Of course a IV works, a hangover is basically dehydration. You can save your money and pain if you drink a lot of water before you go out, drink water as you party. Take a pain killer before you go to sleep, and drink water the next day and you'll be fine. I tend to drink my empty calories, so a nutritionist told me only to drink water for 30 days. Right as the time was ending I went on vacation. Because I was already in the habit of only drinking water I continued to mostly drink it, and when we went out I was the only person who didn't get hungover at all because I was so well hydrated.

NEVER take a painkiller when you have alcohol in your body, If you have a headache after drinking to much and you take a painkiller when you get home it will be 10 times worse!

EloiseInParis For me, I drink 1 for 1 with water and alcohol, usually more water. Doesn't stop me from getting terrible, TERRIBLE hangovers where I spend my morning sleeping, crying, and vomiting. I have a feeling this IV treatment wouldn't work. I also get migraines, so I am wondering if a hangover triggers a migraine and makes it worse--basically the same symptoms.

greedymuppet Migraines are already a symptom of hangovers. Sounds to me like your biggest problem is vitamin deficit, not so much dehydration. Pop a couple extra multivitamins before you go out drinking and see if that helps at all.

greedymuppet did you know, migraines aren't headaches? a headache is only a symptom of one. I get migraines and I don't get a headache with it. I get numb in my arms, legs, and face and often lose vision and I get nauseated . My doctor ruled out stroke. (the more you know haha)

Miss Amanda I work in a pharmacy at a hospital and I have to make these, we call them "banana bags" but it's basically fluids and a mix of vitamins. They are given for several different reasons. You can go to an ER to get one after getting drunk but it's very expensive and I wouldn't recommend it. So no worries these weren't just made to "cure" hangovers.

You are just as dumb as macie if you think drinking has no consequences because of IV therapy. There's the risk of alcohol poisoning, later health risks in life, DWIs, impairment, the list goes on. IVs have been in use for a long ass time and everything has it bad side. You're right. NS does make a big difference. Banana bags (ns with other stuff) does even more in that dehydration also effects electrolyte balance and ns doesn't do anything to resolve that.

5 yr medic and 10yrs. in the ER NS and rally packs have about the same effect on your average person. I'd prefer the rally pack( NS with thiamine, magnesium sulfate, MVI etc..) for an alcoholic patient.

***** unless you are a heavy drinker with a PmHx of alcohol abuse, the "banana" bag is a waste of resources. NS does just as well for any hangovers, if anything Gatorade is probably better and cheaper. You would only see thiamine deficiency and hypomagnesemia in people who abuse alcohol on a daily basis (Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome and impaired magnesium reabsorption in the kidneys). Even then thiamine deficiency and hypomagnesemia is not due to alcohol abuse alone, but rather malnutrition associated with the alcohol abuse.

+MsRainbow Brite It definitely keeps you from the nausea but you always kind of feel bad the next day. Best thing to do is stay hydrated. Sober up and drink lots of water before you go to sleep

Notice Shane never complained about being hungover or at any point seems hungover. That's because demons have a much higher alcohol tolerance than humans. He also immediately gets very excited at the sight of Jen's "precious blood" and doesn't even seem to notice when the IV needle penetrates his skin. I guess he was much less careful about hiding the signs of being a demon back then, before anyone suspected him.
