America is the "melting pot" we have a variety of different cultures so I don't see a problem with it. In Dallas I can get real Mexican style tacos and 'american' tacos, you can find authentic Foods and Americanized food, all counties do that. All countries adapt popular internationalized dishes to the palate of the region.

The sterotype about a certain ethnicity being hairy changes as you go around the world. In some parts of Europe they will say Sicilian women are hairy or Arab women.

Now, India is not a "poor country" but its riches are not well distributed between the population, and it has one of the worst standard lifestyles of compared to many oriental or western countries. The less money you have the less you spend on luxuries to take care of yourself and look pretty. So it makes sense that the people you saw on the streets were not as pretty as the girls in the hotel as I assume if they can afford an hotel they can also afford to spend their money on less important things. It also depends on the society, for example South Korea is a quite judgmental country when it comes to looks, so even people who do not fit the standard still try their best to be pleasant looking. At the end of the day, it's truly all about money.
