior labels and much of the scratched interior pieces as well, made it very livable.

I can't remember the last time I bought a 'dub that ran. LoL... I just picked up a cherry 2008 Jetta 2.0T , towed it home and had it running in about 3 hours. Some cheap parts sourced from everywhere across North America and even to China to fix deficiencies and now it's my everyday driver that I'm into completely for about $1400 (includes all parts and initial car purchase) and people drool over it when it's all shined up... 6 months ago I Bought a B5 Passat 1.8t for $150 in great shape but owner thought timing belt broke.... went to his house to buy it armed with my tickle trunk of parts. paid him,got my receipt and signed over the ownership to me and 10 minutes later I was driving it away while the owner stood there just staring at me open mouthed. LoL... Checked it it out for sludge and oil coking and it was clean as a whistle. I went through the provided service invoices and found it had a new oil pickup and pump installed 2 years ago as a preventive measure and lots of routines done to it.... Did a good once over on my hoist, changed the oil and replaced the timing belt, tensioner, rollers and water pump and then sold it for $1500 a few days later to a buddy of mine. It's super easy for techs to make money making runners out of the average persons mechanical nightmare.

This is how I got my last 4 cars for cheap. I buy old VAGs with a long list of faults on the local safety and emissions test, source the parts for cheap, fix them and drive it for a few years until I get a better deal. My current car is a 2001 Jetta, that I bought for $1400 (even 20 year old rust buckets are this expensive in my country). Spent about $200 on timing belt kit and a few other parts, fixed it and could've sold it for almost triple of my investment... Love it too much to sell though, so I'm gonna keep it until I go EV...

What are your thoughts on 2010 Touareg 3.0 TD with 110000mile on it. worth buying?
@panzerveps
@panzerveps 5 жыл бұрын
The engine is quite solid, except for the intake manifolds. The most common problems with any Touareg is suspension related. Air compressor etc, bushings with seized bolts etc...
@shanet7511
@shanet7511 5 жыл бұрын
@@panzerveps How much do the intake manifolds cost? I'm thinking about buying a Q7 TDI but will be putting 40k miles per year on it (mostly HWY)
@panzerveps
@panzerveps 5 жыл бұрын
@@shanet7511 the main problem is the linkage between the actuators motors and the flaps (don't know the proper English name for them), and you can get a cheap repair kit for it. I'd recommend spending a bit extra on a proper 3rd party intake. Give me a couple of days, and I could quote you the Norwegian price for replacing them. Check out DiagnoseDan for a replacement video on the 2.7 tdi, which is basically the same engine.

What do y’all think getting the headliner repaired is going to cost? Does the upholster remove the whole headliner?
@lorrinrodrigueshs-bcp192
@lorrinrodrigueshs-bcp192 5 жыл бұрын
I redid the headliner on my 2004 Touareg...gotta pull out the one-piece fiberglass monstrosity, strip off the material, and scrape off the goo that used to be the foam between the material and fiberglass...I just used green canvas from Home Depot and a s#%#load of contact cement...it looks great...was very labor-intensive...but cost me less than $40 semolians in the end...I love my Treg!

@@ogalief omg where do I start. 1st in was leaking oil really bad so I spent a mint trying to pinpoint where it was going from. Replaced almost every oil gasket to hear from the mechanic it has to be the upper oil pan my friend! This means dropping the engine and hours of shop time. Short story.. it was the oil cooler all along. Found that out when it blew while driving and dumping all oil over the road way. Got it repaired some $1500.00 later. Now a month later the the check engine light came in and the EPC light. Fuel system codes. Started with fuel filter, replaced fuel pumps, now looking at high side fuel sensor. Intakes were removed to find a piece of plastic broken off that was about to go into the engine. Not sure if the plastic is from timing chain guide rails or what! The saga continues... if I get it running properly enough to sell we may have to part ways and I pass it on to some other unfortunate soul.
