This breakdown is on Byron Jones who set the record in the Broad Jump at the NFL Combine. He is a great example of an excellent jumper which is why we will go into his Vertical Jump as well. Let us know your thoughts and keep the recommendations coming!

Hey I know this is irrelevant to this video but I asked a question on the Christopher Taylor video that I really want answered by someone with your expertise . But so how do I work on getting a better vertical kind of stride/shin angle and what kind of posture should I look to keep at 5’9 . I see a lot of forwards lean guys and a lot of straight up and I just can’t seem to find which is the best for me . And how do I keep this turnover consistent and fluid especially while keeping good turnover rate .

@Performancelabofcalifornia 6 жыл бұрын
So the way to test spine angle would be to do squats and feel how your spine wants to move as you are going through a squat. If you want to lean forward a lot then a forward lean would be more beneficial or if your spine can maintain a more upright position then stick with that. Turnover rate has everything to do with stability of the hip and strength within the ankle. With all that being said, you should be able to get a better shin angle as you figure out what your spine angle should be. Once you get that the rest should come easier..

Hey Morey, supposedly Maurice Greene had a counter movement (vertical jump) of just 28 inches. How is it that someone who held the world 60m record for so many years was not more explosive than that in a VJ?
@Performancelabofcalifornia
@Performancelabofcalifornia 6 жыл бұрын
Excellent, excellent question. In my opinion, hip extension is not one of Maurice Greene's strengths it is more hip flexion in combination with a pretty abnormal height to weight ratio. (Large lower body makes it more difficult to overcome gravity).

I thought that hip extension power is inherent to all world class sprinters? Do you know what Maurice Greene’s weight was when he set the 60m world record?
@Performancelabofcalifornia
@Performancelabofcalifornia 6 жыл бұрын
gothops well he doesn’t not have hip extension he definitely does. But when you see him run his knee drive really stands out. I do not know his weight but you can see when beating the record his disproportion..

Does he flick his hamstrings to generate the power?
@Performancelabofcalifornia

He extends with hips/lower back as well as through the ankles and feet.

@@Performancelabofcalifornia is this extension the same as a hamstring flick? I ask this because the hamstring flick is a fast twitch activity and it seems to me that flicking the hamstring is how you can generate the required power for sprinting or jumping.
@Performancelabofcalifornia

Expeditioner I am a bit confused on what you mean with hamstring flick though? Do you mean how the hamstring is contracting or how the foot is leaving the ground?

Expeditioner got it. So the hamstring flick to me would be when the foot is cycling through to ground contact

That's interesting because Matthew Boling 100 meter time is 9.98, yet when he did jumped over 30 red solo cups his broad jump was 9ft.
