"Never give up. Never surrender." Fun Fact: Tim Allen admitted that he was quite star-struck when he met Sigourney Weaver, as he's a huge fan of Alien (1979). Allen even asked Weaver to sign some of his Alien Franchise memorabilia between takes. She ultimately did. Expanded Role Fact: Laliari is the first main role Missi Pyle landed in a feature film. Her role was expanded after the producers noticed Sigourney Weaver was the only female main character. Red Shirt Lives Fact: Despite frequent whining about his character Crewman Number Six being expendable and going to die, Guy Fleegman (Sam Rockwell) is the only crew member not to be shot and killed by Sarris (Robin Sachs) during his surprise assault towards the end.

Tony Shalhoub's character (the "engineer" or Scotty character from the original Star Trek) was originally supposed to be stoned on weed and those scenes were cut, and that's why he acted so weirdly chill all the time. The entire movie was cut down from a PG-13 to receive a PG rating prior to release and so some swearing was also noticeably over dubbed. The most obvious looping was Sigourney Weaver's "f--k that!" being changed to "screw that!"

Thanks. Saved me the typing. I have to say, there's something about it NOT being TOO obvious that makes it that much funnier. The entire concept of making him the complete opposite of "Scottie" is just brilliant. "CAPIN'!!! Ah cahn't push her any harrrder. She can't take much MORRRRRE!" "Hey guys... I just wanted you to know that... the reactors won't take it... the ship is breaking apart and all that... Just FYI..."

@@chrispittman8854 I think it had to do with the choice to shave the movie down to a PG rated film. You cannot have obvious drug use on screen in a G or PG movie. One could argue that making his character's motivations more ambiguous with the edits made it better.

Enrico Colantoni, who played Mathezar, tried out his own idea of how the Thermians moved and talked, during his audition. The producers loved it, and had the rest of the actors playing Thermians follow his example. The Thermians resemble giant Octopi - so different from humans that they would have entirely different natural ways of moving, of expressing joy, surprise, shock, appreciation, etc. Therefore, their 'appearance generators' would constantly be trying to do something that's impossible: to represent them as humans, moving the way humans would in real time, when their true form underneath is not moving or gesturing in a remotely similar way. The Thermians 'should' move exactly the way they're depicted as moving in the film: awkward and 'unnatural' walking, clapping, smiling, etc. Why do other Thermians seem to have a better grasp of English than Mathezar? Everyone brings something different to the table - even if you're a Thermian. Mathezar wasn't as adept as the others at learning English, but was able to adapt to the Omega-13 Rewind situation enough that he could clobber Sarris when he needed to. •••• The fans played by Justin Long and the other kids were perfectly aware that 'Galaxy Quest' was 'just a TV show,' but welcomed any opportunity to think about and to live in that world. As with fans of many franchises (but especially Star Trek), they fell in love with the combo of lovable characters, technology and 'limitless future.' Any 'rational' person would want their 'pretend-alternate world' to actually exist. (A normal person has a fantasy life). Then, Jason Nesmith, the star actor playing their ultimate hero, Captain Taggart, addressed him directly, in a private conversation, telling him seriously and specifically, "It's all real, and I need YOUR help." Is Brandon's reaction in that moment, with his hero 'giving him permission' to believe what he desperately wants to be true, all that unreasonable? (Even for those who would answer, 'yes,' all would still agree that Brandon's "Oh-my-God, I knew it!" is damn funny.)

A few things with this film, while there are a few nods and references to Star Trek: The Next Generation, but for the most part, it's a kindhearted parody of the original Star Trek series and it's cast. George Takei, aka Sulu, even described this film as "A Chillingly Realistic Documentary", because oh how well it depicted the struggles, many of the original series cast faced, from being typecast and struggling to find work outside the franchise, the personality conflicts between cast mates and even hating the character that you are famous for, which was particularly true for Leonard Nimoy, aka Spock. He struggled for a longtime, before coming to peace and embracing the character. For quite a few of the cast members, both original and the newer iterations of Star Trek, it wasn't until they started doing the conventions and hearing from fans, who were inspired to become, doctors, NASA engineers and physicists, or who credited them or the show for their lifelong love of science, that they really appreciated their characters and the franchise as a whole. Another little tid bit, Patrick Stewart, aka Captain Jean Luc Picard from Next Generation, initially refused to see this movie, thinking that it was just going to be a mean-spirited roast or a silly and stupid parody of all things Star Trek. Thankfully his co-star from Next Generation, Jonathan Frakes, hounded and pestered him into watching it, he ended up loving the movie and was the one laughing the loudest in the theater.

