True. All that was needed for the donut she got was for it to be popped in the mic for 10 seconds and it comes out just the same as when the "hot" Krispy Kreme sign is on. Only difference is that it better be eaten quick because once stale KK donuts are microwaved, they becomes harder than they were when they were simply stale.

I am a manager of Krispy Kreme and can say she is talking out of her arse. The glaze has no wax. just water, sugar and stabilizer. The proofing process is not done by the maker but in a machine, where it is timed to perfection and the heat/humidity is monitored to the degree. Also when she was talking about the line in the other doughnut, she had no clue how it is made. Its because 1 side is cooked in oil and then flipped so the other side can cook. Nothing to do with proofing.

Ross Bucklar It does have to do a little with proofing. A non properly proofed donut could be too dense and sink a bit in the oil, so the less cooked center line doesnt show up

Simply put, chain company doughnuts are all right, but doughnuts coming from a small-business doughnut shop are wonderfully superior. There's a little doughnut shop in my town that makes and sells awesome, non-artificial-tasting doughnuts that are massive, super sweet, soft, and just heavenly. If you ever get the chance to visit Williamsburg, Virginia (VA), then stop by Emily's Doughnuts if you can. Just if you happen to have the chance one day. \(^_^)

Krispy Kreme fresh from an actual Krispy Kreme store is nothing like the ones you buy packaged at the supermarket. We used to have a store in Manhattan and it was divine...Sadly, it closed after 10 years or so. I remember seeing a KK store while in Maui and got ourselves a box of fresh donuts. We ate a dozen between the two of us and thinking how much I've missed them since the NYC store closed down.

Near where I live, I would say we get the best crispy kreme I have had . (Because the shop has a little factory thing where you see it get made, and sometimes a light on a sign will light up, which means you get ones that were just made for free. Pretty cool if I do say so myself)

People need to stop hating. She's a professional baker. She knows the specifics of a donut. Most people know a donut because of the hole. She looked for smell, texture, the freaking rise line from the yeast. Plus this is an opinion piece. Her opinion might be different from another professional baker. And it's is obviously different from most of yours. And FYI there's a saying never trust a skinny chef. This is not always a rule of thumb but that is the saying. So please respect her as a person even if you don't agree or like her. There's no reason to put hateful sayings on the internet that never go away.

Honestly, I can relate to her. I'm not a professional baker, but there's this little doughnut shop in my town that makes massive homemade doughnuts, and they are wonderfully superb. I recently grabbed a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts from the store (because the other doughnut shop was closed. :'< ) and honestly, I couldn't remember why I had loved Krispy Kreme doughnuts before. The only time a plain-glaze Krispy Kreme doughnut tastes amazing is when it's fresh off the belt-- they actually taste like I'm eating a baby angel or something, but only when fresh. Dunkin' Doughnuts has also gone downhill since I was little. I remember the days when Dunkin's doughnuts were big and generously coated with icing/glaze. Now they skimp out on the glaze, the doughnuts are just as small as Krispy Kreme's, and they're just not that great anymore. People, stick to local, small-business doughnut shops if you can. They really are the best.

Ceci La la la It's silly to follow a "professional baker's" opinion. You don't even know what she does? Does she work in a restaurant? Does she make donuts for a living? Does she work in a french patisserie? Does she do bread? What? I don't know. As someone who is a baker, this rubs me the wrong way. I don't make donuts for a living, but I can do any of the other aforementioned things at any given time. But in all seriousness, if you're coming to America and want to try donuts, I wouldn't get a cheap, grocery store bought one; you'll just be disappointed. If you can get to a Krispy Kreme storefront that makes the donuts and get it hot off the line, by all means, do that; you will not be disappointed. We have them all over the place here in North Carolina since that's where Krispy Kreme first opened, so I have no idea what it's like anywhere else in the country (in the case of this video, all of the way on the other side of the country in California?).... In any case, you do you. :) It's just a Buzzfeed video, after all. :)

I doubt its a true doughnut regardless, she made a valid point bout the texture of the crumb on how it lacks volume. Even its old, it should hold its crumb well, that's a standard for breads in general. Just cause it appeals to the general consumer doesn't make it Michelin star status. She offered professional standard grading and that's a separate world from general populace standards. But Krispy Kreme clearly did its job right to attract the general masses and please them so that's all it should matter to you. It taste good to you? Yes? Then there's no real problem.
