@@byOldHand Thanks, Mate - I will! I can't tell you how much I enjoyed that video. Just three ckeeky questions, however. First, I noticed you went for a hollow-ground finish on your chisel: in you experience, does that give a finer paring cut than a flat-ground one? Second, is there any chance - at some time in the future - of your giving us some of the 'ingredients' in your 'recipe' - like a KZbin cook? It'd be REALLY useful for us restoration beginners to know (eg) what type of lapping paste you use, wheel and paper grits-sizes, adhesive (I assume two-part epoxy - to which I am VERY allergic, alas) etc? Last, what was that bluish oilstone (?) you used after your 1000 diamond stone? I was really impressed how _gentle_ you were in achieving such a marvelously sharp edge! Love to your beautiful cats, too❤!

@@marvinc9994 If I am not going to hit the chisel with a mallet, I prefer concave sharpening. Definitely the sharpness and sharpening ability are higher. I will also shoot a real-time sharpening video very soon. I hope it helps. I wish you a wonderful week.

I love the total process you use to make old things "new" again and you do it without taking any of the character of the piece away. Just lovely work. I have recently inherited a case full of my father's excellent quality chisels and gouges, plus a radius plane with interchangeable blades that he made himself as an apprentice industrial pattern maker in England in the early 1940's. He never touched them after he retired at sixty-five, and he was ninety-seven when he died so they have seen many years of neglect. I only hope that I can do half as good a job of restoring them to working condition as you have managed to do with this piece. You have my sincere admiration.

My dear Old Hand, what a wonderful rescue of a hard worked old chisel from my own homeland. I have several Marples chisels from my cabinet maker’s apprenticeship in the mid 80’s but they are all polycarbonate (please don't judge me) and being a young man I had no interest in old fashioned tools despite being told how much better the steel was, but I now understand that a young mans ignorance is an old mans regret… I love the passion and respect that you show all of these older items and the fact that you will only ever replace that which cannot be saved. May I be rude and ask what the lovely looking amber liquid in the small glass was? You are going to have no hair left on your hands pretty soon. I do love that you take so much time on the old well used and loved tools. It reminds me of my father and grandfather’s tools which as a female I still held onto until I gave them to a extended family member who would appreciate them. Just because something is old doesn’t mean it has no value. Although still after 44 years of marriage I can’t get my husband to agree with me. However he still has hunting clothes he has had since he was in his 20’s (we both are in our 70’s). Go figure.