In the Original Star Trek series of the 1960s Captain Kirk would lose his shirt due to fight scenes on certain episodes or be in sickbay doing a physical. The tuck and roll with Tim Allen was giving homage to Kirk's tuck and roll in one episode called Arena. And like Tom Cruise the original Captain Kirk did run and ducts were used as well in a few episodes.

This is a perfect film. It has just about everything - action, romance, adventure, mystery, humor, comedy, and drama. Aria, your reaction was great, all the better in fact because you were unsure if you were watching the right thing. So you were really paying attention looking for stuff. Thus, you got to enjoy all the little bits in it. If you were familiar with Star Trek it would have been significantly better for you, but it stands alone well enough. If you do get around to TOS a lot of things from here will click into place. (As an original Trekkie from 1966 I do recommend it.). Anyway, lots of fun watching.

I told you you would like it, Aria! This movie came out when I was a child and I was confused a bit and I had no idea what I was watching. But I still enjoyed it just because it was so hilarious. And now it's a family favorite, one we constantly quote in our every day lives. Glad you finally got around to it. Although I'm not a Star Trek fan, I know enough to give you a little context. Tim Allen is basically supposed to be William Shatner, with his big ego and really full of himself. And Alan Rickman is supposed to be Leonard Nimoy, a classically trained thespian who struggled to break typecasting after playing a Vulcan. And the two are kinda acting out the tense relationship that Shatner and Nimoy had behind the scenes, largely because of Shatner's ego. Also "Never give up, never surrender" is a play on the popular Star Trek catchphrase, "Live long and prosper". Hope that clears a couple things up. BTW, you have really beautiful eyes.

this is more of a salute to instead of a parody of Star Trek the original series (STOS). Star Trek's famous line is said by their half alien bridge crew member Mr, Spock. his mother was from Earth. his father from the planet Vuclan "Live long and prosper." Lenard Nemoy, the actor who played Mr. Spock, styed in make-up. sometimes even at his home. he was trying to get a feel for the character. due to Nemoy's efforts most of the Vulcan culture became Star Trek lore. William Shatner played the captain of the Star Ship Enterprise. once at asci-fi convention he lost his cool. telling the fans :...to get a life." not realizing the show had, and still does, inspire(d) many to become scientist and astronauts.

"Galaxy Quest": The best "Star Trek" movie that Paramount didn't make. Yes, you don't need to know about TV "Star Trek" to enjoy the movie. I missed the video game arcade wave, but Ralph's back story drew me into "Wreck It Ralph" (2012). I've read that Sigourney Weaver signed on specifically to play a Blonde. She felt her "IQ level dropping" whenever she wore it...all the way home.;) Would I go to see a "Galaxy Quest" or "Firefly" reboot movie? Why not, as long as Disney and KK are kept an Astronomical Unit away from them. Replace Alan Rickman as "Dr. Lazarus"? Daniel Radcliffe played "Weird Al " Yankovic and Benedict Cumberbatch played "Khan Noonien Singh," so they can "do Comedy." As for the late, great "Shepherd Book," of "Firefly," how about "Shepherd Jubal Early"?

I've seen this movie a bunch of times and also several reactions to it, and this is the first time I noticed something. The Thermians say that they "programmed the food synthesizer for each of you based on the regional menu of your birthplace." And Dr. Lazarus had a bowl of live blood ticks. So... the Thermians made a "food synthesizer" that can literally create life? 😲 That's pretty impressive! And also, if that's food from the regional menu of his birthplace, does that imply that there's really a race of aliens out there that look like Dr. Lazarus? How did I never notice this before?

Well, my memory is fuzzy on the details, but in earlier versions of the script, his character was supposed to be very blatantly high for pretty much the whole movie. He was even supposed to have little weed edibles he'd keep snacking on throughout certain scenes, I think. As much as I wish they'd been allowed to keep that in, I do also kind of like the idea that he's "just like that". 😂

Having some familiarity with a few episodes of the cheesy original '60s STAR TREK series, might have been helpful. But the example of the fictitious and schlocky Galaxy Quest TV that they showed at the start of this movie is really all you need to know. And this movie being 1,000 better than any episode from that old show will save you from ever having to see it.

The Assembly Cut of "Alien3" has fewer plot holes than the broadcast version. As for "Alien Resurrection," it's kind of a dark comedy, where "Ripley 8" and the disguised Android come to terms about the situation.
