I thank you so much, and I honor you for your efforts to impart knowledge of the Lao language and the cuisine to your granddaughter. She is so adorable, BTW. I especially enjoy having these videos in mostly Lao language so that I might refresh my understanding. Many of the friends of my wife were Isan, so this is the language they spoke. Though my wife (Khon Lanna) and I spoke standard Thai at home, I delighted in hearing and coming to understand the beautiful Lao language.

This is really different from the Mieng Muang Luang I grew up making and eating with my family. We always steamed the sticky rice, dried it out and then fried it out ourselves. Never used food processor (the heat from the motor will make it taste a little bitter and over grind the crispy rice flour). And we never used that much padek, not even close. We also never cook with meat. After boiling the aromatics, we just go ahead and pour the fried sticky rice flour mixture into the pot and continue to cook it until it forms the thick paste and stays crispy, less to wash than to transfer into the motor, only to transfer it back to the pan/pot, don't you think? This is different and worth giving a shot, thank you Nana! :)

Thank you. I am new to your channel and have share and recommended it to friends who appreciate SE Asian cuisines. In the English language "Nana" is a word used to refer to one's grandmother. So, my assumption was that she was your granddaughter. "Cooking with Nana" led me to believe that the little sweetheart was cooking with her grandmother. As far as whether you look that old; let me tell you; Asian women age quite gracefully.

@kimm0910, Thanks for watching. I forgot to mention about the color of the rice patties. I got the patties from two different vendors. Some like to fry darker. I hope to make a video showing how to make the rice patties yourself later.

Can you make a video on how to make fresh spring rolls the laos way? Using the pork and pork skin :)
@ilovejordanbryant11 жыл бұрын
I want to try to make this but I'm so scared it won't come out good
Ton nee; gra phom ja poot pasah Thai na krap. Koh toht na krab. Mai chai yang nun. Dtae laew; Phom yang dee jai mhak tee hen khun sohn look sao poot pasah Lao lae rien tom gap kao bab Lao style na krab. If I have offended, please forgive me. I have so much appreciated your videos.
"Laos" (with an S) is the name of the country, which means the word itself is a noun and should never be used as an adjective. The correct word to use as an adjective is "Lao" (without an S). Therefore, you should be asking how to make fresh spring rolls the Lao way. Saying the "Laos way" (incorrect) would be like saying the "America way" (incorrect) instead of the "American way" (correct). Most of the time, "Lao" should be used except only when referring to the country's name, which is "Laos".

It's called a Lao veggie salad, because "Lao" is an adjective, whereas "Laos" (the country) is a noun. You should never say "Laos" veggie salad because that would be like saying "China" veggie salad instead of "Chinese" veggie salad. The correct adjectives are "Lao" and "Chinese", not "Laos" (noun) and "China" (noun).
