Update: I found another method to build the Shoji screens. I was testing around with the jail walls, and found if you build the jail doorway, and then remove the foundation from underneath to float it, and replace it to a solid jail wall then break it. you can freehand another solid jail wall in about 3/4. That's just far enough to pull off the shoji look, and you can replace to doorways or windows on both parts. This also uses .2% less budget per side.

Would you mind posting a vid showing this second method? I tried the above but when I get to the step where I build the second wall it wont let me place it.

I'd love to see the Shoji alternative method too! I'd also like to ask that you might answer a question for me about the first method for the Shoji screens: When you move the foundation, what happens if it's a little crooked? Won't your floor and future walls be crooked? how can you manage lining this all up when you're doing a whole room of them?
@StoleYaSweetroll3 жыл бұрын
@@TangoKittyOmicron indeed, to that I would say move them carefully. A simple method would be, when you're free handing foundation alignment be sure to move them with only the left stick that way you're not introducing rotation into the mix as is the case when using the right stick, and snap to the floor you used for the first offset.

I love this tutorial, also even though you didn’t mention it as soon as you used the welcome mat for the table mat I was like “Ooooohhh, brooo! That’s such a good idea!” How had I never thought of that…

I'm a fairly good camp builder but I have never done a foundation merge unless I used a flamer. This gives me another trick for my toolbox and I LOVE the walls! I've been dying to build some of the houses out of the Ghibli movies, my youngest wants me to build the house out of Totoro. Subscribed. Thank you very much that tutorial.

Fantastic stuff, I love minimalist Japanese aesthetic and would love to make a small ronin cabin somewhere in the wasteland. I was wondering - with your low table seating could you merge a stool down through a small rectangular rug and then move it freely (thereby avoiding the foundation merge and allowing for it to be placed on terrain)?
@eoinc95112 жыл бұрын
I’ve wanted to put meditation cushions at various bases and haven’t found a method, so I thought perhaps this might work?
@StoleYaSweetroll2 жыл бұрын
If you place the stool on the rug first, and merge down into the rug the only place you can put the rug down will be places that the stool won't have Collison, so that would be mesh upper floors, and soil. However if you place the rug atop the stool, and drop merge the rug down below the seat level you can move the stool to a foundation, and merge the stool, and rug down into the foundation.

@@StoleYaSweetroll thank you so much for your swift and informative answer!!! 👍👍👍 I’m making a top floor meditation room, so I’ll use the mesh floors, drop the seat and then replace the mesh floors! Perfect

After spending like 45 minutes just erecting one single wall that looked half decent I realise I don't have the skill, effort or forward planning for this, neither do I have the atom shop items or the amount of scrap needed to play around with this stuff. Such a shame because I've wanted a Japanese Pagoda/dojo base since I started the game and I really like the look of these things.
@StoleYaSweetroll3 жыл бұрын
It's ok. Just keep practicing, and one day you'll get there. These builds don't go up in 5 minutes for me either. It takes time.

I love the idea but I can't justify using that many wall pieces for just one tile because I need my budget to decorate accordingly. Making an amazing building is always fun but if it's empty or lacking in décor, that just kills it for me
@StoleYaSweetroll2 жыл бұрын
The key lies in how the idea is used, check out my Tudor wall tutorial for a method that uses one fewer wall per side. The idea for the Shoji walls isn't to build an entire camp with them, but to use them as a garnish. It's totally possible to incorporate these walls (sparingly), and fully furnish a camp.

Haven't quite figured that out, as so far I've only been able to merge in half walls with the full frames. I'll update if I find a method to do this. As for what I did on the camp where the glass is. I sandwiched the glass wall between the font and back shoji panels. I'm on Playstation.

Promised I'd circle back on this question if I found out anything new, well I was testing around with the jail walls, and found if you build the jail doorway, and then remove the foundation from underneath to float it, then you can replace it to a solid jail wall and break it. It can be frustrating. With the walls layered up, it's easy to accidentally apply the paper to the outer layer when you're intending to apply it to the inner layer. If this is the issue you're running into, you can replace the outer wall to a doorway to have access to the inner layer and apply the paper that way.
