Only after I did some research, did I learn Learn that I had a real 4x4 (center & rear Diff lock)!!! NO WAY! All those You Tube vids of this beast outperforming land Rover and Wranglers...Well, I had to see for myself! My Treg low-crawled up & down anything I put in front of it...after picking up the pieces of my brain that were blown from that experience, I couldn't part with her... and what's funny is that I have not seen another Treg on the road here EVER...that really brings home the idea that this vehicle is special & unique...so happy with my Treg after one year of ownership! ALso, my car is a Wednesday car-made on a Wednesday...I really think that is why she's still low-crawling today! Best car experience ever! With the help of Bentley Publishing, I got all the tech support possible to maintain this very wrenchable beast...F%$# the dealerships, am I right? Damn-skippy! Aloha, bro!

I can't remember the last time I bought a 'dub that ran. LoL... I just picked up a cherry 2008 Jetta 2.0T , towed it home and had it running in about 3 hours. Some cheap parts sourced from everywhere across North America and even to China to fix deficiencies and now it's my everyday driver that I'm into completely for about $1400 (includes all parts and initial car purchase) and people drool over it when it's all shined up... 6 months ago I Bought a B5 Passat 1.8t for $150 in great shape but owner thought timing belt broke.... went to his house to buy it armed with my tickle trunk of parts. paid him,got my receipt and signed over the ownership to me and 10 minutes later I was driving it away while the owner stood there just staring at me open mouthed. LoL... Checked it it out for sludge and oil coking and it was clean as a whistle. I went through the provided service invoices and found it had a new oil pickup and pump installed 2 years ago as a preventive measure and lots of routines done to it.... Did a good once over on my hoist, changed the oil and replaced the timing belt, tensioner, rollers and water pump and then sold it for $1500 a few days later to a buddy of mine. It's super easy for techs to make money making runners out of the average persons mechanical nightmare.

This is how I got my last 4 cars for cheap. I buy old VAGs with a long list of faults on the local safety and emissions test, source the parts for cheap, fix them and drive it for a few years until I get a better deal. My current car is a 2001 Jetta, that I bought for $1400 (even 20 year old rust buckets are this expensive in my country). Spent about $200 on timing belt kit and a few other parts, fixed it and could've sold it for almost triple of my investment... Love it too much to sell though, so I'm gonna keep it until I go EV...

With that being said. Stay away! Got a 07 V8. Love the vehicle and was proud to have one until....the Bill's started rolling in. As I type it sits at the mechanics shop going on two weeks now.

My condolences. Blew 4 grand in repairs and maintenance on mine over the summer. Still needs some things fixed. What’s wrong with yours?

@@ogalief omg where do I start. 1st in was leaking oil really bad so I spent a mint trying to pinpoint where it was going from. Replaced almost every oil gasket to hear from the mechanic it has to be the upper oil pan my friend! This means dropping the engine and hours of shop time. Short story.. it was the oil cooler all along. Found that out when it blew while driving and dumping all oil over the road way. Got it repaired some $1500.00 later. Now a month later the the check engine light came in and the EPC light. Fuel system codes. Started with fuel filter, replaced fuel pumps, now looking at high side fuel sensor. Intakes were removed to find a piece of plastic broken off that was about to go into the engine. Not sure if the plastic is from timing chain guide rails or what! The saga continues... if I get it running properly enough to sell we may have to part ways and I pass it on to some other unfortunate soul.

They are super reliable if maintained properly but they usually fall into the hands of second or third owners who don't maintain them and don't realise how special they are

Off road!? Man, you guys should air it out on bags!! All that wheel well space can fit some sick wheels with lots of drop! Plus, you mainly only see 'Tiggers' on air, Touareg slammed would be different!

Naw that's ghetto. Plus big wheels Touareg already exists. It's called Cayenne GTS.

Same reason I got rid of my 4.2 L Q7... 2 years and $8,000 later ✌🏼let the next guy worry about it

How was the Q7 outside of the engine? I'm thinking about purchasing a TDI Q7 but I'll be putting like 40k miles per year (75% HWY) though

Shane T I loved it besides the upkeep, the thing was a beast in the snow, I live in Minnesota, so that was huge for me. I actually really miss it lol

I encountered the same problem with missing roof rack keys with my ‘04. You don’t have to change them out. Contact Thule and you can get two keys for ~$5 and save some money overall.
