In Australia, because of our consumer protection laws, car companies cannot void the warranty on the car if you service it somewhere other than the dealer, as long as you follow their service recommendations, as detailed in the owners manual. Also, even if you make a mistake or cause a problem in one part of the car, the warranty stands for other parts, i.e. failing to check and change brake fluid will not void warranty on the battery as they are separate parts of the car.

Love the design and the Seal seems like a great car overall. Really like the white interior one also. Really curious to see the prices for it here in Sweden. Love my BYD Atto 3 🙂

Atto 3 is significantly more expensive in Sweden, €38k in Denmark, €45k in Sweden which is very abnormal. Denmark lowered the price about €6k recently because they didn't sell any in Denmark. Generally EVs in Sweden is 10-15% cheaper than Denmark, BYD Atto 3 is the first EV I've seen thats cheaper in Denmark. Byd Seal in Denmark is €46k for RWD and €51k for AWD. So I would guess somewhere around there. But the EV market in Denmark is extremely competitive, Tesla price here is so low that it basically disrupted the entire Danish car industry.

Yeah, yeah, my BMW E46 330i 2004 is much faster, much better driving, much better steering, much better quality, much better materials. A few clowns on BYD Atto 3 tried to race with me on the motorway, but suddenly disappeared in my rear view mirror very fast. I'm not even talking about absolutely unknown breakdowns history, dealer service quality history and ZERO selling price after the battery's warranty is finished, because nobody will ever buy a second hand EV car with a battery price equal to the price of the new car.

Byd seal awd owner in Thailand here. Currently own merc Cls, bmw e92 m3, bmw e36, merc w203 and byd seal. The interior built of the car is alot better than hoda civic. The exterior paint is very thin layer according to user in fb that already has sctached the paint. However Tesla m3 paint is not much better than seal. Have test drive both awd and long range version and have to say the long range version suspension is too soft. Feel like 2010 camry. The AWD drive is better than civic but at high speed above 150km/h the suspension is not suitable to corner at high speed. Was driving 170 km/h on expressway and the car bounce alot during high speed corner. The corner wont have much effect on w203 the same speed and the e92 m3 would able to carry this corner at 220km/h. Also have to mention that i have circuit racing experience so i know how the car react when it gets upset. But as BYD seal is my daily commute car i have no problem as 130km/h awd seal steering is extremely sharp. For city ride it is comfortable ride car. It is the same price range to toyota camry but drive better, better cost dollar per kilometer, better car camera and infotainment system, this is the car with the best bang per buck in today market.

Wondering what the front bumper clearance is like? I have a steep driveway entrance from the road for about 3 or 4 metres before it levels out almost flat instantly at a join. I don't want to scrape the under area of the front bumper at this place. I notice EV's for some strange reason don't have the hard plastic strip under the front bumper that sort of alerts you to low clearance by scraping the ground without necessarily scraping the main bumper, so any scrape in these cars means you've damaged the underside of the bumper. I'll test drive a demo to check the clearance is acceptable before I make any final purchase decision. Would the 19" wheels (premium and performance models) increase the clearance over the 18" wheels (entry level variant), or do they adjust the clearance (suspension) to be about the same with either wheels? The price of the three available Seal variants here in Australia are priced extremely competitive. One advantage of not having a local car industry anymore I guess? Looking to get the premium RWD, unless I can convince myself to go for the AWD and spend an extra 10k and have all that extra power I really don't need. 🙂 We also have a new Atto 3 (2 weeks old) and the wife loves it. I quite like it as well! Although it does have that SUV driving feels to it - as expected, I guess.

