It's because younger people are less secure with their culture so they want to assert that they are actively a part of their culture and know things about it, while the older people are very secure with the fact that they're Chinese, like they don't need to let anyone know, they just are. Which makes them more open to trying new things because they see it as a compliment to their culture that we tried to make their food instead of an insult.

or because they have parents and grandparents who cook Authentic Chinese cuisines and can tell the difference. Younger people tend to be more RUDE so even if it's not bad they will harshly criticize the Food if doesn't taste *'exactly'* like what they are used to. I eat at Panda Express all the time [❤LOVE IT!!💘] and have yet to see Chinese customers. Maybe it's just a coincidence or just on the days I go there.

The older people were so sweet. They were still respectful even when they didn't like it. The younger people act like they eat 5 star Chinese food all the time and were handed dog food to try. They could learn something from their elders!

+iwayovelayouyay123 This may make some people mad but I think it's because the younger ones are too Americanized. I'm sure they were born and raised in America therefore they are a lot more critical than the older people who I assume were born and mostly raised in china. It's a generational/cultural thing

I swear the younger ones are just extremely picky and calling it off just because it's not from China or Authentic. Food that's not authentic does not equate to it tasting bad. The older people seemed to like it and they've probably had much more experience with Chinese cuisine, therefore, I believe their opinions hold much more credibility than these brats.

Well, the teens are clearly American Chinese, not truly Chinese like the elders are. However, the 100% Chinese people (the older ones) would obviously know a lot about Chinese cuisine and claim that Panda Express is fairly decent and relates closely to that of true Chinese food,, while the young American Chinese teens are criticizing it left and right. They've probably never even had authentic Chinese food, yet they feel the need to validate their ethnicity (like Alleson Estar said) and make fun of Americas attempt to imitate their culture. The real Chinese folks compare Panda Express to their knowledge of Chinese food and give a positive reaction. But the kids who probably know nothing about authentic Chinese food already begin their rave of critics my befire they even try it.

The thing about Chinese food is that it's all freestyle, which is why I'm not surprised that the elders were a little more open to the Americanized versions of it. In China, a dish with the same name could be entirely different in two different places - and they're used to it. It's an improvisational food, using a wide variety of ingredients available at each location to try and produce whatever tastes best. The kids, who did not grow up with that mentality, would therefore be more inclined to define one specific taste as "Fried Rice" and to dislike anything deviating from that taste. That's a very western approach to recipes.

@headrockbeats
@headrockbeats 9 жыл бұрын
Leigh Tkd Hmmm might be, but I think it's more to do with the fact that American food (well, western food in general) is much more uniform, and that includes Chinese food in America. For example, Sweet & Sour Chicken would taste roughly the same anywhere you eat it in America, especially if you always eat it from the same chain store. In China, it could very well taste pretty different in two restaurants _within the same city_. And that's considered _normal_. Westerners love putting foods into easily-recognizable categories, and even sub-dividing categories when two similar foods diverge in taste or ingredients from one another, even a little. That's why, for example, there are so many names for different kinds of pizza (neapolitan style, sicilian style, roman style, new york style, deep dish, pizza bianca, and so on), when it's all basically cheese on bread. In a Chinese restaurant in China, the menu will rarely specify any details about a dish - it will call out a generalized name, and let the customer decide whether they trust the cook to make it taste good (also, photographs of the food are very very common, to give customers an idea of what they're going to get). There are also many restaurants (especially in rural areas) where there is no menu at all - you pick the ingredients yourself from a display shelf, and the cook tries to make whatever you picked taste good. It's an improvisational approach to foods, that makes people much more open to dishes that are very different from one place to the next. The kids would not have that kind of approach.

Your sense of smell and taste change as you age. Between the ages of 40 and 50, the number of taste buds decreases, and the rest begin to shrink, losing mass vital to their operation. After age 60, you may begin to lose the ability to distinguish the taste of sweet, salty, sour, and bitter foods.

When the grandma goes "Just American style Chinese food, you can't expect it to be the same as our traditional stuff." She gets the nature of food crossing over into other cultures. Of course it's not gonna be the same.

I don't cook identically as my mom iv altered my ways and recipes. from both my mom and grandma having living with both women my whole childhood and into adulthood. and as a side note. both sides of my grandparents don't speak English but they understand it. it's hard for older people to learn another language.

I'm Canadian Chinese, I once did a survey at the office with coworkers to determine if there was any correlation between rest-room cleanliness and the quality of food. Several of my Chinese friends found that the more unkept the washroom was, the better the taste of their food. And I'm referring to restaurants in Toronto's main China Town district and not the fast food chains of Chinese food. The survey results confirm what my friend and I observed with the exception of one coworker.

The younger generations always have something bad to say about the authenticity of their food. But the older generations gladly eat the food and call it tasty even if it's not as "authentic".

The older ones are the only ones being honest. The food tastes good. The younger ones seem to just want to ignore the fact that the food is tasty and just blindly say anything that is not authentic is crap. It is like they feel like they have to prove that they are "really Chinese".

I like how all the old people with experience and wisdom approved of most of the meals and even went as far as to call them “authentic tasting”, whereas the gen Z/millennial kids kept regurgitating all the negative things other Americans have to say about Panda Express. I’ll listen to an older wise person before I listen to some gen z/millennial kids spew crap out of their mouths.
