It also shows that anything can happen and life never stops surprising you. It's one of the best stories out there!

That's why you should never regret any events in your life, good or bad. You call him lucky, right? But the story starts with his phone being stolen. Life is not simple, good things do not always lead to good consequences, same as bad things not always lead to bad consequences. There is no pattern. Therefore, whenever something bad happens to you, do not get upset... who knows, maybe that bad event will lead you to the best story and experience of your life.

For some reason, Chinese like taking pictures with foreigners regardless of who you are (as long as you look different in some way I think). I'm 6ft 2 / brown...We went to multiple places and in rural areas, had mid-aged women taking photos...and couples taking photos next to me and then in Shanghai, this guy stops me and wanted to take a photo - Generally, the older Chinese who probably have not travelled out of China (I'm guessing?) tend to do that. They're very happy people - China is a lot of fun (if you don't get involved in the politics/government stuff and stick to experiences with normal people and not merchants in China)

This reminds me of a Chinese fable: Sāi Wēng lived on the border and he raised horses for a living. One day, he lost one of his prized horses. After hearing of the misfortune, his neighbor felt sorry for him and came to comfort him. But Sāi Wēng simply asked, “How could we know it is not a good thing for me?” After a while, the lost horse returned and with another beautiful horse. The neighbor came over again and congratulated Sāi Wēng on his good fortune. But Sāi Wēng simply asked, “How could we know it is not a bad thing for me?” One day, his son went out for a ride with the new horse. He was violently thrown from the horse and broke his leg. The neighbors once again expressed their condolences to Sāi Wēng, but Sāi Wēng simply said, “How could we know it is not a good thing for me?” One year later, the Emperor’s army arrived at the village to recruit all able-bodied men to fight in the war. Because of his injury, Sāi Wēng’s son could not go off to war and was spared from certain death.

The Chinese people use social media in the way it was meant to... use it to bring people together. Western societies use it in its worst incarnation: cutting themselves off, bullying, hacking, etc. This shows the stark contrast in cultures but also the similarities in people and personal experiences. When we share our lives, we find that we are more similar than different- We all enjoy food, love our families and friends, find the same situations funny or heartbreaking; we all share similar struggles as well. If we would all take this story and see that every single life is a series of tiny decisions that brought us to the people we love the most, and to the place we are in life then we could see, at least in part, that the beautiful tapestry that is our shared lives is made up of individual threads that are each as important as the whole.
