G-VBIG took us on our honeymoon in August last year. We were about the only people in the Premium Economy cabin - it will be a flight neither me or my wife will ever forget. Gutted to see G-VBIG’s fate - we’ll miss her!

I flew on this great aircraft returing from Montego Bay Jamaica to London Gatwick. Sad to hear she has been retired and equally sad that the remainder of the Virgin 747 flleet have been recently retired too. They will be greatly missed.

Bye bye GVBIG. Still got my diecast and will treasure it. Be sad seeing all airlines retire 747

Will surely miss them but we will see them for some years to come.

@@23LAVIATION Exactly they still got about 7 or 8 left in their fleet to be retired by 2021. BA & Lufthansa still have theirs fly to middle next decade

What a beauty! Super lucky to have got a flight instrument used in the cockpit of this aircraft and a piece of the fuselage! Nice to own it but such a shame this beautiful bird is no longer in the skies

I flew on this 747 from Manchester to New York's JFK airport in June 2019, it was the first 747 I'd ever been on and I couldn't get over the sheer size of it. I can remember seeing the reg (G-VBIG) and thinking to myself, yeah that is very big 😂😂 Sad to see it scrapped. 😪😪

@@23LAVIATION I'd always wanted to fly on a 747, it took many years of being alive to get there. Tinkerbell was my first ! I actually felt genuinely sad to hear of her demise.

Virgin Atlantic is replacing them with the A350 so eventually they they are all being retired.

I read an article, which was supposed to show how she had already had her wings 'clipped, but the video had been "removed by the uploader". I immediately began searching recent videos of this great ship.

Safety first for sure

It’s not about safety, these old birds still have many years of flying in them yet. It’s about efficiency... unfortunately 4-engine aircraft like 747’s and A340’s are not fuel-efficient enough for Virgin Atlantic nowadays. Hence why they are replacing them with 787’s and A350-1000’s.

Privileged to fly twice on her back in the late 90's ...so sad they are almost all gone now