Yes, these are great concerns, so I've decided to actually make one of my missions, finding out what's going on with the rust precautions with BYD. Stay tuned, and I will find out for sure what's going on. Sticking a bit of grease on the top of a couple of bolts under the bonnet is indication, but not proof of wax oiling or metal galvanising.
@MM-mo9hn
@MM-mo9hn 8 ай бұрын
Yeah I suspect they probably bolt the car together then galvanise it. I think likely the only reason we saw the rust on that model was because it crashed and therefore air was let into the joint and then it probably sat in the rain rusting. It likely wouldn't spread. I'm not too concerned, especially since they've seen this before they built the LHD seals /dolphins so would be surprised if they didn't fix it somehow. @@TheChargeShow

Same price as Australia for the BYD seal in European markets (using the exchange rate 1AUD to 0.60EURO) will sell well so about 30k Euro or less even 25k. As the euro to bank is much more desirable than the aussie dollar

In my perspective, if BYD can sell this affordable price in Australia, then there is no way they set such a high price in Europe just to sabotage their sale and image, I think there might be something that would not let them settle the price they desire. Even New Zealand price it $10,000 more, I think it really is the local policy that restricts the BYD price

The design and specs do look great to me. Price? -- much better than expected. Look of it, the size of it --- I like it too! Real life will teach me the minuses of it! Judging by the Atto 3 reliability (34K km. on the clock) -- I am hoping for the best. The Seal is my second car from BYD that I am buying without seeing it in real life. Of course, my test drive will have to convince me finally? Didn't have one yet! Still, hoping for the best! And only Premium will do for me. Big battery = big draw card in my book. And power for spare? = good to have! Any time. VtoL is essential too! What to dislike in the package? I can't see it! Greetings Ben. Adam from Adelaide. Bye.

Same here in Hobart, I'll probably go for the premium, but want to test drive the performance. I really don't need the extra power and whilst I know the advantages of AWD - having owned 3 Subarus and a Mazda CX-7 I think I'll pass on the AWD and save 10 grand. Of course, with the power output of the performance, AWD would be pretty much mandatory. I wouldn't want to be behind the wheel of that amount of power going to just 2 wheels. I don't really think the lack of clearcoat on the underside of the bonnet is a major (or may be even minor) issue. I just checked our 2016 Polo (made in South Africa) and our 2014 Golf (made in Germany) and I'm pretty sure they haven't any clear coat on the underside of the bonnet. The white paint looks slightly shinier but doesn't appear to be coated with clearcoat. I think the black Seal is just a bit more matt under the bonnet. Perhaps they could have used a slightly glossier paint?

Ben, as a follow up to my earlier comment re real world motorway range, I'd like to add a comment about European ev's. Many of the more affordable ones are simply ICE vehicles repurposed as ev's. European ev's also sort of fall into two camps, viz: 1) very expensive and, 2) affordable but low range. As a general rule, all European ev's suffer from poor functionality electronics. If you know SAPs you'll know how German industry loves complexity and this flows into their operator interfaces. Tesla and the Chinese manufacturers eat the European systems for breakfast - though the Chinese are still finessing their products to suit European ways. The problem for BYD in Europe is price - it's too high for a start-up brand in a crowded and Eurocentric market.

Is the 400 km range you give, a highway range at 110 km/hr or is it a mixed driving range - and is it 100% to 0% state of charge? And of course, with or without a/c, dry road, 20°C. When people talk about long distance driving I think of freeway / motorway driving. In Europe this means between 110 and, mostly, 130 km/hr. Additionally if you're going to hedge against an out of service charging station you must leave around 50 km as a minimum charge buffer as chargers are about 50 to 60 km apart on motorways. I'm sure you can see the problem. If the 400 km range is an absolute max at 110 km/hr with a/c off and 20°C etc., then this quickly becomes around 300 km in real world long trip conditions.
@TheChargeShow
@TheChargeShow 8 ай бұрын
These are some great points. And I guess, people will drive according to how they are able to. If I had a long trip and I need to make it the full way with no charging, then I would go a bit slower. The difference between 100kph and 130kph roughly is about 30% more consumption, which isn't helping you if you are tight on range in the first place. So Generally when I talk about range, I'm talking about ideal conditions, but still realistic. Driving at 100-110kph, with the A/C running on a warm day. That sort of day. I know this changes so much depending on what climate you live in for example. So it's great that you point this out and get a few people thinking that read this. Thanks for the comment :)

Wind resistance is the square of speed (130x130 / 100x100) = 69% more, some of the consumption goes to the rolling resistance of tyres etc so it not quite directly proportional to speed but close. In my Model 3 at 110km/h on a flat freeway good conditions I will sit around the 125-130Wh/km mark - at 130km/h this goes to 190-195Wh/km

Isn't it amazing that we want everything AND don't want to pay for it ! Why compare it to other cars at all ? And - Would you pay an extra amount to have the underside painted ?

