I have yet to shoot an M camera of any type, but I agree that the Barnacks are just sooooo smooth, and, well, satisfying to shoot. That lovely soft *snick*.

I was very disappointed with my new MP. First arrived with a very stiff ISO dial, repaired under warranty. One year later the meter stopped working, so I returned it to be told the MP would to be sent away to Germany and would be away for quite some time or I could have my money back. I got the refund.

Thanks for this feed back ... After a lot of thought, I ended up taking an M7 for efficiency and a IIIf for fun. But it’s the M10-P that remains my everyday camera. The M7's lightmeter and the A mode are game-changers. For the IIIf, my lightmeter is a wet finger in the air 😅 or at least an iPhone app

He is finding his way in Leica M world. There was great resistance to the Leica M3 when it was introduced. He is not old enough to have been there. He still Makes quite beautiful images. As they say, ‘some can; some can not’.

The MP seems like it's only especially worth it if you MUST have a meter and you don't already have a film M with that style viewfinder. My M4-2 is perfectly suitable for me (28mm frame lines are kind of redundant, that's just more or less the angle of view of the entire window) in that regard and frankly I do not think $3-4k extra is worth a meter. I also agree with the general notion that the M3 ergonomics are just not as easy to use as the M4-onwards ergonomics. I love my M3, but it does feel like an older and more antiquated piece of technology that isn't as refined for a person to use comfortably.

@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Yeah with how much you enjoy and have practice with using the barnacks and pre light meter Ms I just assumed the MP would be a rather pointless purchase past experiencing the build quality and lever feel.

If money no object, and i'd be wealthy enough - i'd choose the MP into black, because it's without the infamous red dot, which i dislike seriously, second, it does have the integrated lightmeter, vs the M-A, and last, but not least - every lame duck on YT nowadays uses the M6, and plays poseur around. 🙂 No social insecurities - just what i've seen during the past 5+ years, because these guys into their 20's haven't being grown up with film, for real. I am settled, and happy with my old 35mm rangefinders, SLRs, and digital gear. I always enjoy your videos, Matt...and especially like the fact, that you answering comments, since ages here on your channel. 🙂

I had a lovely M3, loved it but I’m convinced M film cameras are better suited to shoot 35mm… so I moved on and I now have a black MA and a Zeiss 35mm lens and I rarely shoot 50mm with it. It genuinely feels quite awkward to shoot 50mm on an MA. If you are a 50mm shooter I do think the M3 is quite complimentary so it makes a lot of sense to have 2 separate bodies and get rid of the MP

I'm also torn between the 1957 Elmar 50mm f/2.8, Voigtlander Color Skopar 50mm f/2.2, Summicron 50mm V4 and the Thypoch Eureka... Looking for a small travel 50mm that doesn't break the bank. I want it to be sharp at f/5.6 and it has to be light and easy to use. I rather dislike the idea of a non-clicked aperture ring on the Eureka. But the Color Skopar 50mm f/2.2 really seems to be a bit contrasty on film (?). What is your opinion and what would you get out of those three? I shoot film but I am planning to get a digital M in a couple years.
@dayzpast46 минут бұрын
Im currently using the LEICA ELMAR 50mm f/2.8 (1957-1974) on both the m3 and the m10m and it’s a fantastic little lens, decent sharpness wide open and when stopped down provides great sharpness across the frame. It has the infinity tab, which I enjoy, aperture is a little finicky. Very compact when retracted on the m3. Can be retracted on the m10 however I leave it out

Ken rockwells review is very accurate in my view, it’s surprisingly dense and very well built

I really don't understand why you needed another Leica M film camera or M digital for that matter? I am also not sure why Leica is insisting on passing the MP as the pinnacle of engineering? As fine a camera that the MP is, an M3 of nearly 60 years ago is just as mechanically perfect as the MP. Perhaps a more contrasty RF window or the ability to take a wide angle lenses natively are the bonus points, but for me the M3 and the M2 are still the king. PS: In the old times the original Leitz which was a family business manufcatured cameras like the M2 and the M3 knowing that they would probably end up being used by war correspondents, photo Journalist, even fashion photographers on the go and these people seriously punished the camera and the lens. That is why these were made of top quality brass & steel. These days Leica is owned by a Venture company and something else, and Leica cameras are mostly manufactured as fashion and statement cameras, I am sad to say. Even the modern Leica lenses that cost several thousand pounds are no where near as well built as the something like a Summicron Rigid or Summicron DR of over 50 years ago. So, cherish your old Leitz cameras.

Reason No6 Matt I think that black circular dot on the front (is it the battery port) is just ugly, it spoils the front design of the camera, perhaps if they had recessed the circle so it matched the red dot on your M4-P ie being flat would have been more in keeping with the design.
