It's funny how tools take AGES to bring them to their best... even quite expensive ones, sometimes, or so it seems. I have a plain, vanilla Stanley #4. It's the cheap one, with plastic parts and no fore/aft screw for the frog. It cut OK out the box, but since then I’ve spent hours flattening the sole and so on. Chap’s got to have a hobby, I suppose! 😊

Good job dear friend. I like every kind of workmanship

Very satisfying to watch! One thing I wondered, is what the purplish liquid is, that you poured over the polished brass parts. Had already seen this in other videos of yours and would be greatful for the opportunity to learn this from you!

I think half the fun of all this malarchy is hunting down old tools. Eyve got some of my granpop’s as well as other old geezers long gone and it nice to feel a Link wiv The Past. Especially as soon we all going to be Eggs Stinked, innit 😮 Eym profoundly astonished by the fact that screws, nails - and files ect come to that… orl used to be made by hand, individually. One at a time. Crikey

I got the cheap one of that, innit… plastic adjuster wheel & ‘andles, no frog fore/aft screw. It's in daily use for decades now but: I had to spend HOURS to get it just so and fine-tune it., for example the sole plate was quite wavey! The most surprising thing to me was how soft the cast-iron parts are, compared with harder steels. 😮

I like the way you do the restoration work but I don’t like when you apply the rust ,removal or lubricant que iCal to parts and don’t use a container to save all the extra you apply,it just go to the cardboard. Thank you for the good restoration videos.