Didn't spray clear coat? Well, there are only two options: 1) They used direct gloss (2k clear and paint in one) or 2) They sprayed a matte clear coat.

If BYD doesnt expand as a brand the dealerships will shrink to just the CBD's....then imagine if its not convenient for you to get it serviced if they're 1hour away from you....which then voids your warranty

In Thailand BYD has now 100 dealer sales and service locations. The plan is to have 200 locations countrywide by end of next year. They are popping up everywhere Tesla showroom and service locations,,,, ONE! I have a model 3 dual motor and the Seal S 3. 8 looks to better value and service support. The Tesla supercharger network is primarily at high end shopping malls at the moment and largely centered around Bangkok. The real downside is the Tesla supercharger cost per kwh is 30-50% HIGHER than the numerous competitive charge NETWORKS which are located at the popular petrol stations. (all EVs use the same CCS plug.) BYD is growing leaps and bounds and smart as they have 4 models launched with 3 more coming so they will have numerous choices at all price points. I like my model 3 Tesla but,,,, will I be tempted to jump ship? That's a solid Maybe. 😊

I'm one of many people around the world that acknowledges just how shocking it was when in the past few years, Victoria made their own people apply to leave the country, apply to re-enter, welcomed them into the country with machine guns and the military, arrived unannounced at tower-blocks with the military to tell people that they are now locked in their homes for two weeks under guard. Stopped people driving 5k's from home, and I can't count how many people in the past few months have commented about Dictator Dan and pointing out the fact that it was one of the most locked down places on earth. The situation at the time was fairly new to all countries around the world, and they handled it with much more integrity, and didn't have a register with over 100k people listed as trying to return home. My recent trip saw lots of people clearly still terrified of it, when largely the world has moved on. This was a breach of many human rights, and in this video I simply mentioned how lovely Australia is in Victoria, but I won't move their because of this. This, and the simple fact that the politicians have shafted the young generation, so now people at 30-40 years old simple can't buy anything other than a unit for $300k. It's one of the most corrupt and shafted placed that I know in the Western world, and sadly, it is not as progressive as I first thought just several years ago. If you find peace with some of this, then it is one of the nicest places to live in Australia for someone like me. Shining a light on corruption and shifty behaviour is something that we should regard as imponderably important. So whilst I hope you may have found the video somewhat interesting, and clearly interesting enough to watch the first 12 minutes to get to the part where I mention about Australia, I also do hope you aren't upset with the comments made. The people in Victoria are incredibly lovely, and very friendly, hence why I vacation their sometimes. Best wishes and thanks for commenting and thanks even more for watching the video.

If BYD want to make a mark in UK and Europe, they need to offer a proper warranty on the battery. Brands here offer a 100,000 minimum some more. They also need to offer good finance. A lot of people like PCP deals. No use if a BYD devalues 60 to 70% in three years! As this would make them too expensive per month.

Interesting that warranties have a maximum distance in the UK. Most in Australia are 5-7 years unlimited KM (with some brands offering shorter warranty if using for Uber etc)

Most people knew BYD's expertise in making batteries. Some may not know that BYD is also among the top 10 Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) in the world, and the only one that also makes cars. It has for many years designed and manufactured products for Apple, Nvidia, Nokia, Motorola, EVGA etc. Given such industry expertise, their cars having good quality electronics should be well expected.

They changed the centre console from the piano black to a plain dark grey plastic looks really cheap, and the no clear coat under the bonnet also cheap I wonder what other corners they have cut, reminds me of a Holden Commodore or that type of vehicle I wonder is that who will be buying it?
