It is a stunning reminder of the fact that the soldiers and nurses of the WWI were youths of the same age as these skilled musicians performing here, many of the soldiers aspiring artists that were never to see the future. Ravel made two commisioned left hand piano pieces for a concert pianist who lost the use of his right arm in the same war....As a boy I was a neighbour to a soldier who was gassed in the war and I will never forget his screaming when he was haunted by memories...

This masterpiece shows humanity with its ups and downs until the moment of violent erruption and as a proof, all the leaders standing there thinking about the things are about to come back to Europe on 24 February 2021. SAD!

Greeting from China! Bolero is always one of my favorite music (and also my dad's). Love the standup part at the end! Bolero is just so suitable to play tricks with. Still remember around 2013 I saw the HK Sinfonietta playing it in a reverse way of Haydn's Farewell: started with no conductor, each instrument joined when necessary, and ended up in a grand ensemble.

This woman I know from France told me today of this song being played at the ceremony and how beautiful and yet sad at the same time. So I came here to watch the video and she was right, very touching moment. My Uncle died in WWII in France at the battle of Saint-Lo fighting through the hedgerows

I listened to this the day it was performed, & remembering how excellent the performance was, I just had to come back and listen again. Beautiful flute solo, but please. As wandering as the camera was, you think it might have found some of the other instruments playing solos as well. Still, so damn beautiful. Youth orchestra. And then the bored man with the pretend hair - likely first time in his life he'd been forced to sit through an entire piece of classical music...

Youth Orchestra or not, I noticed the entire cello section playing on rented cellos: I wouldn't take my symphonic cello out in the moist air either; the glue on stringed instruments is made to loosen with moisture to make it easier to repair, hide glue, and most professionals have 1 great instrument for indoors, and one not-so-great one for out of doors. Just FYI.) What would HISTORY be without MUSIC that reflects it? Forgotten. Most music has a reason to be composed if it has any redeeming quality at all. It is excellent to see our youth performing the Masters, rather than running the streets with useless political goals.

Merci. Ravel, qui était chauffeur pour l'armee dans la grande guerre. Le tambour dans le Bolero est peut-être aussi un symbole pour les coups de feu de la grande guerre. Soudain, c'est arrête.

The "armistice" celebration- beautiful music but not really the piece I would have chosen for the occasion! You will delete this as "political" yet this occasion was intensely political! Ive loved this piece since the first time I heard it, many years ago..... hate to see it used in such a politicised manner. I wonder how the Germans felt about it? The young musicians did a wonderful job, especially considering the rain and high humidity- this is as good a performance as many done by more experienced musicians in concert halls.
